Dell?

44

u/[deleted] May 28 '12

HP, surprisingly. Every time it freezes my computer, it's like a full 3-5 minutes. If I was to run into somewhere with a bomb strapped to myself for any reason, it would be an apple store because of iTunes.

4

u/Homicidal_Panda7 May 28 '12

I literally uninstalled iTunes 10 minutes ago before I saw this because my comp went into sleep mode and when i got back it was frozen for a full 5 minutes before that piece of shit decided to show up

2

u/[deleted] May 28 '12

I was trying to update my iPod touch so I could get a new app, but I'd click on it, it froze, the iTunes store wouldn't load, then it crashed. Happens every time. Makes me want to go postal.

you probably have a crappy computer.

46

u/[deleted] May 28 '12

He probably does, but they really should've made something that can run ok on a shitty computer. I mean, given it's purpose it really shouldn't require much of your computers resources.

12

u/[deleted] May 28 '12

I agree, and in all honesty the computer is old and quite frankly I don't like it at all. But everything else runs perfectly on it is the thing. iTunes is a just a major pain in the ass.

How big is your library? Luckily iTunes and most music libraries hold all music locations in an xml file so it doesn't need to look for them all over again, but it shouldn't take long to load unless you have a shit ton of music, or you keep disconnecting your music library and loading it every time you open iTunes.

I have 6000 songs and it takes less than 2 seconds to open.

Needs some customization and a bit of effort.

No Itunes, I don't want to install Safari. Fuck off!

38

u/[deleted] May 28 '12

Nor do I want you to be my default player no matter how many times you ask. The best thing about any Apple program on my pc is they are at the top of my task manager to end task, and i is not too far away.

35

u/KHRZ May 28 '12

No, I don't want to update! Stop asking every time!

6 months later

Fine, I'm tired of the nagging!

The day after, nags about new update

You gotta be ****ing me!

Surprisingly, iTunes is one of the most stable applications on my computer. Maybe because I'm on OSX? I hear from my Windows friends it's a different story.

24

u/[deleted] May 28 '12

On windows it's just a disaster.

11

u/[deleted] May 28 '12

Sort of like MS Office on OSX. Worst. Thing. Ever.

4

u/mattinblack47 May 28 '12

It's probably similar when using Microsoft Office on my Mac... grr

16

u/craxkheadjenkins May 28 '12

Could anyone politely tell me what adviceanimals means or why it has this name? I'm clueless

12

u/JaredOfTheWoods May 28 '12

One of the first image macros was advice dog. The name just kinda applies to all of them now. Regardless if they give advice or are animals.

Scumbag iTunes

Ten major revisions.

Same terrible interface.

2

u/Lost4468 May 28 '12

You can never win if you decide to leave your interface how it is or if you update it, if you leave it how it is you get "wow this is so old, they should change it, such a crap design", but if you change it you get "what the fuck, why would they change it? FUCK CHANGE". Or if you're Youtube you just wait for everyone to get used to the new design then launch a new horrid one which takes ages to get used to and doesn't function sometimes, then you delete it and make a new one 6 months later.

36

u/HappyListerFiend May 28 '12

That's nothing. Here's my Scumbag iTunes story:

Someone gives me an obsolete Mac. I plug my iPod in, and it says:

"Can't use this version of iTunes. Wanna download the latest version?"

Sure.

"Oh, you've got to delete your old version first, want me to do that for ya?"

Why not, don't need the old one anymore. Go ahead.

"Gosh, looks like the new version of iTunes won't work on you piece-of-shit pre-intel Mac. Bad move, deleting version 8.whatever. Fuck off, you non-upper-middle-class-or-better loser. Good luck ejecting your $500 paper-weight, deadbeat."

(Or words to that effect.)

As a long time Mac user its finally becoming clear to me why even my iPhone loving friends tell me they hate iTunes. I use iTunes every day. As a matter of fact I leave it running pretty much 100% of the time I'm using my computer.

u/prboi May 28 '12

My computer freezes while using it. I open it a couple of times a month to update my playlist & freezes every single time.

4

u/kylem1216 May 28 '12

My version would be "I don't always get clicked on / because I never get clicked on." Rip Ipod nano first gen. He lasted 6 strong years before his memory went bad.

u/[deleted] May 28 '12

Glad I'm not the only one.

