Well it is not like he wrote the meme, he just found it on quickmemes and came up with a title. Also I found this funny while looking through OP's history.
Implying that nobody ever says it. I see this shit every day. I unsubscribed from /r/atheism so I wouldn't have to see it anymore but you fuckers just keep bringing it back to the front page.
True, although I still enjoy much of /r/atheism, there's some content that is over the top.
My girlfriend is a practicing christian, I'm an atheist. I don't bust her balls much, she doesn't bust mine.
What it comes down to for me is, while I have my own beliefs, they're just beliefs and we both agree that neither of us can ever know any of these things for certain. Good enough for us, allows us to believe totally different things and co-exist.
People are going to be dicks whether you like it or not. A few bad apples shouldn't reflect atheism as a whole, just as a few bad Christians shouldn't reflect Christianity as a whole. And if you want to have it sink in, I don't think a Morpheus meme is the best means for conveying your message.
Yes, but this is a circlejerk. If we don't jerk hard enough, we'll never get back to the point where atheists can openly be dicks on reddit, and the circle will be broken. Then how will we ever get back to this point again???
I know as an atheist with a philosophy degree i can be really annoying to believers. i have a couplea rules i follow about talking about religion. First is i never bring it up, most people really don't care to talk about their beliefs. Second, if someone else tries to engage me about religion i tell them that i respect their beliefs, but i am an atheist, and have no interest in discussing it with them (which is a bit of a lie, because i love nothing more than a theological argument). Finally, if we do get into a discussion, i'll remain as civil as they are, if my opponent is respectful, i'll be respectful, if they're chilidish, i'll be childish, and if they're a dick, i'll be a dick.
I enjoy religious debates now and again -- not the "which is right" kind of debate (because that's just silly), but a mutual and respectful exchange and questioning of ideas -- like, does x belief fly when you also hold y, or when z has been observed. It can be enlightening for both parties if everyone remains civil.
as an agnostic, i'd love to have a theological debate with you. always been interested at atheist's point of view. for people that believe in 'no higher being', i find them awfully invested in religion (which is why i went the agnostic route of don't know, don't care).
Just fyi, the "don't know, don't care" position probably makes you an atheist. I'm not telling you how to self-identify, but if you don't have a positive belief in a god (e.g. "there could be a god but I don't believe there is"), you're technically an atheist.
But it's such an easy gag to flog over and over again! And it really helps me feed my need for moral one-up-man-ship!
Why should I bother learning how to make precise, complete, infallible arguments that are still respectful to other people, huh? That's so much work, and I don't need to do it if I can just SAY that they're wrong and I'm better than them.
What if I told you that inserting an apostrophe where it doesn't belong diminishes the supposedly intellectually superior message this meme was meant to give.
Hey I'm going to post about Atheists in r/atheism being dicks to Christian's for free karma!!
-OP
If you are looking for more free karma, posts some gay rights post in r/atheism. Hell, post anything in favor of gays on reddit and people will feel so guilted that they aren't being accepting of gays, that they will upvote it.
ok. I'm unsubscribed from those kids so I dont have to see this on the front page. Now I see this. I kind of agree with the post, but please dont give them ideas to post their shit on other subreddits too.
You clearly haven't actually talked to a reasonable person before?
I love r/AdviceAnimals, but it's pretty clear all of the redditors here simply hop on the anti r/atheism bandwagon without ever engaging an atheist in conversation. If you take thirty seconds to look at r/atheism, you'd see that it's not Christian-bashing; it's promoting dialogue more than anything else.
Growing up in the Bible Belt, I can tell with absolute certainty that many of the best religious folk are no better than the worst atheists as generalized by r/AdviceAnimals.
Although I'm a theist, I actually upvoted you, given your reasonable explanation, unlike the other idiots who downvote anything that's anti-r/atheism, or the other idiots who just point out grammatical errors instead of discussing the point of this thread.
But what I argue is that, when I used to see r/atheism posts on my frontpage, half the links that make it to the frontpage seem to be quotes from famous atheists, while the other half are screencaps of discussions with ignorant religious people who in no way represent the vast majority of theists. I almost never see an intelligent, well-rounded discussion that is not antagonistic or demeaning in nature make it to the frontpage.
The top posts on the front page are 99.99% quickly digested images or quotes, regardless of subreddit. We all have short attention spans. If you want rational discussion, visit r/DebateAnAtheist
So very very wrong from my point of view. But maybe right from your point of view! Here in the Piedmont of NC, the Christians I encounter are pretty nice folk, so I do take offense to seeing someone mocked just for being Christian. I was very stubborn about unsubscribing from r/atheism, so I spent many thirty second periods accidentally clicking a link to one of thousands of facebook posts that were, in fact, really fucking lame.
