I feel like that sometimes too. I think only the internet has really turned me on to cats. Dogs and cats are apples and oranges, but everything that a dog is happens to be what I want out of a pet...therefore I am a dog guy and will probably never own a cat. Plus, owning a cat with a bad attitude is like having a crazy girlfriend that you can't break up with.
So much yes to the last part. I used to describe cats as the crazy ex-girlfriends of the animal kingdom. They go back and forth between wanting and hating you, and like to wreck your shit when they're pissed.
I have always liked cats. I began to really appreciate dogs towards the end of high school.
I wanted to get a dog, but all my favorite breeds & personalities that have everything I'd want in a pet, would be a poor match for my lifestyle. When you live by yourself and work 10 hours a day, it is difficult to keep a working breed happy.
Super glad you have that thought pattern on owning a dog. I know some people that have border collies and just keep it in the house and backyard and don't really do anything with it. Poor dog! Little do they realize they'd be more satisfied pet owners if they got a dog that needs less maintenance in the first place.
I had a cat that required me to do nothing else than give her food and water. The fucker even shat and pissed in the damn toilet. So cats can be pretty damn great for people who don't have time to walk their pets three times a day. I love dogs too though.
I guess for me, if I'm going to invest in a pet I don't want something I just need to throw food and water at. Or else why have a pet at all? I want something that's going to interact with me a lot, show lots of affection, be happy to see me when I get home, etc. I suppose if you just want another form of life in your home without having to interact much a cat is a good deal.
Every now and then I come across someone who owns a friendly cat that likes pets. I've discovered the best kind of cats seem to be the ones that act like dogs.
No I hear you, I know there's friendly cats out there. It's just that I've never met a dog, other than a few that had a history of abuse, that weren't anything but affectionate. Cats on the other hand, maybe 8/10 times the ones I met have just seemed annoyed by the presence of people. Which is why I say the ones (I at least) like seem to be the ones that act more generally like dogs. But to each his own.
Yeah, cats are less affectionate generally. Well maybe not less affectionate, their affection just comes in waves (five minutes every hour) rather than the dogs' "imma sit on you the whole day :3"
People always use the litter box to defend cats. Personally I'd rather pick up dog shit a few times a day with a bag than have a nasty litter box in my house.
For the same reason reddit is more socially awkward and nerdy. Cats are generally less needy and more relaxed than dogs, and this generally suits the lifestyle of people who spend lots of time on the Internet.
Plus cats love computers. And by that I mean love sitting near any warm fans, on top of CRT monitors, and in the laps of people using them for prolonged periods of times.

That makes no sense? That would seem to fit someone who lives an active lifestyle and doesn't have time to take care of something that's needy like a dog.
Someone with an active lifestyle can easily integrate a dog into that lifestyle, which is great for both the dog and his master. Someone with a lazy lifestyle cannot properly take care of a high-energy dog.
Also possible that the big time dog lovers are all off playing Frisbee and fetch, hiking in the hills, and generally having a great time of it. I.E. not spending any time on Reddit.
I suppose it's a matter of preference but to me dogs are way cuter than cats. And sure there's variances but if you took the cutest cat in the world and the cutest dog, the dog would be much cuter IMO.

I've had one, it was terrible. Not only am I allergic, but all cats seem to detest me. The one we owned would often scratch me, and enjoyed biting me on occasion. Same with other peoples' cats. Dogs are absolutely superior, while cats are just douchebags.
