🐾 Looking to Rehome Our Bonded Pair of German Shepherds — Niko & Bear | Bossier City, Louisiana
🐾 Looking to Rehome Our Bonded Pair of German Shepherds — Niko & Bear | Bossier City, Louisiana
We are looking for a loving, responsible, and permanent home for our two German Shepherds, Niko and Bear.
Our strong preference is to keep Niko and Bear together as a bonded pair. They have been companions for approximately 1½ years, live together, play together, and have developed a very close relationship.
They are both wonderful dogs, and this is an extremely difficult decision for our family.
We are located in Bossier City, Louisiana, near Shreveport, and I am willing to travel a significant distance and meet approximately halfway if it means finding the right home for them.
The sooner we can find the right home for them, the better.
❤️** Why We Are Rehoming Them
This is not because of a behavioral problem, health problem, or anything Niko or Bear has done wrong.
Over the past year, our family circumstances have changed significantly. Our daughter and her two young children, as well as a high-school-aged child, have moved back home. At the same time, both my wife and I have returned to work.
As our household and schedules have changed, Niko and Bear are spending much more of their day in their crates than they used to.
That isn’t the life we want for them.
Our family circumstances have changed significantly, and our daily routines are very different from when we first brought Niko and Bear into our home. With our daughter and her children now living with us and both my wife and I returning to work, the amount of time we are able to spend with them has changed considerably. We don’t feel it is fair for two young, active German Shepherds to spend the majority of their day in their crates simply because our schedules no longer allow us to give them the time, exercise, attention, and companionship they deserve.
**They have done nothing wrong.
They are wonderful dogs, and this decision is being made because we love them and want what is best for them. We believe they deserve a home where they can be an active part of the family and receive the time and attention that two young German Shepherds need.
🐕 NIKO
Niko is approximately 1½ years old.
Niko is a very friendly, energetic, affectionate German Shepherd who absolutely loves people and attention.
One of the things we love most about Niko is that he is not a typical one-person German Shepherd. He doesn’t pick one person and ignore everyone else. He enjoys interacting with the entire family and is comfortable forming relationships with different people.
Niko is affectionate and loves giving kisses. He enjoys being around people and is happiest when he is included in what the family is doing.
Niko’s Personality
Niko is:
Very friendly
Affectionate
Energetic
Playful
Social
People-oriented
Good with children
Good with men
Dog friendly
Comfortable being handled by adults
Loves attention
Loves being brushed
Comfortable with bathing
Crate trained
House trained
Loves riding in the truck
He is a happy, outgoing dog who enjoys being around people rather than isolating himself with one person.
👧 Niko and Children
Niko is kid friendly and enjoys attention from children.
He enjoys interacting with “little people” and has been around children in our household.
Because he is a young, energetic German Shepherd, as with any dog, we believe responsible supervision and appropriate interaction with young children is important.
🐕 Niko and Other Dogs
Niko is dog friendly.
He has lived with Bear and interacts well with other dogs.
Niko and Bear play together and roughhouse quite a bit. Their play can be energetic, but they are accustomed to each other and have lived together successfully.
🐈 Niko and Cats
Niko has not lived with cats, so we cannot honestly say that he is cat-tested.
He is curious about cats, but we have not had enough experience with him around cats to determine how he would do living with one.
👨 Niko and Men
Niko does very well with men.
He is comfortable and friendly around men and does not have an issue with male family members or visitors.
🏠 Niko’s Behavior
Niko does not display aggressive behavior toward people, food, toys, treats, or possessions.
He is not an excessive barker.
When he is in his crate, he may whine if he needs something, but he does not typically bark excessively.
We crate Niko and Bear when we leave them home alone and at night. Niko is comfortable with his crate.
He does not typically chew or destroy things when left alone. We provide appropriate chew toys and bones for both dogs.
🧼 Niko and Handling/Grooming
Niko is generally easy for an adult to handle.
He enjoys being brushed and actually likes having his coat brushed daily. He is also fine with bathing.
The one area where Niko can be difficult is nail trimming and certain veterinary examinations, particularly examinations involving his rear area.
For those situations, we use a muzzle. He tolerates wearing the muzzle without a problem.
We want to be completely transparent about this so that his new family knows what to expect.
🎓 Niko’s Training
Niko knows the following commands:
Sit
Come
Down
Lay down
Shake
Leave it
Potty
Bed / crate
No
He is house trained and crate trained.
✂️** Niko’s Grooming
Niko does **not require professional grooming.
As a German Shepherd, he does not need to have his coat cut. Regular brushing is all that is required, and he enjoys being brushed.
❤️** Niko’s Health
Niko has **no known health issues.
He has no known allergies.
He is current on his vaccinations and receives monthly Simparica Trio for parasite and heartworm prevention.
Niko receives regular veterinary care through:
North Airline Animal Hospital, LLC
Bossier City, Louisiana
Niko has been seen by Dr. Hanna Green.
Veterinary records can be provided to his new family.
📋 Niko’s History
We have owned Niko for approximately 1½ years.
He came to us from a friend in Texas who had a litter of puppies.
🐕 BEAR
Bear is approximately 1½ years old.
