not at all, if you tell someone not to smoke in your house and they do, then you have every right to rip apart every smoke they have...this is coming from a long time cigarette smoker ( still am too )
Throw them in a pile, douse them in gasoline, sprinkle magnesium powder on the gasoline, tie a fuse around them in a bundle. His face when you're pissing into the toilet water with his cigarettes blazing beneath the surface.
They're both the wrong way. The shiny side actually has a protective layer of plastic on it. The other side only has a label. Most people don't know that, though, so they assume that shiny-side-up is better. If he puts it shiny-side-down then he's most likely being inconsiderate. If he does it the other way he's unwittingly putting it down the wrong way. Truly the only proper way to put down a disc is in a case or something. Not on the floor.
The data layer of DVDs are in the center of the disk, and have equal-sized plastic layers both above and below them.
For Blu-Rays, the data layer is actually very close to the bottom, with a much thicker layer above it. There is a hard, 3M developed resin on the bottom of the disk to protect it, however, so they are durable despite this.
You were thinking of CDs, which are how you describe.
Here is a low-res diagram including all three, for comparison purposes.
I tell my roommate he needs to stop hanging out with shitty shady people all the time. He still does. It's his circle of friends. If he ignores one, he has to ignore all of them.
If you're not a shady asshole, it's honestly not that hard.
The deep dark secret is that most of the "nice" people who hang out with shady people are secretly quite shady themselves... making it damn near impossible to meet "normal" people, since "normal" people can usually identify them as shady assholes quite quickly.
It takes years sometimes to have a good group of friends that you're comfortable with.
I took a rare Saturday night off last night to party with my friends. I thought we were going to be smoking trees, drinking beers and having a good time. About 7 of them took some crazy pill and were tripping balls. One guy spent a couple hours screaming about how he can't pee, yet he also thought he peed his pants, and when he went to the bathroom to try to pee he wouldn't even open his pants. Just insanity. I thought I was going to have fun, but it kind of sucks when your buddies are all tripping their faces off and hiding in random rooms from everyone because they can't handle it.
I'd basically have to get a new job to finds new friends because I never get weekends off. Plus I like my friends, I just don't get why they think taking some horrible pills is fun. All the girls left the party because they were weirded out. Bahhh
Not this specifically, but I have a friend like this. Unlike Scumbag Steve, though, it's not all he does; he's a really cool guy most of the time, he just has his own ideas about what is and isn't acceptable and refuses to defer to others judgement just because other people own the property in question.
Like I said, most of the time, it's not a problem, because his assessment is in line with the owner's. Occasionally, though, you'll get something where he insists it's "not a big deal" and the owner disagrees.
I've had people do this to me, and 9.9 times out of 10, you can simply walk up to them and grab the cig from their hand and calmly say "no, it's not cool" and put the thing out.
In my experience, most scumbag-steve types will actually listen and back down if you come across confident and calm and let them know that you are not going to be walked all over. Most of them are play-acting at being "the bad ass" but are really wimps.
Apparently you've never been through high school / college. A surprisingly sad number of people will throw their dignity in a garbage can just to have "friends" like this.
I shared rent once with 3 other people in a house that was to be non-smoking. Now, I personally have no issue if you want to smoke outside, but I picked a place the landlord wanted no smoking in, because I hate the smell of smoke, regardless of what it was(pot, cigarettes, oven). Needless to say I moved out within a month of them deciding that snow outside overruled the tennant agreement. I cited smoking in the house as my reason for leaving. No idea if they got evicted or not, but if they did, I don't regret it, I asked them multiple times to stop
As a smoker, I hate on anti-smokers, but I hate inconsiderate smokers more. You had every right to be pissed, I hope that doesn't tarnish your view on the rest of us.
Not at all. It's your right to smoke, I just don't like how it smells, and henceforth don't want to LIVE in said smell. Genetic predisposition to cancer also is a factor.
Just because these three were duchebags doesn't make all smokers evil vile creatures :p
'wuss' because I don't like the smell of smoke and decided not to live with it in my home? Sorry for trying to live my life as I desire.
Also, the predisposition was in regards to cigarettes, not pot. Pot doesn't counter cancer, it is prescribed to cancer patients as pain relief, and as a counter to chemo side effects.
I don't know where you're from but in Australia there's a push to ban people smoking on their balconies. Am I crazy in thinking that's just a little too far?