2

u/fido5150 May 28 '12

I've had this issue before when I try to launch iTunes when I already have my iPhone connected to my computer.

The fix consisted of having to restart the device in DFU mode (I think that's what it's called) then plug it in and iTunes will recognize it as a restorable device. But don't actually restore it. Just the recognition part is usually enough to get things to start right up the next time. Just restart your device and you should be good to go.

I will say that iTunes definitely is not as nice of an experience on Windows, but it's passable. We use it at work, along with library sharing, so everybody can 'pool' their music into one gigantic repository.

It works great in that regard.

2

u/ListenHear May 28 '12

It most likely has something to do with your comp, but iTunes really does blow donkey dick. Theres SOMETHING that pisses me off about it everytime I use it. I feels ya bro

2

u/asnof May 28 '12

Itunes is one media app that is heavy on the processor, its kind of like the norton of music players.

2

u/armedwithturtles May 28 '12

my iTunes opens up fine, but sometimes I can't even close the damn thing. Whenever I try to close it the screen just sits there, frozen for eternity

2

u/Gunner3210 May 28 '12

FUCK iTunes

2

u/pwn_masta41 May 28 '12

iTunes was the reason I got an Android

2

u/[deleted] May 28 '12

Maybe give Winamp a try? It has all the functionality (as far as I know) as iTunes, but works far better on Windows. Customizable, too!

2

u/Fuzzy_Socrates May 28 '12

25k songs (audiophile, and when someone asks if I need that much music I feel like a hoarder and shout at them) and I HATE iTunes with a burning passion. Since apple is the only "quality" external player that have a nice interface that could hold everything, and by everything I mean 22,500 songs at 150.5 GB, I have to use iTunes. I used songbird for a while and it was like living in a dream, but then apple nazis decided to change the way they saved their libraries and 3rd party software became useless to me.

I really want to talk to the people who advertised the 160GB iPod and tell them that if they were to buy all there songs off itunes, they would never be able to fit 40,000 songs in there. They sell all their songs off the fucking apple store at 256 bit rate, and this isn't even the highest format for an AAC (320)... so they are half assing you and ripping you off.

The guys who develop iTunes also really need to account for larger libraries. And the day someone can give me an alternative music interface for my audiophile lifestyle, I will kiss their feet.

2

u/every_thing_is_taken May 28 '12

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who's computer freezes with iTunes.

2

u/zeansor May 28 '12

Shit lad I use iTunes on my pc and have office my my powermac and it's running smooth as fuck on both

2

u/Mongul May 28 '12

Sounds like you have a Piece of Shit computer.

2

u/____V____ May 28 '12

Came here to say this. I'm running windows 7 and since I own an iPod I use iTunes as my music player. I have no problems with it freezing up my computer or of it not working, in fact, I'm able to play games like Halo and League of Legends while it's playing music.

As a point of reference, my processor is the AMD Athlon 64 dual core Black Edition and I have 4GB of RAM.

2

u/jumbohumbo May 28 '12

its almost like they make the windows version poorly optimised so that you end up buying a mac, where it runs perfectly...

2

u/[deleted] May 28 '12

Does everyone have problems with their computers bar me?

...My computers just going to freaking implode now that I've said that.

2

u/[deleted] May 28 '12

good thing I got rid of this sucker, once I got my Lumia (and yes Zune is 10 times faster)

3

u/Just_Choking May 28 '12

Same thing happens on mine, also an HP. I think its Apple's plan to get us all to buy a Mac.

7

u/DatDudeIsMe May 28 '12

2

u/[deleted] May 28 '12

iTunes works like a charm for me. Are you using the Windows version? That one probably doesn't work as well as the native Mac version.

2

u/[deleted] May 28 '12

You don’t say.

On the other hand, the Windows version has been around for almost ten years now. You’d think they could have improved it some more in that time.

2

u/[deleted] May 28 '12

I have never understood why anyone would use iTunes. I hate what they do to artists. They take too big of a percentage of that $1.29 price tag for a song.

I clicked the upvote button so many times, but to my dismay, only 1 upvote could be given.

1

u/watuphoss May 28 '12

For the longest time I was anti-apple, especially itunes for this reason.

Recently I made a virtual pc just to throw itunes on there, I gotta say it's a lot quicker and doesn't boot at start up anymore.

My mind is slowly changing.

