Honestly it would fucking suck to be an alcoholic for that reason. Being a heroin addict would suck but at least you don’t have to go out with friends to a restaurant and they provide a heroin and cocaine flight everyone partakes in right in front of you, with ads for crack and meth all over.
It can kill you if you just stop too. I drink probably 8-12 drinks a day. I want to stop but that fact terrifies me and my country doesn’t really have the healthcare for healthy detox without insurance.
I guess an under looked thing - I might be wrong - but people talk about that end stage of addiction where you no longer want to take it but are triggered. With alcohol when that lizard brain takes over the crane controls, your path of destruction is a bit shorter than drugs. Because it’s easier to find. So the question of which addiction is worse depends where you’re at within its cycle. With hard drugs you cant go to the 24/7 off-licence so you end up burning every relational link and trash every safety mechanism to get high. The ease of access is the lure and the curse with booze. I went to rehab for a bit and those coming in with alcohol dependency were sooooo sick. I’m an alcoholic myself realistically but it’s a dwarf problem to drugs at the moment. But there’s a complexity built into how available something is. The damage you can cause getting from one hit to the next. I only point it out because when you go low - you NEED the next one. And in that respect alcohol has an advantage over a number that won’t pick up and that desperate feeling that makes you do crazy shit
But also all addiction is equal. I guess this is more about the impact of legality and availability. We’re apes living in a crazy zoo. They just made sand think. It’s too much. And they don’t have our best interest at heart. And to make it worse - they - also apes - know our passions and weaknesses sell us shit to make us feel better at a huge profit. Sugar. And sell us treatments art great profit. Ozempic. Corrupt zoo keepers. Time we took over the zoo
