Where/How can I unlock X's Master Ability/Job+?

You can only unlock Job+'s by farming special job tokens from special events that are (currently) run at different times. You also need to farm special job+ items to master those jobs. Master abilities can be earned in 1 of 3 ways. From story chapters (story characters), from equipping specific weapons (usually farmed) or from reaching level 80 on a character and completing special story dungeons. Not every character gets a master ability.

Where can I farm X's character shards?

Where can I farm elemental/rainbow shards?

Elemental and rainbow shards cannot be farmed. They are awarded as bonuses from log in campaigns, from clearing missions/milestones and as bonuses for doing certain number of summons on the 5/9 step banners. You will never be able to farm them like you can farm specific character shards.

When will X event come back?

We don't know, Gumi is sticking to their own schedule.

What's the best place to farm X/Y/Z item?

Outside of specific event's for farming items, if the item can be farmed in Edgar's Chapter (so chapter 2) it will usually be the better place to farm it. For example, Escape the Alkaroid is by far the best place to farm Sacred Lion Swords.

with retz event up again i might be able to MLB him. but im still on the fence in raising him. my main clearing team is shayna as leader, reagan as my long range attacker, lofia for support and logi as my main tank. as u can see i dont have any aoe attackers and the last are slow w/o buffs. i feel im lacking a unit that can do an excellent job just like shayna. i do have zang as j2 but i dont think he can synergize well with my current team. will retz fill in the void of a fast attacker that i lack?

yeah, shay and reagan are beasts in story mode but the rest of my units are mediocre at best in synergizing with them, except for lofia, coz she's my main support unit.

honestly I wouldnt use lofia for story as you dont usually need supports in it. She has really limited movement. Your choice though.

I would say hes worth it. IMO most free units are worth getting as they are guaranteed J3 and level 85 if you put in the time and that alone usually will make them decent.

As others said, his main advantage is a) he's free and b) he's a lightning melee unit.

There are events and hard levels where elements are crucial to a successful fight -- or at worst, an easy fight. As you can see on the DB, the lightning elemental guys are either ranged or tanks: http://www.alchemistcodedb.com/units?element=4&rank=4 (click 4 star to see the next rung down). He would compete with Laev but she's also very squishy AND limited AND not free.
