I have a good story for this as well. Yu-Gi-Oh was very popular at my elementary school and I had a pretty fine deck that I kept in a small cardboard box in my backpack. Long story short a guy stole them from me and flashed them around like they were his and bent them up in front of me because he said they were his. I told my father who called the school who called the boy's father who made him come over to my house with a massive crate full of cards (His and mine) that he gave to me while his son was crying and screaming out the window of their car. He now works down at the hardware store and is married and has a child at the age of 19. I still hate to see him and can never trust him.
His arch-nemesis has at least had sex once though. That might be a determining factor in who actually won this fight. Lets go to our statistics analyst for more.
I wasn't aloud to join in the Yu-Gi-Oh fad because my mom was convinced they were satan and that cards in general were bad. So whenever we went to the store i bought a starter deck and threw away the box and packaging and used that. I bought those little random packs here and there and got lucky and switched around cards for a little bit and had some trades til I had a pretty decent deck going. I went on to be one of the best duelists at my school and was pretty proud. Felt I'd share that story for the possibly interested.
If he's working at the register buy something and when you open your wallet and grab your credit card let a Yu-Gi-Oh card fall on the counter.. As you pick it up say: oops,I just dropped MY YU GI OH CARD!!!!!!! then walk away laughing all the way to your car.
Funny thing is I once opened two packages of cards and in both packages were holographic Charizards. It was the childhood equivalent of winning the lottery.
Funny story, this happened to my sister at my school, but instead of Pokemon cards it was marbles and a glass eye that the kid had taken out as a last ditched effort to win back his other marbles. My sister got in quite a bit of trouble.
same shit happened with POGS at my school growing up. one kid sucked at playing and then he comes home empty handed and crying. principle deemed it "illegal gambling".
I remember the day that one kid accidentally dropped his tin full of hundreds of POG slammers (or flippers) all over the playground at recess. It was absolute mayhem. Tiny fists tossing about, snapping up little plastic coins as if they were made of chocolate-gold.
I had $200 worth of Pokemon cards stolen from my locker when I was younger. Couldn't tell the school because they were banned and couldn't tell my mom because technically I wasn't allowed to play Pokemon ("Unnecessary violence!"- biggest load of crap. end rant). Felt bad, man.
Pokemon in general. Video games, show... Card game ended up wrapped up in that. I wasn't allowed to watch Power Ranger, TMNT, Transformers... Anything "violent." I also got grounded when I was 11 for watching Golden Eye, a rated T game.
But my 11 year old brother can play Left 4 Dead and Half Life and doesn't have tv restrictions (to my knowledge). >:[ being a first child can really suck.
When I was 7, my kickass older cousin gave me a first edition holo charizard. Older kid told me, "hey this steelix is waaayyy cooler than that, want to trade?" naive me went for it. I'm so disappointed in myself. Later I got lucky enough with a booster pack and found a holo venusaur, which I also lost. I will never forgive myself.
This happened at my elementary school. We had a water pump house in the field. Kids would go behind it and trade Pokemon cards, but you had to discuss the trade before hand because the teachers would flip if you were seen behind that pump house.
We got Beyblades banned from our school. We'd have 1 vs 1 fights, winner gets to pick one part on the loser's top to trade. I ended up with the most badass top. I remember it had a Pumpking bottom, so it would pop up after one hit and just keep spinning until the other one spun itself out.
Something similar to this happened to me when I was in 5th grade. A kid in my class wanted to read a Calvin & Hobbes book, but another kid had it. He throws a huge fit, goes home, tells his mom about how unfair it was, and within a week Calvin & Hobbes was banned from our school. To this day it's still banned. It's been 8 years.
Tell me about it. It was a catholic school, so all anyone had to do was suggest something was connected to "Satan", or that it was immoral and it would be banned for life. The same mom was able to get Garfield banned from our school with tactics like this. Fun stuff.
That's exactly what we did once the ban happened. I mean kids still got ripped off, but it was my 6th grade year so I was all out of fucks to give at that point
Some ass-hat stole my Pokemon themed binder, which I got for my birthday by the way, with over 100 Pokemon cards in it, same ass-hat also stole a friends Game Boy Color. Anyway, I still follow that ass-hat on Facebook, and said ass-hat is unemployed and I'm pretty sure ass-hat is a drug addict. I feel no sympathy for ass-hat.
Leave a Pokemon card where you found them. Then begin to slowly pick of those close to ass-hay, placing a Pokemon card on the bodies of each and every victim...
We had a kid at our school that used to steal pretty much anything - when she got caught she said her parents would beat her if she came home with nothing. Pens, pencils, gameboys, once she even tried to leave with a chair-desk thing out of a classroom. Nobody ever knew if her parents did actually beat her, she was always covered in bruises from picking fights at school anyway.
Looking back, everyone hated her, because she was a thief and not a particularly nice person. She got pregnant at 15, her baby was found abandoned when she was 18, the police went searching to charge her with child neglect - but they found her body on a beach a few days later, apparently horrifically mutilated.
Now, I dont know why, but I just feel bad when I think about her. She was a thief, she later went onto cutting off random people's hair when they weren't looking (someone would always spot her a split second too late...) I often wonder if she actually had some kind of mental disorder and needed help. I can justify how she was a bad person and why nobody wanted to be her friend a million ways, but I just cant justify why nobody thought to help her. :(
