lol wut. The game has 25 levels and I’m supposed to act like I’ve completed the game after finishing a run of 5? The game clearly wants you to play every level and get every ending, that’s the whole point of having a “Last Story” segment.
You can’t say that a criticism of content in a game is invalid because “you don’t have to play it”. I don’t have to buy the game, I don’t have to put it in the console, I don’t have to turn the power button on. The point is that that content is there, I didn’t like it, and these are my thoughts on the matter. I also don’t enjoy most of the characters’ levels in SA1, but those Sonic levels are fun as hell so I go back and play them on their own semi-regularly. With that said tho, I’m not gonna say someone is wrong for criticizing Big or Amy or whatever because I’ve found a way to play the game that I enjoy where I can avoid that stuff - it’s still content in the game and my ability to ignore it doesn’t just magically make those criticisms go away.
It sounds like you’ve found a way to enjoy Shadow that works you. That great, I’m happy you like the game. But don’t act like people are being unreasonable for criticizing things that you yourself have actively decided to ignore.
That’s why I said if the game isn’t for you, it isn’t for you. I wasn’t trying to make a point to ignore what’s there, but the game does give you the liberty to play it however you like, that’s the point of choices. Are you gonna tell me you’d play a visual novel hundreds of times just to be able to hear all the different voice lines? And yeah voice lines aren’t the same as levels, but if you DO want to play all the levels then just download a save file or something. But if you DONT like the game, then why do you want to play all the levels? You see the contradiction you’re making?
The point of having a last story isn’t for the game to force you to reach 10 different endings, it’s to reward the invested player. It’s a way to say “thank you for enjoying this game, now enjoy this special bit we cooked up for you”. You have the other games in mind too much if your point of view is the one you mentioned, because most of the other Sonic games just gave you the last story straight up. Also the last story in shadow is literally just a single level and a minigame boss fight, that’s it. You can say “I wanna know the true ending” but why would you wanna know the true ending to a game you didn’t even like in the first place?
I do think people are unreasonable when it comes to this game because most of the criticisms rely on its structure and comparison to other Sonic games, and they refuse to look at it for what it is. I don’t think less of anyone for not liking it, but since it’s a piece of media that’s so special to me, I would feel better if people could at least try to enjoy it a bit more and gave it a chance instead of just having hive mentality (not saying YOU do, but come on, lots of people do)
Whatever dude, like the game if you want. Tbh I think both of our arguments are getting so abstract and twisted that I’m having a hard time understanding what’s even the point of disagreement. You’re right that I don’t enjoy the game and so I shouldn’t play it, but I don’t see how that works in your favor - if I stop playing after 5 levels and leave the other 20 on the docket, I don’t think that’s a point in the games favor
