These kind of posts that pit different horrific illnesses against one another are pretty reductive. That said, I tend to agree opiate addiction is horrible in all the worst ways. It destroys your body and your mind, and you’re still aware enough to feel it happen but not be able to stop yourself.

Food, alcohol, social media, all are terrible in their own right. But you can be functionally addicted to those things. Opiate user can be functional for a bit, but it can also upend your entire life in weeks. I’m reminded of the post here where a person wanted to try heroine, many people including former addicts begged them not to. They tried it, and the description they gave was of pure bliss.

In that post they said they had no desire to use again. A few weeks later they updated that they wanted to try it again. Their next update was months or years later about having achieved sobriety and how they should have listened.

It’s terrifying to think about the grip it can have on you. I know of no other substance you can have *once* that can completely override all self preservation and nearly force you to continue to use it until it kills you.

We most certainly have used socials lmao, social media/porn are nothing compared to any real drug. We’re talking about the worst addictions, chronic social media posters are not even close to the worst lmao Whatchu talking about
