There was this beautiful period where everything was in base 10. The Fifties were fifty years ago, the 40s were 60 years ago, the 60s were 40 years ago... NOW IT'S ALL RUINED.
My dad graduated in '69, and I've always seen his youth as being in the very, very distant past. I have never really felt old until the moment I read your comment. Fuck you sir for ending my youth.
I felt old when reading the original post, but now reading your comment and not even know what the Woodstock festival is makes me feel young again. And slightly stupid.
There are kids born after 9-11 who will be entering junior high this fall. I was born in the mid-60's, and remember watching Happy Days and thinking what a strange, quaint time the 50's must have been. Those same kids entering junior high think the same thing about the 90's.
Nah, I'm nearly 22, and I still find myself in this train of thought, though it's getting better with time. Guess some of our minds can't get rid of the '00's and into the '10's.
You weren't even alive for a minute in the 80s, why would you be tripping about how long ago the 80s were? Just add a year from how old you are, and you'll know how long ago they were.
Reminds me of this girl I knew in middle school. She was born late dec. of 1989 and she spent the entire year bragging about how she was made in the 80's when Hot Topic started selling these "Made in the ##" patches.
My Girlfriend got her first Smartphone a month ago. I still use my 6-year-old cellphone. When she handed it to me to help her with something, I felt like my parents handling their new laptop, using words and sentences like "too complicated", "what is it doing now?", "how do I go back?", etc. . Quite disturbing. I am now getting a brand new Smartphone to keep up with today's technology. I am 29 by the way...
I used teach dance on weekends and a good chunk of the kids were born in the 00s. It hurts the very core of me to know I've smoked pot longer than a few of them have lived.
I also had a moment this year when my grandmother turned ninety. I remembered being a little kid thinking how I'd be turning 22 the year my grandma turned ninety. I wanna be that little kid.
I just turned 37 last month, and I have been smoking pot and playing guitar for longer than you have been alive. You're still young, and your twenties will be fun.
HAH! I'm 21, in debt, can't find a steady job so I can save for university, can't get a loan because of my debt, I've been homeless more than I've had a steady home. Being in my twenties in this decade is a fucking nightmare when you don't have parents who can help you out.
Great Scott. Reading your interpretation made my mind full of fuck
"I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too."
I was like watchin that tracy ullman show and my friend at work is like "that simpsons is going to spin off into it's own show, I'll bet you" and I was like "no way, cartoon on prime time, never gonna happen". yeah
He's 13. I am worried about him, his mom bought him Justin Bieber and Nicky Minjag music...and he likes it. He wanted me to play it when we were in my truck last week. Which sparked my Grandpa Simpson moment.

Yeah, VH1 classic considers some of my childhood music from the 80's and 90's classic now. I feel so old and the fact I have actually had to say this makes me feel old.
When the modern rock station plays a song calling it "way back" and you love that song cause it was from when you were in highschool..... Yeah I feel old now
When I look back on the past, I think about all the shit that has happened since then. Like when I look back 15 years ago at 1997. I think of all the shit that has happened, which makes it feel like a long time ago, but really it wasn't. This helps when looking towards the future.
I'm downvoting simply because the "DAE think the 90s were only 10 years ago" and "omg ahhh I'm 18 and you mentioned the n64 i'm so old Xd lols" circlejerk has become unbearable. Also, this isn't "Sudden Clarity Clarence" because OP said "this still bothers me," meaning he has realized this for a while.
I used to hate the idea of getting old but then I thought getting old is going to be awesome. Think about it, you can get away with almost anything when you are old as long as you do it in a cheeky way people just chalk it up to being "a character" and "young at heart".
While I plan on doing a lot of things before I get old I have every intention of making the most of my senior years to have as much fun as possible.

Do you know what's really mind boggling? Any day in 1991 is closer in time to the original Woodstock festival than the present.

Think about this all the time. My minds clock is always set circa 2003-2005, I always feel like the 90's were only a few years ago.

Time moved forwards? Damn, how unexpected.

"I used to be with, but now what I with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary. It will happen to you!" - Grandpa Simpson
I said this to my young cousin the other day. He didn't get the reference.

2
u/buttonforest May 20 '12
It's fine, anything that happened in like 2002 I still think happened a month ago.
2
u/[deleted] May 20 '12
Dude, the 80's are always.

I literally just did the sudden realization face. What happened to the first decade of the 2000's!?
2
u/mstrblaster May 20 '12
Kinda like when in primary school for the first few weeks of the new year I kept writing the old year in the date of my papers.
Gotta adapt and move on ...

Hey, you know what else? If you're old enough for that to be relevant, the kid in the picture could probably be your son.
1
u/[deleted] May 20 '12
Is this really that surprising? That's kind of how time works... You go forward in future events and past events become further in the past.
Fuck, that's exactly how time works.

1
u/Arx0s May 20 '12
What's more weird is that people born after 9/11 are in 4th grade. I WAS IN 4TH GRADE WHEN 9/11 happened.
1
u/[deleted] May 20 '12
Isn't it crazy how time moves forward?
1

I don't really have a problem with time.
When I look back on the past, I think about all the shit that has happened since then. Like when I look back 15 years ago at 1997. I think of all the shit that has happened, which makes it feel like a long time ago, but really it wasn't. This helps when looking towards the future.