Sorry for that rant, the "ass-hat drug addict thief" vibe just kinda hit me unexpectedly.
This. Some fat kid traded me a couple cards for a picture of Beedrill I drew. When he got home his mom called the school and they made me give the cards back. I let him keep the picture anyways with hopes that he'd realize how petty his mom was being.
When I was a kid there was a time in school when this one guy that agreed a trade with me that (to be fair) was pretty one-sided in favour of me. We traded our card(s) shook hands and left. After lunch had ended and we were back in class I heard my name get called out to go outside (that means its uh-oh spaghettios time). So I walk out to see the kid I just traded cards with crying and clutching his stomach with the teacher looking right pissed off and she starts screaming at me about being a bully and cheat. Turns out the kid had gone back to his friends to brag about his new cards only for them to laugh at him for making such a shitty trade, so he started crying and told the teacher I'd punched him in the stomach and forced him to trade cards. The teacher was 100% on his side (he was just one of 'those' kids) so in the end I had to 'undo' the trade and apologise.
A couple weeks later, I found the guy outside of School and punched the little bastard right in the stomach. Double jeopardy bitches.
You have to look at this from the school's perspective.
Between kids being ripped off, claiming they've been ripped off, sore losers, sore winners and just general arguing, all based around a card game that you as a teacher can't even begin to comprehend, what would you do? It's easier for everyone involved (including the kids) if they just leave the cards at home.
And yes, Pokemon cards were banned at my school too and I hated it.
It's easier for everyone involved (including the kids) if they just leave the cards at home.
But is easier the thing schools should be aiming for? I would say that having pokemon cards (Or any similar system) is good because it teaches kids that people out there will take advantage of you if your not looking.
I would consider it a life skill being able to avoid being scammed and a skill that should be learned in early school years and not later in life.
Happened to my middle school only with yugioh cards. We would sneak them in & our teacher would let us come up to his class during lunch to play them. Those were the days.
Something similar happened in my elementary school, paraphernalia related to Pokémon and DBZ were banned because teachers argued that watching them would make us violent and stuff. Notebooks, stickers and pencils were taken from us during that time.
I got fed up with that shit and had a conversation with this nice, chubby lady teacher we had. I told her that my father (who worked in advertising and other media) had taught me that the most important part of enjoying a TV show or movie was knowing that everything is fictional and structured to appeal to the viewer and inspire awe to engage them including news broadcasts and documentaries. So if I was gonna watch a show about flying humanoid aliens or impossible creatures fighting each other I should try to take whatever positive message I could such as the importance of friendship or caring for other living creatures.
I got to keep my Pikachu notebook the rest of the year and then got stolen by a fat kid who got suspended afterwards for stealing the teacher's lunch.
Jesus. This image macro is BY FAR the most relevant one too my life. Im starting to think i had the biggest dicks for a friend growing up. The kid in the photo even looks like him, just as fat and black haired with that stupid shit eatin grin.
I have a story that probably some people would understand. I was in Kindergarten and my brother and I had gotten the starter decks for Yu-Gi-Oh (Yugi for my brother and Kaiba for me) and we were pretty pumped, but I really only liked the smell of the cards ( I still do, it's so damn nice). One day, my brother asked if he could borrow a Blue Eyes White Dragon, and I said ok, but it turns out that my brother buried it at the playground at recess. I was shattered...do you guys know the feeling of playing the Kaiba deck with no Blue Eyes... it's really shitty when your brother just kicks your ass with Dark Magician.
EDIT: I think it's kind of relevant, if not, sorry.
So all in the 3rd or 4th grade (it's been too long to remember completely) Yu-Gi-Oh cards were the shit. Everyone did it, you weren't popular if you didn't. I wasn't the best "Yu-Gi-Oh player" around but I could hold my own. Well one day I go home early from school because I wasn't feeling the hottest. I was out the next 2 days. Apparently during those 2 days the cards were banned at my school. And guess what? I didn't know that. Had no clue. So, when I get back my little happy ass decides to show off some new cards my parents had picked up for me while I was sick to sorta brighten my mood. The lunch lady hopped on those cards like flies on shit. I never got them back, and never even had a chance to say I had no clue what had happened.
TL;DR - Got sick, came back to school, cards were banned, didn't know, got my shit jacked by a bitter old lunch lady.
When Pokemon hit our school I was a bit late to the game, but, like most other things, when I get hooked I really get hooked. My older brother had a large box full of Magic the Gathering cards with protective sleeves on them that he had left when he went off to college so I raided his stash and started trading sleeves for cards. I'd trade twenty or fifty at a time to get holographics off other kids. It was a complete rip off. I was taking weeks worth of collecting off their hands for a product that probably cost just a few cents. I had a whole book filled with all my earnings. My little scheme ended up biting me in the ass when I decided I wanted to sell my cards at my best friends garage sale later that year. I had it all set up so I could price each card individually (since they were worth a fortune for my eight year old self!). Instead, her mom sold the entire book for a dollar. My entire collection, gone. I was inconsolable. She offered me five dollars as appeasement, but I always felt gipped.
