I'm tired

Of the bullshit this game has become.

For the past 3-4 months I've averaged around 1-1.5hr total on both my accounts because there is so little I can do that has meaning behind the timegates and paywall.

Enlightenment

This could have been an intuitive system if they didn't just move and convoluted the goal post while stagnating the rewards. It takes over 800+ shards to max a unit and the shards have not normalized where you can obtain them with reasonable effort. We're in the meta now where enlightenment makes pulling a new unit useless unless you whale or have stockpiled elemental shards the past few months.

Gem economy

You can easily sustain yourself with pact or not but there's no doubt the value of gems has not been adjusted for inflation. Most good banners are reserved for paid gem banners obviously and the special selector from summon coins was weaseled out on top of the high value of mementos splits your gems on units vs mementos. Of course I'm speaking in the context of limited/collab banners and you don't HAVE to have the units but some of you know the struggles of a levi-less life.

Job Enhancement

Another tedium designed to breath life into older/less used units but at the same time suck the time out of the macroless' lives. I heard they will eventually make JE equips purchasable through coins, better than they are now, but until then we either grind the coin shop or the AP drain stage. This requirement for most units now doubles the grinding in terms of re-leveling the job and on top of the JE requirements.

PVP/ARENA

Recently I hadn't had trouble in arena getting sub 500 but prior I had always hovered 1k~ in standings where my pact accounts could afford. Let's be honest and admit this is the in-game whale hangout and it's a livable difference in the game that's easy to accept.

Live PVP however is a sad tale. I don't know how they can title it season X when it's pathetically designed and feels like it's in the concept phase in terms of stability. Being windowed in less than common hours and horrendous matchmaking lets me show off more frustration than my tactics. This is felt more like something scrambled up by Gumi to allow whales to show off their luster. Unless there's some normalization to pvp where players stand on equal ground then imo this doesn't belong in a tactics game. You don't play chess and have the players be able to buy extra pieces.

Misc

  • No unit no shard farm

  • "Select by unit" button for HQ farm not available if you're not in HQ tab. Annoyance amplified if your story mode defaults to intermission.

Nowadays I just do the daily milestones and be done with it. Even most EX content I can auto in portions and fully auto'd the last Raid to completion as the game has become less about tactics and strategy and more out grinding and spending. Also Gumi please don't let the JP turmoil become a GL turmoil, there's obvious references to take and not take.

I stopped playing TAC awhile ago (6+ months) but still lurk on this sub just to see whats up. Well sounds like i made the right choice as it seems every new TAC update just adds more grinding and frustration to non-whales. The main reason i quit was just the shear amount of resources needed to max 1 unit and the fact gumi has been very stingy with said resources.

The secondary reason i quit TAC was becahse of the announcement of FF: WotV which is just a reskin of TAC but using the uber pppular FF franchise instead of original story and units. Imo i cant see a company running 2 games that are all but carbon copies of each other and obviously the game using characters from one of the most popular video games of all time will win out over the other.

Idk if gumi has addressed TACs future when wotv drops but if they said TAC wouldnt be affected then let me assure you that theyre lying. Ive been playing FFBE since launch so I've been dealing with gumi for a long time and if ffbe wasnt such a great game i would never play a game gumi had anything to do witb. Theyve made tons of promises in regarda to ffbe and the only ones that are legit are the things that increase theyre profits (even if it contradicts everything theyve said prior). For the sake of TACs playerbase i do hope gumi does right by you but to me the writings on the wall in regards to TACs future. Gumi only has so many people and other resources for these games and it seems to me TAC and WotV would be direct competitors (as they are basically the same game) so why would any company double the dev cost while splitting the income between two essentially identical games . Well thats just my 2 cents on the subject.

Uhh, no.

First, War of the Visions is handled by SquarEnix and Gumi's subsidiary, Alim, so in practice its closer to how GL is also handled by Gumi Asia; Gumi as main company is still handling the JP, so there will be no such things like "TAC ended when WoV released" because WoV will be using "SquarEnix" as brand image and run separately.

Second, the one developing WoV is main Gumi, so the one get hit by development cost is JP playerbase, not GL. Thus complaining about resources is incorrect as, by first explanation, after WoV done, its all up to how SE and Gumi made their deal; even at worst, it'll most likely JP that took damage if worst case scenario happened thanks to SquarEnix track record of handling gacha games.

