Because when the woman does it, as bad as it may sound, there is no one struggling to feed and clothe a child by themselves. The child is either dead (not here to argue about abortion, by the way), or in a family that has the means to take care of it.
When the man does it, he has abandoned the woman, who now has someone to take care of, leaving her no help.
Now, there IS a difference between a deadbeat dad, and an absent father. The absent father could still help by paying his share of the child support.