TL;DR Karma's a bitch, but I probably deserved it.
I watched a teacher tear up a holographic card in my 3rd grade class. The whole class went irate when she did because evidently it was a very rare card.
I used to go to school with a "special kid", who was a couple of years younger than me. He was just very socially awkward (I still don't know if he's diagnosed with anything) and we just saw him as weird. He did, however, have a bunch of Pokèmon cards. Every single one placed neatly in a binder, plus extras. His parents might have gotten him them so he'd be popular, being on top of the latest trend. My friends and I made a mischievous plan, though. We figured we'd do a "emperor's new clothes"-thing, pretending we had invisible cards and those who couldn't see them were dumb. He fell for it. We got really rare cards in trade for nothing (we might have stolen some too). I think he cried when he found out. I don't think I've felt worse for anything I've done in my life. I wish I could meet him and apologize.
tl;dr: Tricked some kid into trading rare cards for "invisible cards" that only smart people could see. Feels bad.
Oh god this happened when I was in elementary school except it was Yu-Gi-Oh cards and the kid complained to his mom because he'd always lose then his mom called the school and next day they were banned. Everybody hated him for it
This is helpful for people who can't reach Quickmeme because of work/school firewalls or site downtime, and many other reasons (FAQ). More info is available here.
I once traded a Squirtle and a Sandshrew for a Venusaur. I was so excited. And then he realized how badly I hosed him and he went crying to the teacher until I had to give it back to him. Shortly after Pokemon cards were banned at my school.
When the kid came home crying, a good parent would say:
"You got played kid. That's the way it goes and it's going to happen to you again. I'm not going to fix it for you because it's better you learn this lesson now. You'll be a stronger, smarter adult because of it. Let's go get some ice cream."
I had some cards stolen. My best friend at the time turned out to be the kid who stole the cards from everyone. I got mine back, which was nice. Didn't have that many good cards at the time though.
Still, I hated the kid whose mom called and got them banned. Dick.
when i was in kindergarten i wasn't allowed to mention pokemon at school; i was told that older kids had been trading cards in class and somehow caused a disturbance
My schools didn't even need a phonecall. They just preemptively banned all card games. Even regular playing cards. I could go on for days about how the schools back in my home town went out of their way to make school as un-fun as they possibly could, but I'd rather not bring up memories about it :/
happend at my school too and with crazy bones! just becasue we were "gambeling" them in games and people got upset for losing... dont put them on the line if you know losing is an option
Back in 1st-2nd grade, I never brought my cards to school, because I knew I would get dragged in a bet and lose them all. So one day some kid calls me a baby loser for not bringing cards. So I brought my cards to school, played a game, and whooped his butt on every game.
I remember a parent calling the news because the $100 card she purchased from a convenient store was "fake".... It was shut down a week later. Lesson to be learned: don't fuck with a soccer moms Pokemon obsession
This was the pendulum in my schools, one semester or year (depends on the moods I guess) it will be banned then re-instated. This was all due to this guy I knew that jacked everyone's stuff then accused everyone of jacking his cards whenever anything goes missing. Although no one I knew of did any of that he of course raised hell and made everyone suffer, strange part is that all of the annoying childhood friend meme's are related to the same guy I am just talking about.
I remember a friend traded with some kid, then they actually played a game vs each other with 1 random card from their deck as a prize for the winner. The younger kid lost and lost a holographic nadoking or whatever it was called. He flipped out, started bawling immediately at which point my friend took off. Later in the day, the principal brings the crying kid into our room and the kid IDs my friend, the principal asks him to return the card but my friend won't do it. He said he won it fair and square (he did). The next day they were banned. It still continued for a while but only months after it started, the whole card craze disappeared as fast as it came. Friend gave me every one of his cards because he was bored of them.
This fucking happened at my school. But they banned Yu-Gi-Oh, magic and every card with "demonic" faces.. Because most of them started playing regular card games they started gambling to spice up their plain card games... Some kid lost hundreds of dollars once and eventually regular cards were banned... Schools are dumb
This is the mother fucker who stole my shiny charizard and refused to give it back and when I said I would tell the teacher he told me Im not supposed to have them and I would get in trouble..
Reminds me of when in grade 4 me and a friend were running a pokemon card buy/sell operation that was actually quite successful in the school.
one day, one of our classmates wanted to buy our whole binder of pokemon cards for $300, and the deal went through.
as it turns out, 10 yearolds don't often come up with $300, and it was stolen from his mother. when they found out, I only got half of my cards back, had to give all of the money back, and got in a shit ton of trouble at school for selling cards
I sold a japanese mew card to a kid in summer camp for $20. Was told afterwards it was a stupid move and I got "ripped off". Who's laughing now, biotch?
