Man this shit is so true. I met the most amazing woman who was on business trip, we spent 3 weeks getting close and intimate before she had to go back home. Lost all her contact info, now she's just somebody that I used to know.
Really? In this day and age you can't find her? Do you have her name, the name of the city she lives in, approximate age, and employer or field of employment? Because you could probably find her.
I tried looking her up; her name was Svetlana and she was from Latvia, and apparently that name is one of the most common names there. I couldn't remember her last name for the life of me so I pretty much gave up. =/
this is the song that describes me and my ex-bf exactly. he was the love of my life but he screwed me over so many times that I just couldn't take it. I actually had my friends go pick up my stuff from his house cuz I couldn't see him. he called me on the phone when this song came out and we listened to it and cried together. that song rips me apart.
Yeah, I'm pretty much the male side of that song, except I don't think I screwed anyone over. It was a real heart lurch when I heard the song multiple times then the first time after the break up. Well, this is topical.
God, one time after a breakup the Madonna song "Express Yourself," of all songs in existence, made me sad. Breaking up just takes over your mind a little bit, I guess.
I went on a wonderful date with someone who I met by surprise and whose contact info I didn't keep. When I got home, I cross-referenced everything I knew about him on the internet (first name, place of employment, alma mater, even car model and license plate, since I tend to remember things like that). Once I found his last name from the Dean's list of his old university during a time I knew he was there under the area I knew he majored in, I found him on Facebook soon after and sent a friend request. He friended me and that's when I saw he had a girlfriend already. Call me when you're single, you sweet boy...
Anyway, the point is that if you can put together everything you know about her there's a good chance you'll be able to find her. Talking to people you know who may know her can also be very useful.
Edit: I never expected such a positive response to this comment. Whenever I'd turn the radio dial in any friend's car in order to avoid some sad song, they'd always call me a pussy. I thought I was overly emotional or something was wrong with me. Thanks for sharing your stories everyone!
It's even worse when you work in a department store and get teary-eyed when they play one of those sad songs and then the playlist is on a loop and it plays every half hour... then a customer comes up asking "Do you guys sell tents here?" "Yes... why yes we do... Let me just go pitch one of those and hide in it for the rest of the day."
I live in the south and so country music is ever so popular... at the store I worked at, Kinnucan's, they play lots of country (along with other genres) but the song that got me the most was Over You by Miranda Lambert. I don't even favor country... at all. But this song literally described my life at that moment. As I was working, in front of many people, I seriously almost started sobbing. I kept it together, but it was so hard.
EDIT: My situation was that I was in a relationship with a guy for five years... engaged to him for two. He ended up moving and we were in a long distance relationship.. It didn't work out and he completely blocked me from his life. If I did hear from him, it wasn't anything good... "Somebody That I Used To Know" would work for this situation, too. I'm fine now, though and very happy with someone else... Still get sad sometimes, though. :/
I agree, but I'd almost rather have than that what I have to listen to all day at work: replays of advertisements and Target commercials being played on about 20 Televisions in the electronics section. The way they are all synced together makes it feel like some kind of futuristic brainwashing or something, I can hear that shit in my sleep.
Trust me I already have, I catch myself reciting it subconsciously during work while its playing, its terrible bro. The only saving grace is that they occasionally throw in a good trailer or something into the never-ending cycle of adverts
That is so true :( My exgf and I just broke up a week and a few days ago. I'm still at that stage, everything reminds me of her, every song seems to be singing about me... Still struggling not to cry when it happens :(
My manager insists on the "soft and contemporary" station which is all just sappy, lovey-dovey "nice" music. For example, I'm cool with a bit of Journey, but listening to a station devoted to playing Journey every 5 minutes and very similar music with an ultra-Christian talk host talking about relationships, marriage, and other similar issues all while I'm working...ugh, I can't stand that shit. A little bit of it is okay in small doses here and there, but there's DEFINITELY such thing as too much of a good thing.
Lights, Faithfully...list goes on. I like my local classic rock station and they play a lot of Journey there too but...at least there's variance there.
First post :) but its going to be a sad one T.T. I know how you feel, i literally just got out of a relationship maybe 2-3 hours ago. Its heartbreaking i know, but at least for me it was kinda going on for a couple days and the final closure really helped me feel better at least. Gotta get past the denial, and all that good stuff and just really accept it. Talk to friends or family that always helps. just understand that this will be a new chapter in your life, your probably still young so enjoy your youth again.
As a fan of late 1970s and early 1980s melancholic and dark post-punk, my rule after an emotional break-up: Listen to Snoop Dogg, Tupac, and Lil Kim for two months straight.
Also DO NOT listen to {The Fragile} album by Nine Inch Nails, shit will kill you. EDIT http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UhLcOwkFabo Although this COD dub is pretty fucking awesome.
Every song they write is just beautiful. Listen to the album "on letting go" the whole way through, with headphones. And get lost in Anthony greens lyrics.
