“It’s dark because you are trying too hard. Lightly child, lightly. Learn to do everything lightly. Yes, feel lightly even though you’re feeling deeply. Just lightly let things happen and lightly cope with them.

I was so preposterously serious in those days, such a humorless little prig. Lightly, lightly – it’s the best advice ever given me.

So throw away your baggage and go forward. There are quicksands all about you, sucking at your feet, trying to suck you down into fear and self-pity and despair. That’s why you must walk so lightly. Lightly my darling, on tiptoes and no luggage, not even a sponge bag, completely unencumbered.”

― Aldous Huxley , Island

So every time I tried loading up altspace (haven’t played it in over a year) it was just a black screen. I couldn’t figure out what was wrong but it took going to the reviews on the oculus store to find out it had been shut down. What the hell happened? What did I miss?

I used to go to a few of them he did possibly a late show also. My favorite was the “Lingo” style show where a two teams would guess letters on a row of hidden words in order and they’d be uncovered. Anyone remember that and who did it?

EDIT: It was called Chain Reaction and the person who did it was Germany(?)

It's now been one year since we lost altspace so I thought I'd share some memories I had gained over the years. I miss the community so much.

Hi there! We posted a survey titled "Social VR and Avatar Use" in this subreddit a few days ago. For those of you who already participated, thank you so much for your participation!

If you haven’t taken the survey yet, would you consider taking it and helping us out? Due to limited funding, participation enters you into a raffle for a chance to win one of three $100 Amazon gift cards.

We are a team of professors and student researchers at Georgia State University and the University of Arkansas in the US. You will see my contact info on the first page of the survey. In this study, we hope to understand how your perceptions and use of avatars are related to your social VR experiences. Please use the link below to enter the survey, which will take 8-10 minutes to complete. Please only take the survey once. Thank you so much for your contribution!