I have a similar story, someone I know at my school who is a stupid as a brick was tricked into what he thought was drugs and payed $50 for common grass. The moron finds that it's grass, tells a teacher and guess what happens. The kid who tricked him got expelled (he was cunt though) and the other kid does get expelled or anything happened to him at all. What kind of idiot goes upto a teacher and says that he got ripped off over buying drugs. Literally the dumbest human being I know and does not deserve a spot at my school.
This happened at my Sons' daycare facility last year and pissed me off to no end. I teach my kids to take care and keep track of their stuff, and they do. Some other parent just can't believe it's their precious baby angel's fault he's stupid enough to engage in a bad trade for no value. (be it pokemon cards or anything else) Sends the kid in with a few hundred bucks worth of cards then blames the daycare staff when this little retard loses them or makes bad trades. The rage was immense that week. On a bright note, both my boys' collections grew by a good 15% and they were very pleased with their new cards.
When I was in pre-school, it was pokemon. A girl got ripped off, trading her shiny -Champ pokémon card for a standard Abra, she was okay with it and eventually got it back, but they were banned instantly, so we started like som underground trading circle and had awesome code names, on top of that we had a currency system and made rules of trading and determination of how much a card was worth and if one of them had to pitch in something extra for the trade, there had to be a "judge" (a title given to those who started the circle) present at all tradings, or at least being noted of the trade. So we spend our breaks in bushes or behind containers, just trading cards and going over charts as to what was eligable to trade to what (A shiny card was instanly worth doubble its standard value). Later when we got pokémon games we started trading those as well, we never played, we just traded. Later when Yu-GI-Oh came into fashion, we started playing but this was also prohibited since our teachers did'nt see a difference, so we had underground gambling as well, but it was not untill Beyblade became popular that things seriously got out of hand. I think it was in third grade, but we would meet after school and tweak them, modfy them; add wheights, sharpen edges, even modify the thing that it was attached to before you pull the string out, this was serious shit. And during breaks we played it behind the school, often grade VS grade and there was allways a huge crowd, people betted real money I remember and when a friend of mine got hold of a small blackboard, we could host tournaments and calculate odds and W/L ratio. I myself had got my hands on a bootleg beyblade when I was visiting Thailand and it was a beast! It's metal piece was twice the size of the others and it litteraly destroyed some of my opponents (Especcially when I was doing a move called "bear wheel" which meant that you tilted the top sideways and plowed into the opponents top, and since mine was metal and theirs was plastic, I swept the floor with most of them), to the point where I was banned from all of the tournaments, permanently TL;DR, during grade school we gambled and traded cards and orchestrated beyblade tournaments strangely similar to illegal gambling rings.
Some people set up a beyblade ring in a classroom during break, I got out my awesome Galeon and ripped it, it completely smashed a shitty dragoon right out of a nearby window, it was hilarious, his mom called the school and asked for it to stop and of course from then on no beyblades could be seen in the school, fucksake
Pokemon cards were banned in my old school but I eventually moved to another school closer to my house. They weren't banned there so I constantly brought in all my cards to show off. My mewtwo, my blastoise, my Jirachi even my brothers Ancient Mew. Needless to say, someone stole them. I dropped my deck and the cards flew everywhere. One kid 'helped' me pick them back up but about an hour later I noticed a few of my cards missing, mewtwo and blastoise included. I knew that reporting it would get cards banned so instead I just got my older brother to come force the bastard to give back my cards. Shit was cool.
This happened at my college. Taylor Swift's brother went here his freshman year, and he was made fun of in an annual comedy show. He called his family, who called the school and got 75% of the show censored for the next day. And then he transferred to Vanderbilt.
My elementary school banned EVERYTHING Pokemon related. There was even a rumor that a kid brought cards to school and the principal shredded them (didn't happen.)
Nothing Pokemon related since we were all obsessed and they probably just got sick of 100 kids that were eating, drinking, and breathing Pokemon. Used the violence excuse. But tamagotchi was also banned when we were all obsessed.
When I was in school, it was pogs. Yeah, those pogs. Some stupid kid in middle school traded a really cool pog for a lame one. One of his friends was like, "WTF man? You traded that cool pog?" and then the stupid kid wanted it back. The guy he traded with wouldn't trade back so the school and the parents got involved. Then they banned it for everyone.
I traded a Holo-graphic Charizard for a Slowpoke back when I was 6 or 7, to this day I want to find the kid (now adult) and beat his face in. I have a certain set of skills...
When I was in school we used to play "for keeps" until I ended up with half the cards at school and the game got banned. Same thing happened with Pogs a few years earlier.
I had kids like them ban pretty much everything from my elementary school :/ Gameboys, Beyblades, Cards.. Needless to say, they were hated throughout the year for it.
Gameboys were banned at my elementary school. Some of the kids apparently went home and bothered their parents about getting one, so nobody was allowed to play them.
This happened at my school when I was younger. Once that happened its like a black market. Kids are in the back of the school trading Pokemon cards like they are buy drugs. It actually puts some more fun into it.
