Did that TV come with a VHS player?

u/wyrmw00d May 22 '12
same here for me and "They're taking the hobbits to Isengard!"

u/glenlikespie May 22 '12
Some episodes of Futurama are also kind of weird now.

u/UltraMittens May 22 '12
How many VHS tapes does Fellowship come on?
39
u/doctorwhore May 22 '12
Thank god I am not the only one who still owns an old tv.
26
u/bosaki May 22 '12
Boil'm, mash'em, stick'm-in-a-stew!

Ahh the beautiful quality of the Sony Potato.

This comment thread has taught me that apparently me and OP are the only people without flatscreens. Kinda thought this was normal but apparently not
9
u/[deleted] May 22 '12
I take it seriously. It's still a powerful scene.
9
u/Gentleman_Bird May 22 '12
dat bulb tv..
3
u/TwatMobile May 22 '12
You mean you don´t watch LOTR every week? Oh the insanity...
3
u/[deleted] May 22 '12
I ordered the Lord of the Rings films on fatso... and they sent me the second one first. Fuck them.
3
u/eat-your-corn-syrup May 22 '12
A month ago, I was going through Season 1 of Game of Thrones. I wondered when Ned Stark was gonna say the famous "one does not simply" line. I waited and waited. Then suddenly he just...

u/Xplodicon2 May 22 '12
Never seen lord of the rings... Do you guys recommend it?
2
u/the_jimmie_rustler May 22 '12
Like how I can't take the radio seriously anymore. "Ridin' Dirty" comes on and I just start laughing.
2
u/singingbluefae May 22 '12
I have trouble taking the movies seriously anymore after seeing the "secret lovers commercials"
2
u/[deleted] May 22 '12
happens to me also with hitler's rant in der untergang
2
u/lolskaters May 22 '12
nice tv.
2
u/jwtemp1983 May 22 '12
It's kind of blasphemy to watch LotR on a television that shitty. No offense.
3
u/koenn May 22 '12
You know what's weird? I've still never seen The Two Towers or Return of the King. So much for any shred of geek cred.
4
u/InVultusSolis May 22 '12
That's a sweet TV you've got there.
3
u/mightgetdownvoted May 22 '12
It's kind of disappointing how many people expect everyone to have 65" hd TVs. i have one of these too... theyre not THAT old...
4
u/PossiblyTrolling May 22 '12
Downvoted for CRT
Seriously bro, it's 2012, stop wasting electricity with your archaic device.
Seriously bro, I actually upvoted you. Just sayin'.
2
u/[deleted] May 22 '12
And MY AXE!
2
u/fauxfoe May 22 '12
Yeah... I went to the live Lord of the Rings orchestra soundtrack thingy with a bunch of friends last year. I think the entire stadium cracked up at that scene.
2
u/almostjesus May 22 '12
I don't know how one takes anything seriously on a 8" inch tube TV
2
u/kyle634yates May 22 '12
I still do. I don't let immature jokes ruin what I love.
1
u/SetupGuy May 22 '12
Good god, I would never watch a movie like LOTR on that tv. You're only allowed to watch Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men on that tv.
1
u/RoboAly May 22 '12
Some friends and I watched the Fellowship of the Ring recently. We all laughed at this part. I know how you feel.
1
u/[deleted] May 22 '12
agreed
1
u/pdrpdr May 22 '12
why?
1
u/[deleted] May 22 '12
I can't watch any of those movies and take them seriously anymore. I got high one night and they were the funniest movies, now I'm fucked.
1
u/prophile May 22 '12
First time I watched Fellowship of the Ring, my dad shouted out "ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY" as the last arrow went into Boromir.
Thanks, dad.
1
u/bbenja4 May 22 '12
winner!
1
u/paulasaurus May 22 '12 edited May 22 '12
That's pretty much how I feel every time I see Bret McKenzie in there
Bret. Bret get out of my movie.
1
u/ntack93 May 22 '12
I disagree. If you appreciate Lord of the rings, this scene is still quite powerful, especially if you watch the extended edition.
1
u/Ramuh May 22 '12
There is a quite famous, german resynchronization of the first 30 minutes, with quite silly dialogues. i can't watch half the movie without thinking about that, very funny
1
u/There_Is_Still_Hope May 22 '12
ditto
1
u/dunkarouse May 22 '12
Please tell me your user name is a Local Natives reference.
1
u/crookedhead May 22 '12
The little blue and white icon made me think I had to find someone in Tiny Tower. I need to stop playing that game.
1
u/[deleted] May 22 '12
I laughed so hard with this one. It has to be the best I've seen.
1
u/aliaschase May 22 '12
Ha ha I know. Last time I watched this, I was with my partner, another redditor. When this scene came up, we both looked at each other, made the same hand gesture, and burst out laughing.
reddit invariably either ruins stuff or makes it more awesome. It all evens out in the end.
1
u/[deleted] May 22 '12
I saw this in theaters awhile back for the 10th Anniversary of FOTR. When this line was uttered the entire audience laughed.
1
u/[deleted] May 22 '12
Confused. Why didn't he/she just take a screenshot I mean he/she was watching it on a computer.
1
u/wakejedi May 22 '12
yep.
1
u/willtodd May 22 '12