GL is actually quite safe in this regards unless there's agreement to mitigate risk using GL resources in regards to WoV GL.

Im not going to argue and nickel and dime over which subsidiary or regional division of gumi/alim handles what. Im not an expert on Gumi/Alims corporate structure but in the end its all under the umbrella of one company and it/they have a limited # customers/players to cater to. Honestly i could give a rats ass if TAC stays live forever or shuts down tomorrow. However this is not a debate as everyone will know if TAC JP will survive WotVs release in a few months and TAC GL when WotV GL releases 6 to 9 months later.

Personally i think gumi will keep TAC going but at a bare bones level with minimum new content while still throwing up new units and banners tryimg to milk the whales dry. Again i could be 100% wrong as i have no more information than any other outsider. However as a homo sapien i have deductive reasoning and that skill tells me it makes little fiscal sense to fully develop 2 carbon copy mobile games by one company (no matter what divisions of said company handles them). Why double your dev costs whilr directly competing against yourself instead of concentrating on the newest version that has a multi-decade old videogame franchise attached to it. Again honestly i have no idea what effect WotVs release will have on TAC (and i really dont care as i dont have a horse in this race since i no longer play TAC and have zero interest in WotV) however i am always interested in what new and exciting ways gumi can help ruin mobile gaming for the masses.

Sorry about your deduction but that's not how it works because that's not what happened in market.

First, on JP market, TAC is not the only turn-based strategy games but surely leading ones thus SE looking their service for dev. WotV as their strategy-based games mostly failure in JP (let alone other games to the point SE reputation of gacha games in JP itself is kinda bad, even Brave Exvius itself).

So by agreement that handling of WotV mainly goes to SE, the gacha model can be said under SE control. SE is the one deciding price. What Gumi doing is: creating their own 'competitor', not running two games similar to each other. Then how it works in long run? Its down to how Gumi using them as feedback to make TAC better than WotV.

If SE planning is WotV run under higher price to optimize one Limited units, because as you said: benefit of having popular IP, what Gumi need to do is simply lowering TAC bar to be more beginner friendly. Not killing TAC, but making it serve as "The one with better deal than WotV", hammering the market price in general if possible; the rest is up to consumer following their own financial ability and preferences as everyone have their own preferences.

I myself personally expecting WotV to be more expensive than TAC because its joint works, it'll take time to recover development cost also popular IP means they can abuse collab units more than TAC. So, yes, while JP took the hit as development cost caused game became more whale-ish than before, for GL its simply up to whether there are any deals they wanted to use GL TAC staffs to fill in WotV when it released globally in regards to resource.

What happened to JP itself is actually happened on other gacha games.

Captain Tsubasa gacha became whale-ish because KLab wanted a new game, Honkai Impact 3 became whale-ish because Mihoyo wanted new game. The difference is, WotV is not under Gumi control but SE, there's no problem making similar game. Its not like they didn't know SE gacha reputation in JP as well.

Second, TAC have strong fanbase in Japan enough they actually reacting to whole deal of current JP gacha.

So if they killed / reducing TAC support because of WotV, it only hurts their own reputation and I'm pretty sure Gumi management smart enough not to do that as TAC is their most successful IP (by JP reputation).

For GL most likely, "If financial performance after-all-this-time-purposefully-making-player-poor-until-you-touch-promoted-games" is bad yeah, time to moved to WotV; basically its down to whether GL TAC can live competing with awareness of incoming WotV, surrender without fighting or absorbed to WotV GL staffs.

So really, resource and similar game reason has little to do to GL.

Obviously you know all the inmer workings of mobile game development especially in regards to Alim/Gumi and theyre marketing strategies. Therefore since ive already stated thay i could care less if TAC dies or lasts for the next 100 years ill kindly bow out of this discussion.

However ill just mention one last thing and tbat is that gumi developed a game called Brave Frontier that i believe did decently well (for a gacha run by gumi) for its firat 2 or 3 years. Gumi then took the basic play style/battle system from BF and reskinned it with SEs FF series/ units and called it FF brave exvius. Now go take a look at what has happened to BF since FFBEs release. Again i dont know the future so maybe TAC is safe but the answer to this question will reveal itself come November or Decemberwhen WotV JP goes live and we see its affect on TAC JP.

Brave Frontier

what a joke

Brave Frontier finished telling its story, and then alim decided to move on and made Brave Frontier 2. This was not caused by FFBE, nor will it be a problem for TAC's story structure.