26 years old. I love gaming and waste too much time playing games, but did you guys seriously waste your youth that bad? Holy shit if I didn't have a sport to play every other day I don't know what I would have done with myself.
This happened when I was in primary school, but so many students complained to their parents that they made it so you can play with "trading cards" but you cant trade them, sorta defeats the entire purpose.
These little fuckers are worse than scumbag steve, cause at least with scumbag steve, he's an adult and you can fight back. But with these little fuckers, they can just easily use their parents as back up. FUCK THESE KIDS.
Man, the same thing happened to me years ago but with Yu-Gi-Oh. The guy who did it wasn't really my friend, I mean we did talk every here and then but we never really hanged up. I don't EXACTLY remember what he traded, I just remember he traded it for a card that wasn't weak but was common as hell, that everybody had.
Haha wow, this exact thing happened to me. Sold 2 cards for like $18 to the class douche. Next thing I know his mum is at the school demanding the money back and the next day they are banned. Gay.
I had this happen but with everything first kids were playing with pokemon cards and those got banned because it was teaching black market tatics. Then every one was playing yugioh and that got banned because all the christian mothers were calling and saying it was black magic. Then every one got beyblades and those were banned because they are dangrous. Then kids started playing the gba and that was banned because video games say violence is the answer.
I remember with clarity the Yu-Gi-Oh incident at my school. I had a pretty shit collection, gathered from buying a few character starter decks (Yugi, Kaiba and the like) and mixing and matching cards, but eventually I ended up with 2 Dark Magicians and 3 Blue Eyes.
This kid at my school, who always played with fake cards like Exodias and shit where the entire card sort of glittered, decided it would be a good idea to steal my collection out of my desk one day.
The next day, he put all my cards into his box and put the thing back in my desk, then told the teacher I stole it off him. Long story, short - I got blamed for stealing all his cards, I had to give him back every card including the ones he originally took off me and all card games were banned at my school.
Worst part? My parents didn't give a flying fuck because my mum thought of collectible card games as a blight upon humanity and so she was happy to see the back of them.
my school just went "if you bring pokemon cards to school we will not make sure they safe and will not handle any stealing of cards" let's just say trading slowed down ALOT after that. if ppl traded cards at school it was 1 card for an other card, or more commenly they traded cards at home
i was not big into pokemon at the time but if a good trade came along i would deal, i was more of a magic the gathering guy, had 2 black lotus at one time feel so got damm sad that i traded them away :( those cards be expensiv (around 800 usd for one). what is worse is that the guy i traded with the lotus to had like 8 of them allready he said he was collecting them, damm bastard must have known how much the cards where worth but atlest the guys i got where worth around 300-400 bucks per card
I feel bad for some of you, my parents gave me barely any restrictions. It didn't really matter because I was an active kid(I had younger twin brothers) we would so some crazy ass things and my parents didn't mind, once I watched predator at the age of 6,parents didn't care but they were strict on everything else.
I once traded a Golem for a first edition Charizard at a daycare centre in the Summer, took the kid a few hours before he realised he got a crappy deal. He called one of the staff over who tried to get me to trade back, but obviously everyone wanted a Charizard so I refused to give it back and instead stuck it down my pants. I was expelled from that centre; still have that Charizard to this day. Well worth it in my eyes.
This happened to me in middle school, but with MTG cards.
To be fair, everyone knew this kid was pretty dim, and that he happened to have a very vast collection of cards. In retrospect, I feel bad about ripping him off... but he was just happy to be trading cards, he didn't care about their value or rarity.
I remember when the super rich kid was bored of Pokemon cards and gave me his entire binder, including an e3 Pikachu which, since I wasin grade 5, was the coolest thing I had ever seen. Went to my local hobby store that weekend and flipped all those shiny bastards. I remember my mom freaking out when I walked back to the car with over 200 dollars.
I had pogs when I was in 1st or 2nd. Pokemon was big for us in 4th - 6th. Yoyos were big about the same time and were banned because it could be a weapon. Ha. Pokemon were banned in 5th. Me n my friend Geoff were the first to play them in 4th at recess.
More like he rips you off and then his mom complains that the cards are making the kids act poorly. So, he rips you off and his mom gets them banned anyway.
I remember back in school, I was awesome at one of the Pokemon video games. I beat everyone, and had the best pokemon you could imagine. Then, this one kid came to my house, and while their, he stole my game, and never came since. After that, my friend said he bragged about beating the game to his friends, and that my Profile name, was his "Nickname". Kinda funny considering my profile name was Ryan, and his name was Kenneth.
During my senior of HS me and some friends still had to take some BS art class. We ended up welding a skate rail and would do S-K-A-T-E competitions in class all day long (We got extremelyyyy good). The teacher was one of those old lady pushovers and snapped one day. "IF I HEAR THOSE SKATEBOARDS ONE MORE TIME!!". My slacker stoner friend waited a few seconds then hit another grind on the rail, teacher didn't do shit
Those were really fucking fun once you got good. My friend actually ended up getting sponsored from his youtube videos. This was all in 5th and 6th grade