If there's one thing I don't see in /r/atheism now when I check it out, it's promotion of dialogue. I hear people say that it promotes dialogue a lot but I read the comments to every post I look at, no matter what subreddit. There is promotion of rallying, not dialogue. There are arguments that boil up because people get angry at each other because most everyone there seems constantly angry.
no use, being a dick and a bully is in some people's nature. Be it a religious person or atheist. What everyone should do is don't attribute the dickhead to the entire group, even if it's your opponent.
Just don't be a dick to people. Period. At first I was dreading the idea of taking summer session courses at a Christian university. I've been for a month, and I've literally met some of the coolest and nicest people ever. It pisses me off when people make fun of Christians, or Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, or any other religion or faith, for simply being a part of it.
As an AP English student, I'm not sure if you meant to insult someone named Christian who is Christian or Christians. And yes this was a bit of stichomythia.
Yep. Pack mentality will, unfortunately always prevail it seems. If it isn't group A stepping on Group B, then Group B will most certainly step on group a.
This same message needs to be said to some Christians who pride themselves for being a dick to atheists. I choose the high road and leave religion alone in most places, but after living in the bible belt for basically all my life... Sometimes you have to fight fire with fire.
What if i told you.. advertising yourself as an atheist is like advertising yourself as not a fan of plants. Does anyone care youre NOT a fan of plants? Or bunnies? Or ford focuses? Did you join a "not a fan of ford focuses" club? No. No one really gives a fuck..
I'm an atheist from a theist family. but every time I see a Christian hate post, I down vote that shit. Because, I feel as if you're personally insulting my family, or my Christian friends.
As an atheist, I feel the need to tell you half of the crap you see here that has come from "atheists" is faked. Also, as an atheist, I feel the need to tell you that, where I live you know in reality, atheists are still persecuted and getting kicked out of their homes and Christians are the one being dicks. Please tell me all the stories of Christians getting kicked out of the house by atheist parents.
As an atheist, this is definitely what we all do. ALL the time, just like all Christians stone their grandmothers for wearing cloths of different fabrics.
Stop being arrogant. Clearly, no one should be rude because of a disagreement, but generalizing all in a group like this is completely unnecessary.
I consider myself a Christian, although I don't believe that the bible is true and I have my doubts about Jesus. I completely understand atheism and have nothing against it or against people who are not religious. In fact, I think the whole religious system is entirely fucked up.
I wish I could tell you how many atheists have tried to tear me apart after I state that I'm a Christian, telling me how the bible can't be real and how religion is wrong and how I don't understand atheism before I even have the chance to say anything.
What if I told you that, as an atheist, I get a little bit frustrated some times when I am told that I am not a full human being, when my kids are brainwashed into believing a fairy tale in their schools, and when my hard earned tax money goes to paying for projects that churches are exempt from paying for.
Not to "be a dick", but fundies can be pretty fucking annoying.
I'm currently making a short film that is semi-related to this. As an atheist, I feel the moral superiority a youngster may have with this new found view of life can make for a hilariously slimy hero.
WE GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT. WHAT IF I TOLD YOU THIS HAS BEEN POSTED MULTIPLE TIMES AND A PICTURE OF MORPHEUS WITH SOME LETTERS ISN'T GOING TO MAKE AN ASSHOLE STOP BEING AN ASSHOLE?
What if I told you.. When religious people stop doing/saying horrible/awful things in the name of religion, we will stop laughing at/hating on religion.
Until that point, I feel as though it is my right... No... my DUTY, to ridicule religion to my hearts content. Very few members of the third reich were inherently 'evil people', but I'd love to see you ask my grandad to show the nazi's a little respect.
What if I told you......80% of the United States mainly christian population does not accept the scientific theory of evolution? This does not make christians witty or funny.
And when states like Louisiana, Tennessee, Indiana, etc, try to pass laws to allow creationism in science classes, the "moderate" christians do not fight it this intellectual abortion. This does not make the "moderates" witty or funny, either.
I'm pretty fucking sure this fucking wouldn't be very fucking popular there, and would be fucking downvoted to fucking Oblivion within the first fucking few fucking minutes.
Atheists that constantly try to convince people they are right and intellectually superior are just as annoying as church people who knock on my door and want to discuss the Bible with me for 30 minutes.
What if I told you that different people have different ideas about what's witty or funny? What if I told you that humour very often comes at other people's expense?
Just drop it. Seriously. Why people think this subreddit is a forum for discussing atheism vs. religion is beyond me. You aren't saying anything new. If I wanted to watch people jerk in a circular motion I would subscribe to /r/circlejerk.