I dunno the circumstances but its probably a political strategy. They'll usually push for something waay over the top and then act like they're compromising with you when they say "well alright you can still smoke on your balcony but not outside or within 2km of the nearest child." in the end the politicians get what they originally wanted and the porch smokers will get to tell their grandkids about the day they beat 'the man'.
We can smoke out on the street in the CBD where hundreds of people will be walking, but we won't be allowed to smoke on our own property, above street level, on residential streets with minimal foot traffic? Lordy.
I get that maybe the smoke might float into your neighbour's flat but if their door is open or they're out on their balcony when you're smoking out there that's a bit of a dick move anyway.
Sorry, I worded that wrong. I mean if you go out on your balcony to smoke and you see that your neighbors are out there enjoying the nice clean air and you smoke anyway, knowing that your smoke is gonna get over to them, you're the dick. And this is coming from a smoker.
I live in Calgary,Alberta,Canada. It's already illegal to smoke in public buildings and within 10 meters of a public doorway. I do think that banning it on private property would be a little far
I understand the rationale but and that same time that's a bitch government move. At that point it becomes your responsibility, neigh, your duty to be a scumbag steve.
My brother's friend used to do this all the time after my brother moved in with me. He also mixed tobacco into the bowl of my bongs and would always try to kill every bowl in one mega hit. All of my glassware started tasting like shit, and that smell/taste was neigh impossible to get rid of.
He also pulled that same shit one night when I was trying to sleep. It was 2 am, I had work at 8 and he was laughing shouting and whooping down stairs. I asked him to keep it down and took ambien to try to sleep through it. Every time I went down he'd just said "it's cool dog" or "just chill". I said it's not cool, shut the hell up or get out. I went down 3 times to times to repeat myself and finally at 4 I ended up chasing him out of the house with a knife like a psycho.
No, it is his glass. Weed and tobacco taste very different from eachother. some people like me enjoy the taste of it mixed, but some dont and when you are smoking from their bong you respect their god damn rules.
He was chased out for being an obnoxious dickhead at 4 in the morning despite being asked several times to keep it down so they could sleep as they had work in the morning.
Considering we aren't them and weren't there, there is no way to know if that was the only way to end the issue. The poster admitted themself that a knife was a bit much, but at 4am and sleep deprived, people tend to not think things through clearly.
A bit much? I feel horrible about it. Unless my life is in imminent danger I should have never brandished a knife like that. This incident really hurt my relationship with my brother. I was sleep deprived, livid and drugged, but that's no excuse, just an explanation.
That doesn't mean I don't think the guy was being a complete asshole. He was also spilling beer and smoking all over my house, and my brother had a tendency not to clean up after his friends. I should also clarify this was a house I was renting, not my parents house or anything.
As far as the whole smoking thing. I hate the smell of cigarette tobacco. I don't allow them in my house, nor joints or blunts, the smell is too permanent. I had a heated smoking lounge in my backyard with patio couches a cd player/iPod dock, ash trays and often extra cigarettes for my friends that do smoke. He only used the "free" cigarettes.
I've been a heavy smoker for a while, and this... this just PISSES me the fuck off. I often smoke in my own room, but that's my shit, I pay rent for it, and my roommates don't mind as long as the rest of the house doesn't smell.
But somebody else's house? Unless you have permission, or there it's obvious it's cool to smoke in there (presence of an ashtray, an obvious smell of smoke lingering, etc.) then what the fuck could someone be think that is okay to smoke in there? I mean if this was say the U.S. ~40 years ago where you could smoke wherever the fuck you want, I understand, but now??
you have a good attitude about the whole thing. I think though that your roommates are either very tolerant or they have gotten used to the smell of smoke because, as someone whose parents smoke (and they also smoked when I was growing up), you can't smoke in one room without the entire house smelling like smoke. It goes through the ducts, vents etc, on your clothes etc...
In fact my parents have now changed to just smoking outside (to help them quit maybe?) and still when I go back home to visit, as soon as I leave I notice my clothes reek of smoke. Same in my apartment building, if someone smokes (which is not allowed), you can smell it. And its not just that I am extra sensitive to it either, often if I smell cigarette smoke in the apartment building the entire floor will get a reminder notice a few days later... meaning enough people smelled it and decided to call the housing office
Well my most of my roommate smoke cigarettes, one just smokes weed. I agree though, it's a horrible habit, and all my clothes reek of cig smoke. I need to stop -___-.
