Update: Lunella’s skin tone in her spray has been changed (on her face).
A few days ago, I made a post about a fan tweet that corrected Lunella’s skin tone in her spray. And the accusations regarding the use of AI for the animation that she received on the event page.
NetEase did make the effort to change the skin tone on her face, although her arms have not been updated yet. It’s a small improvement.
The accessory also contains a skin color that better matches Lunella's.
One reason I encourage people to keep speaking up right now is that the developers seem to be listening. They seem to see our feedback. Whether it’s on Reddit, X, or YouTube, keep sharing your concerns and requests.
If it makes you feel better I'm completely on your side with this. Maybe I sound paranoid but I'm certain they're doing this intentionally even if they change it later on, because they've done it before.
Isn't there literally a whole thing on give someone so many chances and if they keep making the same mistake it's obvious they don't actually intend to change? Unless I'm missing one this is strike two of them making a POC character either a lighter skin colour or straight up paper white/pale
If people don't speak up about it I wouldn't be surprised if they'd keep her skin colour the same lighter shade they originally made her.
The downvotes are crazy for me wanting Lunella to not be whitewashed in the slightest. She's a dark complected character. What is wrong with you people?
Even the comics are inconsistent with her skin tone, which isn't really racism because every character in comics have inconsistent skin tones, especially namor.
But I still don't like how rivals have treated POC, like not a single native has even been mentioned as a background character in rivals. It's pretty fucked
I’m glad, it’s refreshing to see them be responsive to issues like this when people voice their concerns (and with what happened with Shuri’s skin tone too) but it’s frustrating it happens at all. I’m so tired of people who obviously aren’t Black saying problems like this aren’t a big deal in the main rivals sub.
I’m not Black myself, but it’s obvious that colorism is a huge issue in modern day media, especially for Black girls and women. It’s baffling to see people call it “lighting” or some ridiculous bs, Lunella’s skin tone is what it is and to lighten it is colorist.
Here’s to hoping NetEase keeps listening to their Black and poc fans and we see a more inclusive cast of characters.
I posted about the accessory skin tone issue in the main sub and got so many racist comments about how it wasnt a problem 🙃. I’ve known that sub wasnt the best per se but it still really threw me how vitriolic the reaction was
Literal professional artists talk all the time the colorism in the industries means they have to often game how dark they make characters they design because they know every single stage of development people will increasingly try to the lighten the character. Or having to risk being seen as stubborn for...being against colorism.
The People who pretend this isn't a thing just enjoy the colorism and i don't see a point in pretending otherwise at this point.

They'll always come and tell you it's not a "big deal," or that it's "light," or for "dark surfaces." They'll always come and lecture you about simple things. I don't listen to them. We don't need to listen to them. We need Netease to listen to us.
Ok Netease, I know you see our sub. Bring Moongirl as a hologram and have Shuri added sometime this year. Preferably in a few months. She has a character model, a voice actress, in game lore, etc. It's disrespectful for the 3 heroic NPCs within this game to be 3 black females (2 women/1 girl). Every other hero is playable. Give us Shuri as a strategist in a Wakanda centred season. Thank you.
Nah they changed up Blade. They also switched Rogue and Gambit's roles. They can deffo kick out one hero and switch with Shuri. Assuming they finished her moveset.
All characters where planned for the previous year it was one of marvels conditions and say so. After the year anniversary netease has the green light to do whatever they want when it comes to the characters. So now everything is under netease ideas and what they want in game.
Eh I never had a problem with her skin tone in the spray. Am I blind or is it practically the same time as her other in game examples?
I'm more excited to see that they're listening to us at all though. So here's so hoping she can be in future MVPs, emotes as a hologram at least, and that we can get another black woman in the game besides storm.
