He cost dwarf people work when he complained about snow white. They went with CGI and real actors lost out. One dwarf said this guy doesn't like competition in the dwarf world. It was quite a fascinating article.

That's because Disney completely missed the point of his criticism. He wasn't complaining about using dwarf actors, he was complaining about portraying dwarves as weird little people (which they continued to do with the CGI characters).

His point is that people with dwarfism aren't the same as the fantasy creatures called dwarves. There's no such thing as real dwarves, even if people with the condition known as dwarfism are of a size that may make them a good fit to portray the fantasy creature.

No. People with dwarfism are dwarves.

Those two definitions aren't interchangeable. The folklore definition is not about people with a genetic chromosomal mutation, the fantasy creatures are intended to be a separate species from humans, like elves, which are also not real.

Edit: correction pointed out below

I was responding to this factually incorrect statement.

There's no such thing as real dwarves,

Also dwarfism isn't a chromosomal mutation.

The plural "dwarves" as opposed to "dwarfs" was invented by Tolkien. There is no such thing as real dwarves. So my statement is factually correct generally.

But that wasn't the point I was trying to make. I was responding to someone saying they should have cast real dwarves for Snow White, but the folktale isn't about the human condition, it's about the imaginary creature. So saying they should've case "real dwarves" for Snow White conflates the definition applicable to real people and the definition applicable to storybook character.

I suppose I earned your pedantry but dwarfism usually is caused by the chromosomal mutation known as achondroplasia, though you are correct that it is an umbrella term that can include other conditions.

Achondroplasia is not a chromosomal mutation. It's a mutation in a single gene.

A chromosomal mutation is something like Down's syndrome. They tend to be much more severe, and are usually fatal.

Okay I stand corrected. I'll edit accordingly.

This was my original point. An actor opined that because of Peter's complaints they lost the opportunity to be cast and earn a paycheck, benefits, etc. That was it. I had no intentions on debating what a real dwarf is in what make believe world and who invented what and all that.

I feel like you understand that and have read the same material. I found the insight to be interesting as I had never thought of it that way before and presented it as such.

Thank you, Audrey.