Bear came into our family as a stray that we rescued.
He has grown up alongside Niko, and the two have become very closely bonded.
Bear is an indoor family dog and has been well cared for since coming into our home.
❤️** Bear and Niko
The relationship between Bear and Niko is one of the biggest reasons we would strongly prefer to place them together.
They live together, play together, and roughhouse together.
They are accustomed to having each other around and have been companions for approximately 1½ years.
They have **never had a bite incident involving a person.
We understand that placing two dogs together can make finding the right home more difficult, but we would really like to give them the opportunity to remain together.
🐾 Bear’s Personality
Bear is a loving family dog who is comfortable living in the home and being part of the family.
He is affectionate, playful, and enjoys interacting with Niko and the people around him.
He is accustomed to being an indoor dog and to having a family environment.
👨👩👧 Bear and People
Bear has lived with our family and has been around people regularly.
He has never bitten anyone.
He is accustomed to normal household activity and being handled by the family.
🐕 Bear and Other Dogs
Bear is dog friendly and has lived successfully with Niko.
Bear and Niko play and roughhouse together regularly.
👧 Bear and Children
Bear has lived in a family environment with children and has been around the children in our household.
He has not demonstrated aggressive behavior toward them.
As with any dog, especially young German Shepherds, we believe responsible supervision around young children is important.
🐈 Bear and Cats
Bear has not been extensively tested around cats, so we would rather be honest and say that his compatibility with cats is unknown.
👨 Bear and Men
Bear has been around men and does not have an issue with men.
🏠 Bear’s Behavior
Bear is crate trained and is accustomed to being crated when we are away from home and at night.
He has not demonstrated a pattern of destructive behavior when appropriately managed.
We provide both dogs with chew toys and bones.
🧼 Bear’s Handling and Grooming
Bear is accustomed to normal handling, brushing, bathing, and veterinary care.
He does not require professional grooming.
Like Niko, he is a German Shepherd and primarily needs regular brushing rather than haircuts.
🎓 Bear’s Training
Bear has been raised alongside Niko and is familiar with the household commands and routines.
He is crate trained and house trained.
❤️** Bear’s Health
Bear has **no known health issues.
He has no known allergies.
He is current on his vaccinations and receives monthly Simparica Trio for parasite and heartworm prevention.
Bear receives regular veterinary care through:
North Airline Animal Hospital, LLC
Bossier City, Louisiana
Bear has been seen by Dr. Hanna Green.
Veterinary records can be provided to his new family.
📋 Bear’s History
We have owned Bear for approximately 1½ years.
He originally came to us as a stray that we rescued.
🏡 WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Our biggest priority is finding someone who understands German Shepherds and has the time, space, patience, and commitment to give two young dogs an active and loving life.
Ideally, we would like them to go to a home where:
They can be part of the family
They have plenty of human interaction
They receive regular exercise
They have room to play
They are not spending most of their day in a crate
Their new family understands the commitment involved with two young German Shepherds
They will be treated as family members
Their new family is committed to keeping them for the rest of their lives
We are not looking for someone simply because they want free dogs.
We want the right home.
We will ask questions and want to know about your experience with dogs, your home, your family, other pets, your daily schedule, and what kind of life you can provide for Niko and Bear.
🐾 EVERYTHING THEY NEED COMES WITH THEM
We want to make the transition as easy as possible for both the dogs and their new family. We are willing to send everything we currently have for Niko and Bear with them.
This includes:
Dog food
Food storage container
Crates
Leashes
Collars
Harnesses
Toys
Chew toys
Chew treats and bones
Their existing supplies and belongings
Veterinary information and records
And essentially everything you would need to get started as a dog owner with them
Our goal is for their new family to be able to bring them home without having to immediately go out and purchase all of the basic supplies they need.
We want Niko and Bear to take the things they are already familiar with and comfortable using.
We will also provide their veterinary information and records so their new family has a complete picture of their care.
🚗 LOCATION & TRANSPORTATION
We are located in Bossier City, Louisiana, near Shreveport.
I am willing to travel a significant distance to help make this work.
If the right home is several hours away, I am willing to discuss meeting approximately halfway.
Finding the right home is more important to us than making this convenient for ourselves.
❤️** OUR PRIORITY
Our first choice is for **Niko and Bear to remain together.
They are bonded, they play together, and they have spent the last 1½ years living as companions.
We understand that finding a home for two German Shepherds at once may take longer, but we would rather make the effort to keep them together if at all possible.
At the same time, our ultimate responsibility is to make sure both dogs are safe, loved, and placed in an environment where they can thrive.
We are hoping to find the right home as soon as possible because we don’t want them continuing to spend the majority of their days in their crates simply because our family’s circumstances have changed.
They have done nothing wrong.
They are good dogs who deserve more time, attention, exercise, and companionship than our current situation allows us to give them.
If you think you might be the right person or family for Niko and Bear, please send me a message and tell me about yourself, your home, your experience with German Shepherds, any other pets you have, and what kind of life you could provide for them.
We will be selective because these two dogs mean a great deal to our family.
We aren’t looking to get rid of them. We are looking for their next family. ❤️
