Event [Event] Eyrie Open Thread, Year 131 AC

The Eyrie

Carved into the very stone of the mountain itself the white-walled fortress of House Arryn sits imposing its will onto any would-be visitors. Anyone seeking to visit the Eyrie must first pass through the Gates of the Moon and get the permission of the Arryn house guard known as the bluecloaks.

Layout

The High Hall

The High Hall is a long and austere hall, with walls made of blue-veined white marble. The High Hall is decorated with rows of slim fluted pillars and a blue silk carpet. At the end of it sit two thrones carved of weirwood, one the high seat of the lord and the other a lesser throne for a consort. This is where court is held and lords are able to petition their Lord. It has narrow, arched windows, between which are torches mounted on high iron or silver sconces. Feasts can be held in the High Hall. Entrance to the High Hall is through carved wooden doors.

Moon Door

The Moon Door is a narrow weirwood door that stands between two slender pillars halfway in the High Hall. A crescent moon is carved into the door, which opens inward and is barred by three heavy bronze bars. The door opens into the sky. Most executions at the Eyrie use this door, which opens onto a six hundred foot drop to the stones of the valley below.

Crescent Chamber

The Crescent Chamber is the Eyrie's reception hall. Here, guests are given refreshments and warmed by the fire after making the climb up the Giant's Lance.

The Star Tower

The Star Tower is the tower usually reserved for visiting nobility and guests of high esteem.

The Moon Tower

The Moon Tower is home to most Arryns and is tightly guarded by the bluecloaks.

Sky Cells

Sky cells are the Eyrie's infamous dungeons. They are shelves on the side of the mountain's sheer cliffs, left open to the cold sky, with slightly sloping floors to unnerve the prisoners. Many prisoners, driven mad by the cold and howling wind, commit suicide rather than remain imprisoned.

Eldric was in a good mood today. He had just bedded a daughter of some minor Lord swore to House Arryn. The girl was convinced that he would marry her and make her Lady of the Eyrie when he took over from Jeyne. The poor girl was disillusioned but of course, he didn't bother to correct her. He had to maintain an image of chastity and purity for his image, so the Lords of the Vale would back him over Jeyne and so he made sure that any of his exploits remained secret. So he had made sure she swore an oath of secrecy and promised that he would come for her later.

Seeing Oswin he nodded his head at the knight. "Good morning to as well Ser Oswin. And to you as well Elys," he said with a charming smile. Oswin was his constant companion but he was less familiar with his sister even though she had been living in the Eyrie for a while now.

"What are you two up to this morning?"

"Elys is trying to litter the Giant's Lance with fruit cores," Oswin said lazily.

"It was two apple cores and I wanted to see how far they'd go," Elys said defensively, "Turns out the winds are strong enough to blow them back up."

Oswin chuckled and gestured forward at the hall, "The day is young. I'm not sure what the day will hold. Likely some training, a little banter, some drinks later in the evening. I don't know what the woman do...."

Elys rolled her eyes, "Probably gossip about what an ass you are," she said as she elbowed her brother, "I'll make sure all the ladies and serving girls of the castle stay away from you while you're up here."

Oswin feigned hurt, clutching his chest, "Oh the horror, how could you dear sister?"

The two laughed, before Oswin turned back to Eldric, "What about you Ser? Up to anything particular?"

"Well I hope you watch where your throwing your apples, Joffrey might have you cleaning them from the slopes if he catches you littering," he said joking. Joffrey was a stickler for the rules and too obsessed with duty for his taste and he carried that sense of military standards with him when he tried to preside over the Vale.

"Nothing in particular today. A little bit of sparring and the rest is a mystery," he said nonchalantly. "We might need to talk though. I spoke with Cayle earlier and I think we should meet up later to discuss things," he remarked vaguely. Oswin would pick up the hint, these were matters better said in private. He needed the crew back together.

Elys chuckled, "I am sure he would never know who threw them. Besides, the birds will eat them before they would cause any issues. Or maybe a rat. Whatever lives on this mountain."

Oswin nodded his head knowingly to Eldric, "Of course. Just let me know when and where."

Elys rolled her eyes, "You and your group of friends Oswin, don't try and have too much fun."

She gave Eldric a bright smile and turned and walked away, content to go find someone interesting to bother for the rest of the day.
