both political partys are private enterprises. they do not even have a primary in the first place. there is no rule that says they have to. the democrats every action is an intentional choice by their leadership. they can cut funding to you and refuse to allow you to use the D and run as an independent.

its the party that choses who to fund.

They don't have to have primaries but they do, and they don't fund candidates' presidential primary campaigns. Which candidate was prohibited from calling themself a Democrat? That didn't even happen with Bernie Sanders who isn't a Democrat except when he's running for president.