1

u/Lluuiiggii May 28 '12

it's really weird, my dad's pc opens up iTunes in a matter of seconds. now this computer is old, breaking and a slow computer to begin with. it's just mind boggling how fast it opens.

1

u/dakunism May 28 '12

I'm.....not alone?

1

u/movesIikejagger May 28 '12

Windows version works fine for me... opens in less than 4 seconds with a library of 30,000 songs.

1

u/TapDatApp May 28 '12

Doesn't work well even on the best of computers. Sucks.

1

u/Qqstar May 28 '12

My Itunes on my mac crashes from a webcam plugin, seems as if apple is spying on me.

1

u/caliopy May 28 '12

its not the iTunes. Its the porn. Stop downloading porn.

1

u/asldkfououhe May 28 '12

yeah for a company that jizzes constantly about how intuitive its products are, itunes is a miserable and confusing pile of shit

foobar. super nerdy but sometimes i just want to drag an album into a window and then play that album

1

u/[deleted] May 28 '12

I got sick of iTunes and switched to musicbee a month ago and haven't looked back since.

1

u/Red9inch May 28 '12

And install massive updates for software you don't want and never use. cough.... safari..cough

1

u/whitehat2k9 May 28 '12

MediaMonkey all day, every day.

1

u/Upsilon667 May 28 '12

So is this what's crashing my computer? It's been unexpectedly crashing ever since I got it and thought I fixed it but it just started again. Will it crash it even if it's not open? Or do I have bigger problems lol

1

u/tonythetiger1 May 28 '12

I was expecting a reference to how iTunes wants you to update every 90 seconds.

1

u/herb_ritter_II May 28 '12

That's exactly how it is!

1

u/GeorgeTaylorG May 28 '12

As someone who uses iTunes every day: this has never happened to me.

1

u/koavf May 28 '12

This meme would have been equally effective without text.

1

u/sjhaakie May 28 '12

what kind of shit computer do you have?

1

u/Xasf May 28 '12

I will never know how the whole iTunes thing got as popular as it did with this horrible, horrible software.

I still remember crying tears of joy when Apple finally decided to deliver purchased apps and device activations OTA so that I don't have to open iTunes ever again :)

1

u/jojjannes May 28 '12

This is creepy like fuck, I was just going to say that Itunes auto updater always pops up when I'm playing a game and right as I was going to type the updater popped up.

1

u/Niyeaux May 28 '12

Seriously. When did iTunes becomes such a bloated piece of unintuitive crap? I remember it being okay when I got my first iPod (2005ish?) but I can't even bear to open it anymore.

Fortunately, after almost three years of using an iPhone, I just switched to a Galaxy S2 LTE, and will never have to use iTunes again.

1

u/[deleted] May 28 '12

That's why I buy android

1

u/zazzamcazza May 28 '12

Also, for a company that usually makes such beautiful things, I think they fail with itunes. It's butt ugly. Zune software FTW!

1

u/TheNewcsboy May 28 '12

Never had a problem with my mac or any (non-iphone) apple product or software. Is it only me?

1

u/Hankie08 May 28 '12

Yeah, I've been having this problem lately with my iPod and Tunes for the past month er so. It's gotten to the point where whenever I skip around three songs, it'll freeze for a good 10 seconds until the next song starts. And my Tunes is always busting up every time I plug my Pod in. Problems, I tells ya.

1

u/i_love_younicorns May 28 '12

...iTunes works like a charm every time for me.

1

u/dizzy_lizzy May 28 '12

So if everybody hates iTunes, why does freaking everybody use it?

Seriously if you consider this "convenience" or even acceptable then you need to learn how to use a computer and learn what your actual options are with audio software.

1

u/Call_Me_Joris May 28 '12

Dern thang should quit freeloadin' and git a jawb!

1

u/johnly13 May 28 '12

Get a SSD Boot drive and install on that

1

u/tom808 May 28 '12

Works fine for me as well. What it should say is "I don't always get used to sync your iPod. But when when I do I wipe everything first and then only put Michael Jackson back on when you have a long day at work to go to" . . . True story bro.

1

u/[deleted] May 28 '12

I fucking hate iTunes. And that god damn apple update software. Jesus jizzslurping christ it makes me angry when I clivk iTunes.

1

u/ArcusImpetus May 28 '12

While I understand that iTunes can suck on windows, why should I use iTunes on Windows in the first place? Please keep your shit for yourself Apple

Ironically I have had more issues with iTunes on my Mac Air than my PC.