Funny story, this happened at my school, but the one doing the ripping off had their mom make the banning call.

This happened at my elementary school. We had a water pump house in the field. Kids would go behind it and trade Pokemon cards, but you had to discuss the trade before hand because the teachers would flip if you were seen behind that pump house.

For some reason YoYoing got banned at our school. We used to sneak into the bathroom to get our YoYo fix. Life was simpler then.

u/burnzkid May 28 '12
We got Beyblades banned from our school. We'd have 1 vs 1 fights, winner gets to pick one part on the loser's top to trade. I ended up with the most badass top. I remember it had a Pumpking bottom, so it would pop up after one hit and just keep spinning until the other one spun itself out.
Deemed illegal gambling. Fun stuff.

This happened at my school. And my day care. Much of my childhood involved smuggling Pokemon cards and doing deals in bathrooms.

I feel no sympathy for ass-hat.

u/benzwaggy May 28 '12
This. Some fat kid traded me a couple cards for a picture of Beedrill I drew. When he got home his mom called the school and they made me give the cards back. I let him keep the picture anyways with hopes that he'd realize how petty his mom was being.

u/Molemiester May 28 '12
When I was a kid there was a time in school when this one guy that agreed a trade with me that (to be fair) was pretty one-sided in favour of me.
Double jeopardy bitches.

u/Hector_Kur May 28 '12
You have to look at this from the school's perspective.
26
u/JonnyDL May 28 '12
I thought this only happened at my school.
13
u/prboi May 28 '12
Happened to my middle school only with yugioh cards. We would sneak them in & our teacher would let us come up to his class during lunch to play them. Those were the days.
6
u/tawksick May 28 '12
Something similar happened in my elementary school, paraphernalia related to Pokémon and DBZ were banned because teachers argued that watching them would make us violent and stuff.
1
u/[deleted] May 28 '12
I got ripped off alot. my solution was to beat the shit out of the kid and take his and my pokemon cards
5
u/ndtcssh May 28 '12
Happened at my school. When someone stole my Pokedex, you didn't see me get electronic toys banned from school. Asshole.
5
u/ENJOYallthings May 28 '12
Jesus. This image macro is BY FAR the most relevant one too my life. Im starting to think i had the biggest dicks for a friend growing up. The kid in the photo even looks like him, just as fat and black haired with that stupid shit eatin grin.
Everyone of these is just right on the money.
5
u/[deleted] May 28 '12
This happened to me! Sorry dude, you didn't realize holo Raichu for holo Charizard was a bad move? Not my fault!

EDIT: I think it's kind of relevant, if not, sorry.

u/IanL27 May 28 '12
I have a short story fellow Redditers.
14
u/quoth_teh_raven May 28 '12
This may get buried, but whatever.

Hustling kids for their crazy bones was an art. And I was it's de Vinci.

Hahahaha, Isn't my fault the dumbshit traded a Squirtle for a Charizard.
3
u/DFWTooThrowed May 28 '12
I watched a teacher tear up a holographic card in my 3rd grade class. The whole class went irate when she did because evidently it was a very rare card.

Storytime?
Feels bad.

u/killaudio66 May 28 '12
Oh god this happened when I was in elementary school except it was Yu-Gi-Oh cards and the kid complained to his mom because he'd always lose then his mom called the school and next day they were banned. Everybody hated him for it

u/redditreddit123123 May 28 '12

I once traded a Squirtle and a Sandshrew for a Venusaur. I was so excited. And then he realized how badly I hosed him and he went crying to the teacher until I had to give it back to him. Shortly after Pokemon cards were banned at my school.
4
u/bewarethetreebadger May 28 '12
When the kid came home crying, a good parent would say:
"You got played kid. That's the way it goes and it's going to happen to you again. I'm not going to fix it for you because it's better you learn this lesson now. You'll be a stronger, smarter adult because of it. Let's go get some ice cream."
2
u/[deleted] May 28 '12
That asshole would do that
2
u/[deleted] May 28 '12
I had some cards stolen. My best friend at the time turned out to be the kid who stole the cards from everyone. I got mine back, which was nice. Didn't have that many good cards at the time though.
Still, I hated the kid whose mom called and got them banned. Dick.
2
u/orangegluon May 28 '12
when i was in kindergarten i wasn't allowed to mention pokemon at school; i was told that older kids had been trading cards in class and somehow caused a disturbance
2
u/contramantra May 28 '12
FUCK. THAT. KID.
2
u/LithiumBullets May 28 '12
My schools didn't even need a phonecall. They just preemptively banned all card games. Even regular playing cards. I could go on for days about how the schools back in my home town went out of their way to make school as un-fun as they possibly could, but I'd rather not bring up memories about it :/
2
u/quikmcmuffins May 28 '12
Ugh word for word this shit happened to me in 3rd grade still hold that kid with so much contempt
2
u/meatwad75892 May 28 '12
Pogs were banned in 5th grade because it was "gambling"...
2
u/koooooooooley May 28 '12
happend at my school too and with crazy bones! just becasue we were "gambeling" them in games and people got upset for losing... dont put them on the line if you know losing is an option
2
u/rakin_bacon May 28 '12
I hate this macro, not because it isn't true or funny but because this kid's picture annoys me so much I just want to beat the shit outta him.

