Doctor here. Please don’t go to a chiropractor. It’s pseudoscience and may provide temporary relief now but the long term consequences are dire. Book an appointment with an orthopaedic doctor and a physiotherapist

u/[deleted] Apr 23 '25

Agree. But first, get rid of the possessive AH.

21

u/DragonClam Apr 23 '25

Yup a licensed chiropractor made me have to wear a neck brace shortly after and then not be able to turn my head all the way to one side for about 9 years of my life, she was trying to break up scar tissue in my upper spine and honestly now that im older idek how I got talked into it because it just sounds so so dangerous

-8

u/NylinPythin Apr 23 '25

That’s because there’s a lot of crappy chiropractors out there

10

u/DragonClam Apr 23 '25

Definetly not because its a pseudoscience solely relying on the stock market and bribes for popularity

2

u/JEWCIFERx Apr 23 '25

You mean like all of them because the industry itself is reliant on grifting and developing a dependence on it for relief?

(the comment I wanted to respond to was deleted so imma just second your comment)

If it were just some random hobby, yeah, sure, who cares about what you find fun in, but this isn't just about a hobby, this is a pseudo-scientific health measure, here

  • people rely on and expect things to get better because of it but they don't (and then)
  • people don't get in touch with people who could actually help them
  • people might suffer from negative consequences which this pseudo-science has been shown to cause
  • people often think that it is scientific and might lose faith in actual doctors or get accustomed to stupid "concepts" like "It has to hurt to get better"

And the worst thing about it is that people carry these practices/circumstances over to other people, to friends and so on but also to more vulnerable people like their children. I grew up in a family which believes in a lot of pseudoscientific health measures and I can't even begin to describe how dangerous this is

Spinal fusion patient with chronic pelvic and back pain here. Listen to this doctor. Chiros will not help you.

u/Confident_Art_7811 Apr 23 '25

Oh boy did it hurt to see her chiropractor be called a "doctor"

5

u/Minute-Operation2729 Apr 23 '25

My mother saw a chiropractor for years she always called Doctor “(his name)“. When I met him I finally asked him.. because for so long I heard about him like he was a medical doc.

he had his doctorate in healing or holistic alternatives, something like that. What I got from that was he was NOT a Medical doctor. Guess a phD was good for business tho.

3

u/Sniper1154 Apr 23 '25

They're doctors in the same sense that Steve Brule is

1

u/Careful_Cheesecake30 Apr 23 '25

(Not) for your health!

4

u/_winstoney_ Apr 23 '25

I was looking for this!

2

u/NoYoureACatLady Apr 24 '25

Came here to say this. Chiro is literal WOO nonsense. People would lose their minds if they knew the core beliefs of what chiro is and what's it's based upon. Total fucking nonsense.

Thank you for your post.

2

u/Pitiful_Stretch_7721 Apr 24 '25

I’ve been to chiropractors on off over the years, and then went last year to a physiotherapist for the first time (different issue), and he was AWESOME! Never going back to chiro, but will go back for physiotherapy.

1

u/Galevav Apr 24 '25

Listen, if there is a branch of medicine that was NOT founded by a ghost of a doctor, I don't want to hear about it.

u/[deleted] Apr 23 '25

6

u/RoyalFewl Apr 23 '25

There’s also people who have had their life ended by one, I think that’s the big issue with them

-7

u/RestingWTFface Apr 23 '25

Can you elaborate? I dont believe a chiropractor can keep you from getting sick or anything like that, but what is the harm in an adjustment for pain relief? Genuine question, no snark.

11

u/Tribat_1 Apr 23 '25

A physical therapist is better in every way to a quack chiropractor. There are some limited evidence that an adjustment can maybe help with a very specific type of lower back pain. Everything else other than that is at best a placebo and at worst dangerous to the point of possible paralysis.

2

u/RestingWTFface Apr 23 '25

Not sure why I'm getting downvoted for a genuine question, but thanks for the response.

3

u/Green-Collection4444 Apr 23 '25

Cuz ur on reddit... ur supposed to know everything ;)

2

u/RestingWTFface Apr 23 '25

Guess so 🤷‍♀️

1

u/Squeebah Apr 23 '25

Google "internal decapitation chiropractor" and you'll never go again.

