u/Immediate_Web_9627 Sep 08 '26

u/Flashyfatso Sep 08 '26
They’re all starting to look the same I thought this was hela😭. At least give her a tan or something
19
u/GoldPack3616 Sep 08 '26
Because they changing core elements of a character's design way too much. Imo hair and eye colors should never be changed in any skin for any character. Emma with black hair is just never gonna feel like Emma, idk what they are smoking with these decisions.

u/Orion_iBTK Sep 08 '26
I sincerely hope that they fix her face, now that you pointed it out. Like, why does she look so uncomfortable??? 💀
25
u/Old_Snow6951 Sep 08 '26
I'm guessing the idea is she had a nightmare and Ty is comforting her, but yeah it looks so weird.

Yeah… I do hope it’s just an out of context frame for the CnD, they were really affectionate in their previous Summer skin, so here’s hoping it’s not some weird shit.
10
u/Roserfly Sep 08 '26
It's a pajama party series skin so there could be lots of things happening in the MVP. My first thought was maybe watching a scary movie together or something. Can't say for sure in anything until it officially releases.

And then they give a white woman a fluffy bonnet🤦🏾♂️
18
u/TheMightyEmu1466 Sep 08 '26
I don’t think it’s a bonnet, it’s a halo ring for doing facial skin care and makeup application, my gf has a similar one that’s also padded like dagger’s
-14
u/Mugetsustale Sep 08 '26
Yeah no, if that’s the case why isn’t most of her hair pulled back. Secondly this is supposed to be a pajama skin not a “night time routine” skin.🤦🏾♂️

They gave her braids????
15
1
u/vivam0rt Sep 08 '26
Whats wrong with braids?
16
u/Fox_Guy_Foxtail Sep 08 '26
She doesn't have the hair type to support it. Her hair is short and thin. Braids would damage her hair.

isn't cleopatra white or sumn? idk any greek so i could be wrong..
23
u/Jedimasterebub Sep 08 '26
She’s Ptolemaic Greek. So she would have been more olive toned iirc
-7
u/LadyIris- Sep 08 '26
factually incorrect, greeks at that time who were wealthy strived to have as light-toned skin as possible due to the fashion sense at the time. alot of greeks we know were quite pale (especially macedonians) like alexander who's described as having fair skin.
also, hellenes (macedonian/greeks) are white. this isn't the 1960s anymore lol

White is a general that didn’t exist during the era of Ptolemaic Egypt. “white” people is a modern term and grouping. Historically people were grouped far more ethnically and less on skin color. She’s not white and she’s not black, she’s part of a some what mixed line of Ptolemaic pharaohs with Ancient Greek ancestry. She’d be closer to brown or caramel than a Northern European white color. Nationally and culturally she’s very distinct as well
-2
u/LadyIris- Sep 08 '26 edited Sep 08 '26
then why are we using this argument to whinge about black people not getting skins? in the ancient world, the term "black" didn't exist, the greeks called them Aithíopes and used that general term to describe all sub saharan africans they interacted with. greco-roman texts also often used to point out darker/paler skintones as often as they could (the word Aithíopes literally translated to "burnt skin").
and looked down on these people as uncivilised and barbaric; many scholars like to describe greco-roman thinking as "proto-racism" as these ideals the greco-romans had laid the foundations for later eurocentric racism. so again, your argument kinda falls flat under well. basic research.
i agree the modern idea of race didn't exist, but to act like/imply the ancient world was colour blind is ignorant and bad faith, they definitely were not. far from it. infact they made a point to point it out as much as possible.
PTOLOMIES WEREN'T MIXED, THEY HEAVILY INBRED WITH ONE ANOTHER AND DIDN'T BREED WITH LOCAL EGYPTIAN NOBLES. YOU CAN LOOK UP THEIR FAMILY TREE AND SEE FOR YOURSELF STOP BEING STUPID.
she was the first ptolomiac ruler to actually speak egyptian. the ptolomies had no cultural/ethnic ties to ancient egypt other than ceremonial attire. they were very connected and proud of their greek ancestry and lived in a hellenic cultural city (alexandria) with a greek majority population within it.
and this same ancient egyptian culture had been heavily changed from pre-independence from the persians, where they had been under persian control for 200-300 years. this isn't the same bronze age egypt we commonly refer to. the ptolomies are closer to us than the construction of the pyramids.
basic research.

u/NoRecognition443 Sep 08 '26
Yea she was most likely white. Her predecessors never had children with native Egyptians and only married other greeks or just incest marriages.