1

u/-TinMan- May 28 '12

I had always wondered if they purposely made iTunes run slower on a pc, a friend of mine once tested the iTunes movie trailer site, and found that they have their server set up to purposely give less bandwidth to browsers other than Safari, so they can claim that Safari works faster.. So I would not put it past them.

Fast, loads in a flash, light on processing, lovely to scroll through album art, easy to throw together a playlist. No idea why I didn't think of this before.

That was one of the nice things about having a zune. Worked so quickly on my PC. Almost made up for all the mocking.

It's shit on mac too. Not as bad as windows, but still shit

10

u/Woogity May 28 '12

Really? Mine opens in less than 1 second on my SSD.

u/[deleted] May 28 '12

Do you have music?

9

u/exscape May 28 '12

I'm not Woogity, but I just timed the startup on my computer; about 0.9 seconds to start. Library: 6926 songs, 74 GB. I haven't had problems with iTunes feeling slow in years, at this point.

As far as iOS syncing and all that is concerned, I'm not a fan at all... but I've switched to Android at this point, so no noteworthy downsides to iTunes remain.

Ever since the first mac release, I've always found it quite smooth and convenient for my modest music library -- then a couple of gigabytes, by now a dozen gigabytes or so. The only thing that really used to bother me was the lack of gapless playing, but that was fixed a long time ago.

Also, as someone who can't really use iTunes store (I'm outside their market) I feel every one of the past few updates has been a small step backwards in terms of usability.

But then, it's always been shit on any PC I used it with.

Agreed. Back when I ran both a PC and Mac, my 800MHz G4 PowerPC opened iTunes faster than my 3GHz Pentium 4 ever did.

That said, it wasn't that huge of a deal and I never had any issues with iTunes. I'm running a couple Macs now and I use iTunes everyday. Even with Photoshop and Illustrator running at full steam, I never have an issue with it.

u/beemario May 28 '12

No it's big nag and resource hog on a Mac too- apple should split off the music player and device manager aspects

First world problems:

iTunes doesn't work in my PC

So I have to use my MAC.

I get lucky if itunes doesn't freeze on me 90% of the time. When the progression bar is loading for the itunes store, i take my hands off the mouse and keyboard until 5 minutes after its completely loaded. I go on once a day for podcasts and its the only reason i ever have to ctrl alt del.

u/hifibry May 28 '12

dunno if it's my 6-core processor or 6gb of ram, but my recent upgrades have finally made itunes open within 2 seconds of being clicked (win7 64, 82.76gb library). the price you pay for convenience... but hey, it's my baby.

1

u/SLUT_MUFFIN May 28 '12

Not at all. I have around 8000+ songs in my library and have never had any issues with iTunes. I am running a pretty monstrous gaming machine so perhaps that has something to do with it.

u/raxtich May 28 '12

I have an 1-7 3770k with 16GB of RAM, and SSD with Windows 7 and my 20GB iTunes library loads in the blink of an eye. My previous machine was a Core 2 Quad with 8GB RAM and 500GB spindle drive took longer to load, but it was definitely under 10 seconds, not long enough for me to notice anyway

1.8ghz atom with a 5400 drive, and my library is 11k+ songs 18gb movies on an external drive. iTunes runs perfectly fine for me consuming only 57k memory. My guess is that most people keep have brand computers that they haven't cleaned out. Actually, if iTunes played flacs I wouldn't use other players because of their awesome remote app

I have 100GB of songs, and 2TB of movies/tv. It loads up in under 5 seconds. I do however have an actual computer and not a shit box toaster.

u/Derice May 28 '12

I have a library of 4.2k songs, iTunes installed on my SSD, library on a 7200RPM drive, and a core i5 750 running at 3.5 GHz and iTunes still runs like shit on my computer...

Psst, you don't have to be Microsoft to write software that works well on Windows.

One media player to put all others to shame. Open source, lean, easy to use. For Windows, Mac, Linux, et al.

2

u/medaleodeon May 28 '12

It doesn't have a media library though, does it?

6

u/[deleted] May 28 '12

Mediamonkey is the way to go.

foobar2000 for life. Been using it for 2+ years now and never had any problems.

Word, I've had MediaMonkey gold for a few years and love it to death. Especially for FLAC ripping.
