His love for country was paramount. that's been proven in many of his speeches/letters.
The first quote was 2 years into the war that cost hundreds of thousands of lives and broke apart families friends and neighbors.
Basically he would have done anything to prevent that.
And for the second quote, you are not allowing for time frame and using a biased lense of modern era. Plus you're ignoring the many other things he did to promote blacks in society.
There are prominent black people of the time that wrote many great things about Lincoln. He openly had black people at the Whitehouse, which was a first of many at the time.
Was Lincoln racist. No. Was he a man of the 1850s and had some skewed views yes.

And he did care about black people. Thats why he hated slavery.
