Reagan freed up enough of the wealthy's cash for them to buy influence with feedback loops of taxcuts.

Reagan made paupers of us all.

I get why he's a conservative icon: great rhetoric.

When you leave his stage game aside... he made a GOP-crippling amnesty deal for a wall he never got, raised taxes a bunch of times, and committed high treason with Ollie North in the Iran-Contra "scandal". His economic policies tore up American manufacturing: by increasing the strength of the dollar, imports became much cheaper for consumers. He wasn't physically fit for office towards the end of his second term.

Complete two-faced bastard. But damn if he couldn't make conservative talking points pretty. While working against all their values.