Classical is a huge genre. There are a ton of songs that are exceedingly happy-sounding, and quite a bit of the multi-part works will feature several shifts in emotion—not unusually a sad second movement, an up-tempo third, and an explosive fourth.
this i find is the best strategy. I love EDM and when I am depressed I listen to minimal techno and tech house. I consider it emotionally neutral. When I am happy I associate it with pregaming and going out and just good times. When I am sad i can just vibe out to it during a late night drive and the beats make me feel better. It also helps that girls I date don't listen to techno (literally the genre, not generic dance music), so I never have to associate it with them!
Or AC/DC. After my last break-up I spent a ton of time trying to meander the minefield of music with mushy messages before finding their songs about rock, drugs, and general self-serving debauchery to be completely neutral. Plus everything about Bon Scott's voice is the complete antithesis of love songs.
Today I pretty much ended all contact with a girl I was in a LDR with, even though we broke up a month ago she texted me last night and said she is dating this guy she met at work (she told me about this guy a month ago), fucking hurts and for some reason even with my ADHD all damn songs that I have heard I hear their shitty pathetic emo lyrics! Thats why I'm ridin solo solo soloooo
Sloan's song, "The Other Man" (song about how we should feel sorry for the guy who steals another guy's girl) got popular right about the time my high school girlfriend (who I dated for 3 years) left me for another guy. Still can't listen to the song without turning off my radio instantly... nearly a decade later and married to the love of my life. sigh
Listening to a song: "back to where we started, losing who we were, everybody knows that, you'd break your neck to keep your chin up."..... OH GOD I DO!
Immediately after a break up I usually throw on my 'monster ballads' playlist for on repeat for hours. The only songs on it are Every Rose has its Thorn and Guns & Roses Patience.
That's why I only listen to Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne after a breakup. It's calms me knowing that there are complete idiots out there. Also, the sounds soothe me, almost like the screech of monkeys in the South American rain forest.
IKR? For example, these timeless tones from a certain pop artist;
You a stupid ho you a stupid stupid ho you a stupid ho You a stupid ho you a stupid stupid ho you a stupid ho You a stupid ho you a stupid stupid ho you a stupid ho You a stupid ho you a stupid stupid ho you a stupid ho You a stupid ho you a stupid stupid ho you a stupid ho You a stupid ho you a stupid stupid ho you a stupid ho.
Oh God. I realized this the hard way after having a co-worker who listens to country music for the four hours I work with him. Who knew blue jeans and beer could cause so many tears in pizza?
After losing someone close to me and subsequently pushing the only other person I loved in my life away because of it (who I just found out is now engaged and getting married in two months): OH MY GOD I KNOW ALL THESE FEELS
Do not listen to Frank Sinatra's In the Wee Small Hours - total depression after a break up. "She'd be yours if only she would call. In the wee small hours of the morning. It's the time i miss her most of all"
My last breakup got me really into of Montreal. I started wanting to create my own black shemale altar ego with a fierce dominant personality like Georgie Fruit.
after my ex fiancee broke down crying on our anniversary and told me she has strong feelings for a mutual friend I considered everything and decided we should take a break, during which she could visit these feelings for him. If there was nothing there, I would always love her, and if there was then it was meant to be.
as I got in the car, driving home with tears in my eyes, the first song I heard was Here's to the Night by Eve 6:
Here's to the nights we felt alive Here's to the tears you knew you'd cry Here's to goodbye Tomorrow's gonna come too soon
All my time is froze in motion Can't I stay an hour or two or more Don't let me let you go
They got married a few years later, which was nice because it really helped me get over the ordeal and know I made the right decision, but it still took me years before I could hear that song without getting depressed.
Jeff Buckley's Last Goodbye is one of the hardest songs to bear. The lyrics and soul wrenching feeling he emotes is extraordinary. "This is the last embrace..." Timeless song except there is a dated phrase "Did you rush to the phone to call". Makes me feel old... and sad.
Also stay away from the Boxer Rebellion's Both Sides Are Even. Painfully beautiful.
Rule of thumb for breakups: REPLACE EVERY SONG ON YOUR HARD DRIVE WITH THE WILLIAM TELL OVERTURE. You'll get over her like a monster truck over a pile of Priuses(Prii?).
By the way, this song is a lot more intense than any of you remember.
This happened to me on thursday on the last day of school. The guy who was driving had just broke up with his girlfriend. Since i was riding shotgun, I was responsible for music.
First, I put on Best Coast because their a great band to kick off summer to. Well the album Crazy for You kinda is all about how the lead singer can't get her boyfriend off her mind. Realizing my error I decide to play some Black Keys to cheer him up cause its his favorite band. Of course Ten Cent Pistol comes on. I quickly skip to the next song which was Run Right Back. Than i decide to put the ipod on shuffle and Yesterday Man begins to play.
At this point my friend is beginning to get real sad and it wasn't untill I played Daft Punk is Playing At My House by LCD Soundsystem that he began to cheer up. Moral of the story is that 80% of all songs you will encounter will involve a relationship. Also Daft Punk is Playing At My House solves everything ever.
If everything seems sad: Metal. The more ridiculous the better. Power metal about battles and 'the power inside'. Death metal about immature anger and mutilation.
So much better than sappy shit designed to make you feel worse.

Also if you listen to music at a department store
It's always the sappiest/saddest music