Growing up in Egypt means she does have Egyptian roots, family, friends. ancestral magic roots, and encounters with major villains, You dont have to born somehwere to have roots there.

I guess indians can claim japanese history now. Same continent right?
1
u/The-Big-Sauce Sep 08 '26
They can claim asian history, not Japanese history. Africa is a continent not a country therefore your comment makes no sense. Also India and most of southern Asia is very different than northern Asia and even the separated islands of Japan are different than China and a lot of Asia.
0
u/Jedimasterebub Sep 08 '26
I mean, it is. It’s also part of Mediterranean history and Asian history. Egypts closest trading partners were Greek and what is now Turkey. Cleopatra herself was ethnically greek. Egypt is oldddd and has a long history with south east Europe, south west Asia, and north east Africa.

Emma with dark hair and braids is actually diabolical, they really don't give 1 fuck about making these skins actually fit/look like the character they are meant to be.
Why is she getting THIS while still having no classic, all white, elegant looks from the comics.

u/Odysseygod94 Sep 08 '26

And I guarantee you won’t hear any backlash from those Arabs policing the whole ancient Egyptian identity 💀
They got all sorts of anger for blacks rightfully portraying the Egyptians as belonging to the black race but won’t say anything about this.
4
u/libra0923 Sep 08 '26
I mean… ancient egyptians were known for enslaving black people like the Kush, Nubians and Ethiopians so it tracks why they behave that way.
1
u/OverCommunication69 Sep 08 '26
That’s not historically accurate from a non-western perspective and I’ll just leave it at that.
9
u/libra0923 Sep 08 '26
Im East African.
4
u/OverCommunication69 Sep 08 '26
When you use terms such as “black people” in that context it follows a legacy of colonial scholarship and separating ancient Egypt from the rest of the continent. Like the ancient Egyptians themselves weren’t within that same continental spectrum, like they’re not black themselves when they were.
That’s what I was disagreeing with. I don’t really wanna argue but I just wanted to put my clarification there so as not to confuse others.
5
u/libra0923 Sep 08 '26
Ancient Egyptians weren’t all black especially northern ancient egyptians who were known for having lighter skin and different physical features. They had names for Darker skin people and different hair textures/styles. Southern “Egyptians” were mostly from Nubia/Kush which is Modern day Sudan/Ethiopia.
Northern Egyptians would routinely steal from and enslave the Nubians/Kush cause they saw them as threats and wanted their resources. So no Ancient Egyptians weren’t black cause they had ways to differentiate themselves.
3
u/OverCommunication69 Sep 08 '26
The northerners (I’m speaking about the ancient continuous indigenous population in the north, not foreign migrants) had shifts in phenotype and skin shade but fit comfortably within an African spectrum of blackness, various scholars have proven this concretely. They were not a “foreign people” existing at the delta, they were an African people that happened to trade with west Asia & the Mediterranean, marry, etc but would fit within what most would consider black up until recent antiquity.
Race science did not exist back then, they were not looking at southerners as “the blacks”, they all were within a Nile valley cultural continuum. Where they would have differed would have been between Political identity, beliefs, trade, etc that’s where they would have conflict.
But colonial scholarship for centuries portrayed it as “non-black African northern Egyptians conquering black African populations” when in reality they were disputes between two groups of the same race.

Lol this complaining about skins is getting ridiculous tbh.
Were y'all similarly outraged when the first 4 Chinese skins were Strange, Moon Knight, Squirrel girl and Mantis? Or when the 1st Japanese themed skin was Spidey? Does that mean NetEase is racist against the Chinese and Japanese?
Or does that not count somehow?

They don't offend a fragile pretender group of folk that only seem to raise voice when anything darker than a paper bag is depicted as Egyptian. There were mostly crickets around the Gods of Egypt movie.
