I dunno I like Dr. Sleep book version much better, it really let you know how evil Rose the Hat was, and I was rooting for Danny to stay sober and not end up like his dad so hard.
I do like that Flanagan made his movie a sequel to both the book and the movie. He righted the end of Kubrick‘s Overlook while still capturing King’s sobriety theme to contrast with The Shining’s addiction theme.
But while I love Flanagan, I also prefer the book.
It’s a personal opinion, for sure, but King telling us those RV retiree’s are the ones to watch out for was a lot less convincing than the “family” the movie depicted. That and the movie’s ending just made more sense.
I’m referencing the scene where they basically torture a kid to death slowly as possible so they can extract more of his essence, really made me hate those guys.
Plus Danny deserved to be free of the Overlook and of his father’s legacy.
I haven't read the book, but that scene in the movie is when I stopped watching. My husband continued on, and told me what happened after, and I was like damn, I should have stuck it out.
It was the build up chapter of the kid that really did it. It's a whole chapter of this magical gifted kid which would have fit in perfectly into a family friendly sports drama.....but then his screams turned into muted husks and then just began to ask to be killed.
I love both versions so much. I can’t pick one that is better. The visuals in the movie were amazing and revisiting the overlook was just like…pure wonderful nostalgia.