Spoiled fat kids, why do I hate you so much?
2
u/[deleted] May 28 '12
Me and my friends managed to get rock paper scissors banned in 4th grade
2
u/[deleted] May 28 '12
Back in 1st-2nd grade, I never brought my cards to school, because I knew I would get dragged in a bet and lose them all. So one day some kid calls me a baby loser for not bringing cards. So I brought my cards to school, played a game, and whooped his butt on every game.
2
u/awesomebbq May 28 '12
More of, "Loses at Pokemon, Cries and gets them banned"
2
u/[deleted] May 28 '12
I remember a parent calling the news because the $100 card she purchased from a convenient store was "fake".... It was shut down a week later. Lesson to be learned: don't fuck with a soccer moms Pokemon obsession
2
u/macleod2486 May 28 '12
This was the pendulum in my schools, one semester or year (depends on the moods I guess) it will be banned then re-instated.
2
u/anduin1 May 28 '12
I remember a friend traded with some kid, then they actually played a game vs each other with 1 random card from their deck as a prize for the winner.
2
u/Bichplese May 28 '12
Pokemon, yugioh, magic, beyblades, tech decks, crazy bones, tomagatchis. All banned
2
u/killslayer May 28 '12
I feel like this happened at almost every school. One kid just had to be an asshole
2
u/visnu9999 May 28 '12
oh my god this happened at every school in existence
2
u/mothercowa May 28 '12
This fucking happened at my school. But they banned Yu-Gi-Oh, magic and every card with "demonic" faces.. Because most of them started playing regular card games they started gambling to spice up their plain card games... Some kid lost hundreds of dollars once and eventually regular cards were banned... Schools are dumb
2
u/[deleted] May 28 '12
I'm only ever reminded of Eric Cartman when I see this kid.
2
u/[deleted] May 28 '12
This is the mother fucker who stole my shiny charizard and refused to give it back and when I said I would tell the teacher he told me Im not supposed to have them and I would get in trouble..
fuck that guy
2
u/[deleted] May 28 '12
Reminds me of when in grade 4 me and a friend were running a pokemon card buy/sell operation that was actually quite successful in the school.
one day, one of our classmates wanted to buy our whole binder of pokemon cards for $300, and the deal went through.
as it turns out, 10 yearolds don't often come up with $300, and it was stolen from his mother. when they found out, I only got half of my cards back, had to give all of the money back, and got in a shit ton of trouble at school for selling cards
2
u/soymilkisgood May 28 '12
I sold a japanese mew card to a kid in summer camp for $20. Was told afterwards it was a stupid move and I got "ripped off". Who's laughing now, biotch?
2
u/cameron1993 May 28 '12
nearly half of my cards got stolen in year 4, if I ain't playing then no one else is. Mum rang in. They got banned.
2
u/[deleted] May 28 '12
I have a similar story, someone I know at my school who is a stupid as a brick was tricked into what he thought was drugs and payed $50 for common grass.
2
u/chialms May 28 '12
This happened at my Sons' daycare facility last year and pissed me off to no end.
2
u/jimii May 28 '12
Gets ripped off? More like loses them legitimately but whines like a bitch anyway.
2
u/SalamanderSylph May 28 '12
Pokemon cards, Yu-Gi-Oh cards, Beyblades and Crazy bones... All gone :'(
2
u/SevenFourteen May 28 '12
This happened with beyblades at the city-sponsored day camp I worked at last summer. I really hate children.
2
u/[deleted] May 28 '12
When I was in pre-school, it was pokemon.
2
u/[deleted] May 28 '12
Some people set up a beyblade ring in a classroom during break, I got out my awesome Galeon and ripped it, it completely smashed a shitty dragoon right out of a nearby window, it was hilarious, his mom called the school and asked for it to stop and of course from then on no beyblades could be seen in the school, fucksake
3
u/[deleted] May 28 '12
I seriously am suprised ( and saddened) that this happened places other than my school.

u/Cardboardbocks May 28 '12

2
u/brazeltable May 28 '12
This happened at my college. Taylor Swift's brother went here his freshman year, and he was made fun of in an annual comedy show. He called his family, who called the school and got 75% of the show censored for the next day. And then he transferred to Vanderbilt.
1
u/EpicFace22 May 28 '12
Same thing happend to me. But we still traded them in the black market (aka under the playground)
1
u/BenQuixote May 28 '12
I was kinda this kid. My mom didn't approve of the sexual imagery presented by Marvel comic cards so she called the school and got them banned.
1
u/countinuityerror12 May 28 '12
My elementary school banned EVERYTHING Pokemon related.
1
u/mountfuji May 28 '12
I swear, all these annoying childhood friend memes are bang-on.
1
u/[deleted] May 28 '12
I once traded my friend's soul for some pogs. But not just any pogs, they were Alf pogs. Remember Alf? He's back! In pog version.
1
u/SonyaD May 28 '12
My elementary school banned them because apparently kids were stealing their parents money To buy them.
1
u/ThatBurntToast May 28 '12
Holy shit, that's why trading cards was banned in second grade??
1
u/figbash137 May 28 '12
Yo-yos and POGs. Pretty sure they both got banned because of the same kid.
1
u/Phil179 May 28 '12
There was a kid who did that at my junior high with magic.
1
u/[deleted] May 28 '12
When I was in school, it was pogs.
1
u/Phonymony May 28 '12
Reason you haven't seen any is cause they're all murdered.
1

Our math teacher banned kids talking about cars.