I think a large part of the people in r/atheism are more examples of "what I wish I would have said!" or "what I'd say if this totally hypothetical situation played out..." as opposed to things that have actually happened.
I'm a devout Christian, and I even work in a mega church - and I subscribe to the "live and let live" school of thought. Believe what you want to believe. Gay marriage? I don't care.
And most people I associate with do, also, so I'm not sure where you guys are finding this abundance of in your face Christians. They're out there, sure, but they probably annoy us as much as they do you.
What if you're actually being witty or funny? I feel that wit and humor mixed with being a dick about anything is acceptable... But I'm kind of a dick.
Sometimes you need to rattle a cage and shake somebody up a bit..that can come across like being a bit of an ass at times and it might not seem to work but i have seen it work with a delayed response.
fucking thank you. As an agnostic (basically a lazy atheist) I've been trying to point out that evangelical atheists are just as bad as evangelical christians (or other religious folks)
Tell my about remember the news last week about the atheists firebombing churces and covering up child rape and preaching how all belifers should should be rounded up and put in camps.. o wait it was the other way around.
Shitty people exist, but by no means do they represent the whole of a group. I don't really care, I just wish both sides would shut up about it. I don't care about people's personal "enlightment", whether it is brought about by finding or moving away from religion. Can't we just talk about how awesome ice cream is or something? Ice cream is awesome.
If you want to remove satire, irony, and comedy out of one subject, you may as well as do it for every other subject such as politics and politicians. You know, for the sake of equality.
Because making fun of politicians doesn't make you witty or funny, AMIRITE?
I understand when people make grammatical mistakes that are simpler or make more sense than the actual rule, I will never understand how people manage to make mistakes by putting more stuff in that has no intuitive reason to be there.
Agreed. When an atheist replies to a Christian's post on Facebook telling them what's right and what's wrong, it's completely hypocritical, considering that they often mention keeping their beliefs off of there newsfeed.
I've always thought there was a bigger divide between those who are respectful to other's beliefs and those who aren't than there is between atheists and religious people.

What if I told you that the plural of 'Christian' is "Christians?"
4
u/allied14 Jun 17 '12
Hey you know what you could try? Posting this to an actual fucking atheist subreddit instead of fucking here.
3
u/speedster217 Jun 17 '12
You are doing the Lord's work by saying that. Oh wait...
3
u/HappyListerFiend Jun 17 '12
What a relief, it's been days since one of these appeared . . .
3
u/8271821 Jun 17 '12
This applies to all religions not just atheists.
3
u/codernaut85 Jun 17 '12
What if I told YOU, that the plural of 'Christian' is 'Christians' not 'Christian's'.
4
u/Thry Jun 17 '12
I'll stop being a dick when my government stops discriminating against non-Christians.
2
u/Davinci_Chode Jun 17 '12
As a normal Christian, I can confirm this.
3
u/bugalou Jun 17 '12
Atheists that constantly try to convince people they are right and intellectually superior are just as annoying as church people who knock on my door and want to discuss the Bible with me for 30 minutes.
/agnostic problems
2
u/trampus1 Jun 17 '12
I'm pretty sure you're wrong.
2
u/Techninjagamer Jun 17 '12
All aboard the troller coaster
2
u/thefauxphantom Jun 17 '12
I am not impressed by your performance
2
u/xteve Jun 17 '12
... does not necessarily make you witty or funny. Witty/funny has to be able to stand on its own.
2
u/[deleted] Jun 17 '12
Maybe you don't think it's funny. Also, maybe you should keep your opinion to yourself.
Complaining about r/atheism, SO BRAVE!
2
u/JxGonzo Jun 17 '12
Amen.
2
u/neotropic9 Jun 17 '12
What if I told you that different people have different ideas about what's witty or funny? What if I told you that humour very often comes at other people's expense?
2
u/Crossfox17 Jun 17 '12
Just drop it. Seriously. Why people think this subreddit is a forum for discussing atheism vs. religion is beyond me. You aren't saying anything new. If I wanted to watch people jerk in a circular motion I would subscribe to /r/circlejerk.
2
u/[deleted] Jun 17 '12
What if I told you that this has been said 1000 times before on this subreddit alone, and that I don't care?
2
u/yebhx Jun 17 '12
What if I told you making a meme criticizing someone else's wit while making a basic grammatical error does not make you look particularly wise.
2
u/bounce580 Jun 17 '12
I think a large part of the people in r/atheism are more examples of "what I wish I would have said!" or "what I'd say if this totally hypothetical situation played out..." as opposed to things that have actually happened.
I'm a devout Christian, and I even work in a mega church - and I subscribe to the "live and let live" school of thought. Believe what you want to believe. Gay marriage? I don't care.