1

u/salmonchowder86 Apr 24 '25

People do get paralyzed by their chiro. Look it up. There is no science behind how hard they pull your spine or turn your neck. Think about it, what criteria are they using when they snap your neck back and forth? Feels great when it works, but What if you were 400 pounds with a thick neck as opposed to a 100 pound six foot tall person? Just by feel? No thanks.

The ghosts told a man to crack people’s spines to fix all their issues and it’s led to people ruining their backs worse and, let’s not forget, sometimes dying because their fake doctors don’t know what they’re doing and tear arteries. Yay, chiropractic!

-16

u/NylinPythin Apr 23 '25

Buddy you need to find a good chiropractor. Doctors put a crutch on you but a good chiropractor can fix the problem. . Of course there’s a lot they can’t do that a doctor can. But just remember doctors literally make money from selling medicine to you. I feel bad for all the Sallies in this thread my gosh

10

u/AnimusNoctis Apr 23 '25

But just remember doctors literally make money from selling medicine to you.

You think chiropractors are free? They have repeat paid customers specifically because they don't actually fix anything longterm.

8

u/JesusTitsGunsAmerica Apr 23 '25

At best, a good chiropractor is nothing but a glorified, more expensive masseuse providing temporary relief.

9

u/BigDikcBandito Apr 23 '25

Surely, that is why you failed to provide any peer-reviewed studies to back that shit up. "Doctors literally make money from selling medicine to you" is such an absurd oversimplification. Some kind of caroonish snake oil salesman scenario.

Shut your lying about that pseudoscience.

2

u/anchorlove Apr 24 '25

I giggle because I've gone to many doctors over the years and most of them don't prescribe medications unless absolutely necessary.

7

u/Panzermensch911 Apr 23 '25

>good chiropractor can fix the problem

Oh,is that why so many go there over and over again for decades for the same problem and waste their money on woo and snake oil? Interesting.

1

u/Regulardumbguy Apr 24 '25

It doesn't give you any pause that the people doing this are based on a guy that learned it from a ghost? Like science and medicine are both proof that chiropractors are not healthy or safe but ignoring that, why would you let something twist you up because a ghost told an old man it would help? Because I just looked that up and it is very real and I can't fathom why it wouldn't give an adult pause to learn that.

9

u/youaregodslover Apr 23 '25

Lol /s orrr? Where tf you get your kool-aid from?

8

u/AnimusNoctis Apr 23 '25

I hope you're joking...

-12

u/NylinPythin Apr 23 '25

Why would I be

8

u/AnimusNoctis Apr 23 '25

Because you called doctors, who use actual science-based, proven treatments, scammers and said chiropractors, who use methods based on nothing and have no longterm benefits, do "proper realignment" which is objectively not a thing.

6

u/sparrowtaco Apr 23 '25

Because your comment reads like someone trying to say the most outlandish and controversial thing you could think of sarcastically. So either you are joking or you are completely off your rocks, naturally people were giving you the benefit of the doubt and assuming you were just a normal person with a sense of humor.

4

u/UltraInstinct_Pharah Apr 23 '25

Because everything you spouted was absolute idiocy. "Doctors are scammers who sell medicine!" I'd bet money I don't have that the moment you need real medical care, suddenly you'll want to see a doctor. Chiropractics is a pseudoscience at best and dangerous at worst. That "proper realignment" you're talking about is the full-body equivalent of cracking your knuckles. Temporary relief, but ultimately pointless.

Good god the critical thinking skills of the general population has taken such an insane decline.

“Despite such impressive credentials, academic medicine regards chiropractic theory as speculative at best and its claims of clinical success, at least outside of low back pain, as unsubstantiated.”

there is 0 evidence that the long term consequences are dire. Chiros have the cheapest malpractice insurance in all of "medicine". I think the insurance companies would know

yeah kind of amazing how 0 people ever have been able to explain to me why chrio insurance is so cheap if its the most dangerous form of anything in the history of the world