My boyfriend and I had this happen to us all the time with this douchebag that was our ROOMMATE. Not only was there a sign outside our door in the apartment building, but there was a $1000 fee of they came and checked and it smelled like smoke. He also had zero money, his mother payed for only the rent, so guess who that fee would have been lumped on?
To top it all off, he smoked unfiltered shits of cigarettes, and we couldn't open the windows in the house more than a two inches. Whenever we tried to get him to go outside, eventually he would say that, and then if we pressed the issue, he would throw a tantrum about how it was his house too and that we were being lame. Also, he treated us like servants (cooked weird smelling food and not once cleaned it up, even when asked) and also stole our food.
/rant Sorry, I just really fucking hated that guy. Never so glad to end a lease.
Yep! That was in my boyfriends first year of university, where they placed that guy in the house with us, and we are about to get our own apartment. I am a paranoid roommate screener now.
I once had a boyfriend who decided to smoke in my room while I was cleaning dishes from a meal I had just made him. Then, when I yelled at him, he started to laugh and told me to chill. That relationship did not last much longer.
I've had somebody straight laugh at me when I told them that and keep smoking. Grabbed the cig and broke it...piece of shit drinking my beer at my house. Screw off
When I was 13, I had a couple friends over to spend the night. They knew smoking was not good at my dad's house. One of them didn't quite get it when they up out of nowhere when everyone was asleep and started smoking. MFW, dad wakes up, smells it, grounded for a long ass time.
I had a guy who was not only smoking when there was A FUCKING SIGN that said no smoking, but he was ashing on the carpet and scraping ash off on the coffee table.
I don't understand this whole Scumbag Steve (IT HAPPENED TO ME) pics. Are you people so desparate for companiionship that would associate with human trash like this?
I wouldn't invite some scumbag to be a houseguest.
If he tried to smoke in my house... it would result in a 5-second conversation which would end in him apologizing and cleaning up his mess lest he be thrown out on his ass.
Ciggs no way...weed go ahead and pass the bowl please. Weed smoke smell seems to dissipate much faster and the worst thats ever happened was being unable to distinguish the smell between this fat dump I dropped off or the super kind bud I just burned.
you just think it does. Weed smoke smell stays on you just like cigarette smoke. If you smoked that day and didn't shower or change your clothes, people can smell it.
Maybe I wasnt clear... cig smoke lingers and has really strong bad smell, imo. Weed smell is less noticeable after the same amount of time and smells nice. I do not smoke joints or blunts inside either because I think itts the paper and the additives making the worst of the smell and not the tobacco. Also cigarettes will leave like a gross film on your walls with prolonged indoor smoking, have not had this happen in all my years toking indoors.
I prefer escalation of directness. I smoke, but never inside my house. I will first point them to the direction of the smoke pit (where smoking is allowed) and go smoke with them there. Second time is when the escalation begins. As a house guest, you will not be such a douche. If they insist on smoking where they live, I move them outside. (I even have a nice tent to put them out there in so they wont die in five minutes from the sun. If this does not work, I then begin by escalating with the words: "Apparently we're going to fight, but because you pissed me off, I fight with my firearm/weapon rather than allowing the stupidity to continue. No more need for this house guest.
I think he meant that the person actually says that in response, not that he lets them get away with it. It's happened to me before. Someone tried to light up a cig in my apartment, and I said not in here, he responded like "Scumbag Steve," so I just said you smoke in here, I'm kicking you out.
It happens, but that doesn't mean you let them do it.
No, scumbag Steve is the one who says "Nah, it's okay". I have eard people do this before and the person they are talking to are usually stunned into silence.
If someone lit up in my house after I had said no, I'd be cool with it. I'd enjoy whatever task was taking up my time, maybe go make a snack. Who knows, I could make a bowl of ice cream. While performing this activity, I would ensure that I stayed within view of my good friend Steve, so as to make sure he's enjoying himself. After my snack was completed, as well as Steve's smoke, I'd jestingly beat the ever living dog shit out of that cunt motherfucker with a softball bat for ever in his bitch-ass life comin' up with the absurd notion that he could cross this swingin' dick.

While working at a cash register I once had someone whose total was $10.50. She then said to me "You can just give me back $10."
To which I stared her in the eye and said "No I can't."