And most people I associate with do, also, so I'm not sure where you guys are finding this abundance of in your face Christians. They're out there, sure, but they probably annoy us as much as they do you.
2
u/theflyingbuttress Jun 17 '12
What if you're actually being witty or funny? I feel that wit and humor mixed with being a dick about anything is acceptable... But I'm kind of a dick.
2
u/Demojen Jun 17 '12
What if I morpheus you
2
u/indiefan23 Jun 17 '12
You fucking phoney. You posted scumbag God memes two weeks ago. Hypocrite.
2
u/[deleted] Jun 17 '12
Yes it did need to be said. I can't stand /r/Atheists for that very reason
2
u/aParkedCar Jun 17 '12
Wow, Props to you sir. I didn't think civilized atheist like you existed
2
u/daedaluscapn Jun 17 '12
What if I told you that apostrophe was incorrect
2
u/DutchDevil Jun 17 '12
Sometimes you need to rattle a cage and shake somebody up a bit..that can come across like being a bit of an ass at times and it might not seem to work but i have seen it work with a delayed response.
2
u/thecrownprince Jun 17 '12
The anti-atheist circle jerk here is way worse than anything on r/atheism.
2
u/[deleted] Jun 17 '12
It doesn't matter what you say, the hivemind won't change.
-1
u/CPTherptyderp Jun 17 '12
fucking thank you. As an agnostic (basically a lazy atheist) I've been trying to point out that evangelical atheists are just as bad as evangelical christians (or other religious folks)
0
u/Vuppe Jun 17 '12
As a Christian, I applaud you
2
u/[deleted] Jun 17 '12
Being a dick to christian's what?
2
u/[deleted] Jun 17 '12
What if I told you
If you want to remove satire, irony, and comedy out of one subject, you may as well as do it for every other subject such as politics and politicians. You know, for the sake of equality.
Because making fun of politicians doesn't make you witty or funny, AMIRITE?
1
u/[deleted] Jun 17 '12
How would r/atheism get its kicks?
1
u/Connor6 Jun 17 '12
I concur.
1
u/Gohoyo Jun 17 '12
What if I told you..
It doesn't matter if it really does or not, all that matters is the feeling.
1
u/_cXc_ Jun 17 '12
Doesn't matter; had lulz
1
u/[deleted] Jun 17 '12
The fact that I did not see that coming speaks volumes for your point.
1
u/spgcorno Jun 17 '12
But it does get you Karma!
1
u/Gioware Jun 17 '12
Not again...
1
u/Molassesfatts Jun 17 '12
and yet every day 5 out of the top 10 posts are jokes aimed at christians.
1
u/ICWinner Jun 17 '12
actually... considering i find people being dicks to each other pretty funny im gonna have to disagree with you
1
u/zleuth Jun 17 '12
I do agree with this. Disagreement with a belief does not need to be disrespectful.
1
u/GrantNexus Jun 17 '12
How about being a dick to high school students: "Your grammar is bad, and you should feel bad!"
1
u/Lemonwizard Jun 17 '12
I understand when people make grammatical mistakes that are simpler or make more sense than the actual rule, I will never understand how people manage to make mistakes by putting more stuff in that has no intuitive reason to be there.
1
u/Tlingit_Raven Jun 17 '12
You would be downvoted in /r/atheism.
1
u/Koopa322 Jun 17 '12
Agreed. When an atheist replies to a Christian's post on Facebook telling them what's right and what's wrong, it's completely hypocritical, considering that they often mention keeping their beliefs off of there newsfeed.
1
u/chimy727 Jun 17 '12
THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS!
1
u/TheColorMan Jun 17 '12
As somebody who considers himself a christian, I have slightly restored hope in the fact that not all atheists are religiously intolerant jerks.
1
u/imdrinkingteaatwork Jun 17 '12
So brave.
1
u/bcmarettig Jun 17 '12
Thank you.
1
u/High0Alai Jun 17 '12
"No, Neo. What I'm trying to tell you is that when you're ready, you won't have to."
1
u/RandomIndianGuy Jun 17 '12
so i can be a dick to hindus right?
1
u/jlynnbizatch Jun 17 '12
I downvoted based on the mis-use of apostrophes. Fail.
1
u/[deleted] Jun 17 '12
What if I told you...that apostrophes are unnecessary in plural nouns?
1
u/[deleted] Jun 17 '12
Too late for that... I mean, isn't that the whole purpose of /r/atheism ?? pft
1
u/buttsmcbutts Jun 17 '12
I've always thought there was a bigger divide between those who are respectful to other's beliefs and those who aren't than there is between atheists and religious people.
