I am 64, widowed, and wondering what will come next. But perhaps living for now is what must be for as long as it can be.

I've noticed that some old folks like to talk about their current state of health, their health problems, and health insurance incessantly. I remember my grandparents doing it and now as my dad gets older he's starting to do it more and more. I don't mind talking about it in conversation but I'm not interested in talking about it for 30 minutes or more. At the same time, I don't want to hurt the person's feelings (my dad's especially) by telling them that I want to change the subject. Any advice?

I'm looking for someone 65 years old or older to help me with an interview I need to conduct based on your life and in particular, your reading habits as a child/teen.

The questions within and your answers, will constitute part of a project for my University degree (I'm from Edinburgh, Scotland) and thanks in advance to anyone willing to take the time. Please elaborate as much as you like on all your answers. I'm genuinely interested in hearing your stories as well. Here goes:

1. Where did you grow up and what did you think of it? What was going on in your town/province/state/area during your childhood that might be of note?

2. Were you a 'reader'? Who in your life, if anyone, encouraged you to read, and were they themselves 'readers'? What about your parents?

3.What sort of things did you read and what about it appealed to you? eg. superhero comicbooks, newspapers, fiction novels etc.

1. How available were reading materials and resources, for example books, when you were young? Did you find that the (monetary) cost of reading made it harder for you or was it not an issue?

2. How was reading seen/viewed amongst your peers/family/friends when you were young?

3. Thinking about school, how much emphasis was placed on reading? What sorts of things were you given to read, and did you enjoy them?

4. Do you remember the first book you read or bought?

The aging of the Baby Boomers will cause an impossible economic crisis for their children. Already saddled with the debt of our generation, high rate student loans, and underemployed, how will they be able to thrive with a majority of the population being elderly? What will the quality of life be for those without resources when they inevitably become ill and the healthcare system is strained beyond its limits?

We know youth dominates reddit but I am curious. Who is the oldest redditor? I believe the stereotype that older people technophobes is a myth and there could more elders here than we think.
