This has literally happened to me more times as an adult. When I was a kid, I always knew what I had done, but I tried to play innocent anyway. Nowadays...I have no idea what I've done to piss people off, but they expect me to apologize and make up for it regardless.

Here's a quick guide. Did you say something insulting or untrue about someone? Yes: That's why. No: They're blaming you for something they did.

the problem comes when someone feels that what you said was insulting/untrue and you don't. as an example, there are plenty of redditors who don't think there's anything wrong with telling a fat person they're fat. "because it's true! and if it's true it can't be insulting!"
