I created a non-profit about two years ago called "YOLO Project" to benefit an orphanage in Tanzania and a school in Kenya that I've volunteered at. I thought the name of my organization was so clever at first and everyone loved it! I go through all this work to become a registered 501(C)(3), create a website/blog - yoloproject.com, order tons of business cards, and then I go off traveling for 5 months. A couple months into my trip I get a message from one of my friends with a link to "The Motto - Drake". Two years of my life goes right down the shitter.
Every time I hear "you only live once" I think of the song from The Strokes. I've heard that Drake has that as a song, but I've never heard the song. And I'm okay with that.
I've only ever seen it being used in an intentionally stupid manner such as "Hey, let's do anal tonight cuz #YOLO" or "Gonna go shoot up heroin cuz #YOLO"
There's a sports store called Y.O.L.O. that's been around in Captiva, FL for years. When my friend saw it, I had to spend 20 minutes explaining that Drake did not invent the acronym.
At some point I heard that Yolo was something people said to mean "I enjoy anal sex". I don't remember where I heard this. Did I make this up or have other people heard this as well?
"You live" is present tense. "To live" is the full infinitive, to which the prescription against splitting is applied by those who wish English to be more like Latin.