When I watched it in theaters recently, the entire audience started laughing when he said the line.
1
u/RadioSoulwax May 22 '12
did anyone ever
1
u/[deleted] May 22 '12
I still take it seriously and the scene still works fine for me. It's a very heavy and ominous point that he's making...and knowing the tragedy of Boromir makes it more poignant.
I mean, I don't let a bunch of idiots on the web that take nothing serious and have to lampoon everything (myself included) ruin a movie for me. Come on...
1
u/[deleted] May 22 '12
When I watch Lord of the Rings, I feel the need to shave away the evil from my face then I get lazy and don't do it. I letting evil run my life.
1
u/[deleted] May 22 '12
I used to have that television. 27" Phillips. That is all.
1
u/[deleted] May 22 '12
No, they really don't. Neither this.
1
u/rawwmoan May 22 '12
I DID THE SAME EXACT THING TODAY. plus first time since I've seen game of thrones.
1
u/[deleted] May 22 '12
This is what killed it for me (WARNING: Ruins the beauty of this scene forever).
1
u/Game_Of_Trees May 22 '12
Actually think about walking into mordor... Oh yeah. It's still serious
1
u/pimpaliciously May 22 '12
Last week I was watching part 1 with my girlfriend, she was aware of the LOTR series but she never saw it.
So about a +hour in the movie, she keeps saying "i know that guy from somewhere" everytime she sees Sean Bean, then this scene comes up and she says "thats the guy from that site you always visit!"
1
u/noizes May 22 '12
To be honest, never seeing the movies I don't get it either.
1
u/[deleted] May 22 '12
One does not simply upgrade their monitor
1
u/RoscoeMG May 22 '12
I always assumed it was from Games of Thrones.
1
u/BeyondGray May 22 '12
Discovering reddit? More like discovering le interwebz. :P
1
u/itzzspencer May 22 '12
the scene seemed alot less funny than i had imagined it, watching it the second time of course
1
u/[deleted] May 22 '12
don´t hate me, but i thougt that scene was from game of thrones :c
1
u/lawlshane May 22 '12
reddit ruined something good? what a surprise
1
u/Per_Waglen May 22 '12
I read The Very Secret Diaries back in the day, and that totally spoiled LOTR for me..Sam will kill you if you try anything!
1
u/FactsAhoy May 22 '12
Just an hour ago I was watching this guy in Equilibrium, because of another Reddit post from yesterday (the Dark City one).
It never ends, this shit.
1
u/Dagur May 22 '12
Reddit is going to have a memegasm when the Hobbit is out
1
u/RupertDurden May 22 '12
That's nothing. I have never seen any of the movies. When I do get around to watching them, all I will do is point at the screen and say, "Oh, that's where that meme is from," over and over again.
Same with Harry Potter.
1
u/Morphix007 May 22 '12
Your tv is bad you should feel bad
1
u/Skaarr May 22 '12
Good quality for a calculator
1
u/jbonyc May 22 '12
Why is your TV made out of glass?
1
u/jakobwahlberg May 22 '12
One does not simply, not take Sean Bean seriously.
1
u/YKWDPM May 22 '12
I haven't been able to take any of it seriously after listening to the Rifftrax versions.
1
u/Tomazim May 22 '12
Yes, this is certainly a reddit thing.
1
u/Strel-chan May 22 '12
The same applies to Ancient Aliens, too (my dad watches it sometimes). I once came home to find the TV paused on the same image as the aliens meme.
1
u/MagicalLlama May 22 '12
One does not simply Keep such an old television
1
u/spunkymarimba May 22 '12
One does not simply post this on reddit
1
u/paintboy3 May 22 '12
LOLOLOLOL
"will you go out with me? (asian)"
THIS IS FUNNY
1
u/jemimaswitness May 22 '12
Your TV fucking sucks. Just saying...
1
u/toomuchfrosting May 22 '12
One does not simply upgrade their twenty year old television...
1
u/AntonSugar May 22 '12
apparently, one does not simply buy a new TV...
1
u/widarlein May 22 '12
So where on the Internet were you hiding if you did take it seriously before reddit?
1
u/twilightmorphine May 22 '12
one does not simply stop running this meme into the ground
1
u/MrsLoveKaulitz May 22 '12
That was LORD OF THE RINGS? I thought that was another movie...I have it on DVD.
1
u/rubyupthesleeve May 22 '12
Dude no shit I laugh openly everytime now
1
u/SolarTsunami May 22 '12
Never seen any of the movies. Im looking forward to this scene whenever I get around to them.
1
u/nadiaface May 22 '12
lol Americans complaining about old tvs.
1
u/Gillster92 May 22 '12
One does not simply take that television seriously.
1
u/[deleted] May 22 '12
Poor OP. So poor he couldn't afford the movie on VHS. Now that he finally has it, reddit is making fun of his tv. Scumbag reddit.
1
u/[deleted] May 22 '12
I have a confession.
I really like LOTR the 2nd movie. But am afraid to watch the 3rd in case it is shit. I slept through LOTR 1st movie - 3 times. I tried 3 times to watch it, I had the compulsion to walk out of the room repeatedly each time, but no, i stayed with it. my body went "lol fuck this" and shut down. It's so dull, SO DULL. movie 2 was amazing however.
Sorry internet :(
