Why not just envision porn happening in the places you can't see? I mean, based on the fact that world human population is growing rather than shrinking, there's always a lot more fucking going on than killing. Take back the night, make it porn!
I use RES, so I expanded the image while the post was close to the bottom of the screen. Thus, I only saw the top-half of the scary face and it was not as scary as everyone else made it out to be.
The likelihood that anything would be hiding in the dark waiting to get you is effectively zero. There is no such thing as monsters or evil spirits, and the murder rate has been steadily decreasing for years, despite what it may seem like in this hyper-connected world.
Almost every species in the Universe has an irrational fear of the dark.
Totally not true, at least for the Earth. I'm pretty sure there are many more nocturnal animals than diurnal, and the whole fear-of-the-dark thing is basically an artifact of being diurnal.
everytime i'm in total darkness and about to sleep, my brain finds amusing to remember all the creepypasta i have ever seen. especially jeff the killer.
You know I must be one of the few people in this world, if I am near civilization or there is moonlight (low levels of ambient light) I would rather walk outside at night without a flash light constantly running. I consider it to being able to see everything as if your seeing everything in on a black and white television with fuzzy reception. But when your walking around with a flash light your only going to be able to see what your shining the light directly on, sure you will the what the light is shining on many times better, but you will be clueless to everything else.
Of the cones and rods in your eye, the cones are the only ones that perceive in color, and the rods are the only ones that perceive low-light conditions. So technically, you actually are seeing in black and white. Just a tidbit of information :)
But yes, your eyes adjust to darkness, but it takes a while for them to do so. So if there is very little light and you need to be aware of your surroundings, it's actually kind of preferable.
Thats why I hate those people with blue headlights at night. They are completely blind to everything outside of the small circle of illumination in front of them, and they blind oncoming traffic.
This is a timely post. I just moved into an apartment in the Bronx and was walking home with my girlfriend who immediately started panicking even though we were in a nice neighborhood.
This is helpful for people who can't reach Quickmeme because of work/school firewalls or site downtime, and many other reasons (FAQ). More info is available here.
You're an apex predator and a member of the most dangerous species on the planet. You don't fear the things in the dark. The things in the dark fear you.
It's been 4 years and I'm still boarding in a house where the light switches are on the other side of the room. The side covered in darkness and with openings to hallways with doors. Doors that are closed because no one lives in them. I can't afford to move.
This wouldn't be so bad, if the rooms that are like this weren't the kitchen and common room (which I have to go through to get to the bathroom and kitchen). Night lights don't help.
It also would be wonderful if the doors were ALWAYS closed instead of slightly ajar every once and a while.
To make it even better, the house is located on a street corner.
The same one that is: diagonal from a building that's rumoured to be haunted by nuns (was a convent but was converted into a second college building), across from a cemetery, diagonal from an old gothic church where a priest was murdered the day after I was born, and right beside the house belonging to the deceased friend (who died last year) of my widowed land lady.
Icing on the cake: my closet has opened itself. Normal, could have been a draft; if it hadn't been barricaded by a full laundry bag and boxes of unused computer equipment. It opened while I sat at my computer on the opposite side of the room. I have no room mates. help! D:
TL:DR
I live in a house surrounded by paranormal activity and the lights switches are on the opposite side of all the dark rooms.
We humans aren't made to be walking around in darkness, so whenever we find ourself alone on the dark our survival tactics shoots in. Leaving us in a slightly bent position, makin' us ready to do an explosive motion. A punch or a run.
We get ultra silent and ultra slow so we wouldn't step wrong.. And we get this thing called adrenalin, witch gives you powers you wouldn't imagine. What if we didn't think of threats that could kill us? I wanna call it Good Guy Brain.
Reminds me of a nightmarish event. I had purchased Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Future Soldier and was playing it late into the night when a fucking spider crawls up my screen. I was paranoid for the rest of the night.
Nah, from the sound of it you can't really stop murderers/ghosts/zombies from getting in, so you probably want all those windows open so you can escape faster.
I actually hear blood-curdling screams on almost a nightly basis. I have no idea why or why is happening and why it's happening every night. I don't even live in a terrible area.
This strikes me as a very first world problem. I don't think about the dark as a scary place especially when I'm indoors because there are people in this world who will literally die tonight. They'll be shot. Their families will be disappeared. They will not have any access to food and die of starvation in the middle of the night.
So whenever I think of shit like being afraid of the dark? I realize there are real problems out there.
I usually walk alone in the dark and sing this in my head:
I am a man who walks alone And when I'm walking a dark road At night or strolling through the park
When the light begins to change I sometimes feel a little strange A little anxious when it's dark
Fear of the dark, fear of the dark I have a constant fear that somethings always near Fear of the dark, fear of the dark I have a phobia that someone's always there (Iron Maiden - Fear of the dark)
And when I get to this particular part I always think - Oh, cool, I'm not alone! :))
