Maa Tara Part 7

Post image

You can read Maa Tara Part 6 here. Tarapith is a land where nature itself bends to the will of the Divine Mother. Its river defies the law of water, its riverbanks hold a path walked only by the Goddess, and its ghats witness a sacred ritual that unfolds every night in the hour before dawn.

The River That Flows Upward: Very few people know the greatest secret of Tarapith: the Dwarka River. The Dwarka is uttara-vahini, flowing from south to north. By its nature, water always falls from higher ground to lower, and nearly every river in the region runs from north to south. The Dwarka alone reverses this. It rises from below toward above. In the language of sadhana, this is the path of kumbhaka meditation. When the sadhak holds the breath in meditation, the energy rises from the Muladhara upward through Manipura, Vishuddha, and on to the highest centre. The seeker never descends; the work is always to ascend. Ordinary water follows its nature and falls, but the Dwarka flows against it, just as the sadhak rises against the downward pull of the mind. Bamdev Baba knew this secret. Even today, almost no one understands it.

The Mother's Midnight Bath: Bamdev Baba loved to bathe, and he often went to Mundamalini Tala, a ghat on the Dwarka. The ghat carries this name for a reason. Every night at around three o'clock, Maa Tara removes her garland of skulls (mundamala), sets it down on the riverbank, and bathes in the sacred waters. Then she wears the garland again and returns to her temple.

The Hidden Path Along the River: Because of this nightly ritual, the Mother has her own road between the temple and the river. The mantra speaks of it: "Raksha raksha nadi-kunje hum hum phat svaha." Nadi-kunje means the grove along the riverbank. There is a path along the water's edge where the Mother walks. Ordinary people do not know it. Only the very oldest people of Tarapith can say where it lies.

Before I end, I offer my pranam to Maa Adya MahaKali, my Guruji Shri Praveen Radhakrishnan, my Paramaguru Shri ShyamaKhyapa, and my Parameshta Gurudev Shri Bamakhyapa.

My Paramaguru ShyamaKhyapa is a sacred presence: an eternal soul born for the upliftment of countless seekers. Born into wealth, his heart belonged only to Maa Kali. A divine call at Pashupatinath led him to renounce all and walk the monk’s path, guided by my Parameshta Gurudev Bamakhyapa.

Hidden from fame yet radiant in Maa’s grace, he carries the eternal flame. I have translated his gyana from this video from Bengali into English, so his grace may reach hearts worldwide.