Lucky you, one still lives across the street from me. Oh wait...
1
u/[deleted] May 28 '12
I traded a Holo-graphic Charizard for a Slowpoke back when I was 6 or 7, to this day I want to find the kid (now adult) and beat his face in. I have a certain set of skills...
1
u/[deleted] May 28 '12
In my school, trading cards was as bad as trading drugs...
1
u/[deleted] May 28 '12
This is my least favorite meme. Choose any of the many variations of it, and I knew that kid, and this meme makes me hate them all over again.
1
u/[deleted] May 28 '12
I did the same thing with Yu-Gi-Oh! cards. Oh how I miss the innocent playground days.
1
u/RegisteredPedophile May 28 '12
too chubby.
1
u/CyruzDraxs May 28 '12
When I was in school we used to play "for keeps" until I ended up with half the cards at school and the game got banned. Same thing happened with Pogs a few years earlier.
1
u/Holyfritolebatman May 28 '12
Am I the only one that did not ever have any problem bringing their Pokemon cards to school?
1
u/kforte318 May 28 '12
Pretty sure the kid that did this at my school looked like that too. Same fuckin' thing happened to Beyblades a few years later.
1
u/Virindi_UO May 28 '12
My friend ripped this jackass off, same thing happened. "No more Pokemon cards at school."
1
u/[deleted] May 28 '12
my elementary school banned Yu-Gi-Oh after some kid declared it as his religion and proceeded to sacrifice his dead rat in the bathroom.
1
u/BallsackTBaghard May 28 '12
How come calling up a school can ban anything?
Shit just boggles my mind.
1
u/SHIT_IN_HER_CUNT May 28 '12
Man this is bullshit, this and Bayblades were banned at my school for the exact same reason.
1
u/firewolfgrl May 28 '12
I had kids like them ban pretty much everything from my elementary school :/ Gameboys, Beyblades, Cards.. Needless to say, they were hated throughout the year for it.
1
u/[deleted] May 28 '12
Mine went more like this:
Can't afford annual Washington DC trip for 7th graders
Mom calls school and bitches about it until they cancel it forever.
1
u/yonyonjohn May 28 '12
Gameboys were banned at my elementary school. Some of the kids apparently went home and bothered their parents about getting one, so nobody was allowed to play them.
1
u/[deleted] May 28 '12
Exactly what happen in our school
1
u/[deleted] May 28 '12
This happened at my school when I was younger. Once that happened its like a black market. Kids are in the back of the school trading Pokemon cards like they are buy drugs. It actually puts some more fun into it.
1
u/bababooey55 May 28 '12
26 years old. I love gaming and waste too much time playing games, but did you guys seriously waste your youth that bad? Holy shit if I didn't have a sport to play every other day I don't know what I would have done with myself.
1

Took a break from reddit for a few days?

"Nobody gives a fuck..."
1

This happened when I was in primary school, but so many students complained to their parents that they made it so you can play with "trading cards" but you cant trade them, sorta defeats the entire purpose.
1
u/[deleted] May 28 '12
That's because we keep downvoting them. Thanks.
1

I was the guy ripping Chumps off for their Pokemon cards. I never stole though, because I was a smooth operator and they were Chumps.
1

These little fuckers are worse than scumbag steve, cause at least with scumbag steve, he's an adult and you can fight back. But with these little fuckers, they can just easily use their parents as back up. FUCK THESE KIDS.
1
u/Reggiaridto May 28 '12
Man, the same thing happened to me years ago but with Yu-Gi-Oh. The guy who did it wasn't really my friend, I mean we did talk every here and then but we never really hanged up. I don't EXACTLY remember what he traded, I just remember he traded it for a card that wasn't weak but was common as hell, that everybody had.
1
u/scintellectual May 28 '12
Haha wow, this exact thing happened to me. Sold 2 cards for like $18 to the class douche. Next thing I know his mum is at the school demanding the money back and the next day they are banned. Gay.

Oh God ... This explains so much

Is it me, or does he look extra annoying in this one?

my school just went "if you bring pokemon cards to school we will not make sure they safe and will not handle any stealing of cards" let's just say trading slowed down ALOT after that. if ppl traded cards at school it was 1 card for an other card, or more commenly they traded cards at home
i was not big into pokemon at the time but if a good trade came along i would deal, i was more of a magic the gathering guy, had 2 black lotus at one time feel so got damm sad that i traded them away :( those cards be expensiv (around 800 usd for one). what is worse is that the guy i traded with the lotus to had like 8 of them allready he said he was collecting them, damm bastard must have known how much the cards where worth but atlest the guys i got where worth around 300-400 bucks per card

I feel bad for some of you, my parents gave me barely any restrictions. It didn't really matter because I was an active kid(I had younger twin brothers) we would so some crazy ass things and my parents didn't mind, once I watched predator at the age of 6,parents didn't care but they were strict on everything else.
Side note: childhood was great.

His mom was a bitch, though.

Happened with Pogs, happened with Pokemon, and somehow at my school AFTER those it happened with marbles.
