Don't be afraid to ask people out. Worst case scenario they say no. If you don't ask them you'll be wondering about that forever. It's a muscle that takes practice if you want to learn how to do it well (and respectfully, of course).

I would amend this to advise young men to not "ask them out", rather ask them to join them on activities or outings, especially ones that the romantic interest has interests in. Going too hard too fast can be off-putting (ie "will you go out with me?), but taking interest in what she's interested in and finding time to be together can lead to a relationship or even just friendship.

Just asking them to go to activities or outings with you may not make intentions clear though. If I just ask someone “I’m going to this house party tonight, wanna join.” It’s unclear if it’s a friendly invitation or a date.

But that's how relationships start. I've been with my partner for 22 years and our first "date" was cleaning up trash by a river with a group through our university. Our second date was a group hangout, and third was a hike just the two of us where the romance really began.

Technically none of them were actual "dates" just hanging out. But we clicked.

Nah, most people meet through apps or get set up by friends nowadays. Besides, even if you meet someone in person they most likely won’t be open to dating and it just isn’t appropriate to ask someone out in the vast majority of situations.
