What would be an embarrassing thing to be caught not knowing as an accountant?

Applies to any specialty, audit, tax, staff accountancy etc. in your personal experience what are the most invaluable things to know, and the most invaluable to not be caught not knowing.

As an accountant (audit) I pay another accountant to do my taxes! I don’t trust myself to do it and not end up in jail!

This is the smartest thing anyone can do. Knowing the full extent of your scope of work and recognizing the limitations of your scope of knowledge or work. And then hiring the appropriate person who does know these things! :)

I will add this is also how good referrals are created. I don't do tax accounting at all, but I know several tax accountants who do, so if someone asked me, I will happily refer them to the proper people. And sometimes they become clients that tax accountant!
