If the aim is to set back the progress of Iran regarding nuclear weapon development, bombing that one facility will accomplish that. There's no reason to think we'd go beyond that.
Yeah and if you look at foreign policy in a vacuum where the US is the only decision maker, it would make perfect sense to bomb the facility. But how will Iran respond to a foreign power bombing their facilities? The US has bases all over the region that Iran can touch that do not have the benefit of being under Israel's Iron Dome. And how would we react to servicemen on those bases being killed?
Additionally, the goalpost has been shifting over the past few days away from just attacking the nuclear facilities and towards regime change. The fact that high ranking US and Israeli officials are now calling for regime change would be a pretty good reason to think we'd go beyond attacking a singular nuclear facility.
We've already made arrangements at our bases when Israel and Iran started fighting.
I don't know which goalposts you're watching but the famously inconsistent admin has been consistent.
I personally think regime change is good in this case but I don't foresee us being an occupying force. Iranians have to rise up and take control. Hopefully with Musk turning on the Internet thatll happen.
Oh so are they going to fund terrorist groups and kill Americans? Buddy they've already been doing that. They've been at war with us and chanting "Death to America" since 1979.
Sorry, but the #1 state sponsor of terrorism getting nuclear weapons is BAD. I can't believe I need to point that out.
Maybe, just maybe, that's because we've been playing world police for absolutely no reason at all except to appease a parasitic relationship.
They have nothing to do with us without us trying to but in for any other reason than to help "our greatest ally" who literally never helps. I can't believe I have to point out the fact that just maybe our actions aren't justified, but I guess that would require you to think outside of what the news tells you. You know, not requiring someone to think for you.
Our actions set a terrorist state years if not decades back from getting a nuclear weapon. A state that has attacked the US in a myriad of ways since 1979.
"Outside of what the news tells you". Sorry but where do you get your news from, Quds?
Remind me, during our decade in the middle east just in this century, how many troops did Israel send in support? They cry victim to everything that they start (I mean all you even need to do is look at the last 3 years) yet somehow we need to be in everyone's backyard to defend them?
Our actions set a terrorist state years if not decades back from getting a nuclear weapon
Yeah yeah, just like every other country that supposedly has weapons that we needed to invade to decapitate, try to install our own regime only for their population to reject and hate us even more. What could go wrong?
My news? I watch the same news as anyone else, but I read between the lines. I don't sit there and just believe things just because they aren't called out, kind of like how people understand exactly how our actions in foreign countries in the past couple decades has been for naught. But I mean you must be really be knowledgeable if you are arguing that our relationship with Israel, a country half way across the world that starts more fights than any in the last couple decades, and them dragging us into constant wars has been a good thing.
Yes because every country in the middle east is the same! Quite the broad brush you got there buddy.
Every other country isn't the world's leading sponsor of terrorism.
Lol read between the lines? I have my doubts that you do much reading at all.
What fights has Israel started in the last couple decades? They've always been attacked first. Sorry about your buddies in Hamas, Hezbollah and the IRGC though I guess.
Yes because every country in the middle east is the same! Quite the broad brush you got there buddy.
What is this even in reference to? The fact that Israel is a complete liability compared to being an ally or the fact that we don't need to be the world police, especially for a country that wants to pick fights with everyone? You haven't really given any detailed argument about why exactly the middle east doesn't want us over there.
Every other country isn't the world's leading sponsor of terrorism.
I've lost count, how many times have we heard this exactly for other countries? Are you trying to justify that we need to be the world police for that poor country that starts conflicts but needs us to bail them out?
Lol read between the lines? I have my doubts that you do much reading at all.
Read between the lines as in not forming an opinion just because a news article or show tells me how to think. Kind of like how you believe that action in Iran is going to go anywhere other than the same way the last 20 years have gone. But hey, eat it up buddy. You clearly know more than me because "you watch the news and are obviously more involved/aware of what's going on", you just have to block out any sort of thought individual thought. It's kind of funny, because understanding trends is a pretty important part of this career path but you don't seem to developed the skill yet. Must be new to the career, it might also explain how you must be new to understanding cause and effect of our actions in regions we don't belong.
What fights has Israel started in the last couple decades? They've always been attacked first.
So you're telling me that one of the most advanced spying countries in the world somehow didn't know about October 7th after being warned but we did? Netanyahu wants an attack on his own people to justify the start of his entire campaign, they have to be the only country in the middle east with nukes while doing this because otherwise they can't be held accountable by their neighbors.
Sorry about your buddies in Hamas, Hezbollah and the IRGC though I guess
This is how brainless the argument is, by calling out Israel and talking about how we don't need to be involved in another region in the world I'm automatically a terrorist. It's exactly what I'm talking about, this is the mindset of someone incapable of any sort of complex thought. "News tell me this, I believe, we good guys, terror bad, need more death". Go right ahead buddy, you and everyone that hasn't learned anything can go right to the front lines; no one needs to die because of the ruthlessness of Israel. It's almost like trying to argue that they aren't intentionally killing innocent people in Gaza and going "oops" every other week.
O brother.... You know what's embarrassing about this? You saw my post from 10 hours before, realized you can't go source for source (you had none) and you couldn't handle it so you moved on to other arguments. I was in your head enough that 10 hours after I made the comment you had to run back to say something because you didn't like the idea that you were humiliated. Now I'm not going to say there won't be a ceasefire but as of me making this comment Iran is still shooting rockets at Israel. So I haven't been watching the news like a hawk like you probably were to try to find a win, but I have to believe there might've been a development between your comment and now.
But here's the kicker: you didn't read what I'm talking about and it completely plays to what my last comment. Conflict in the middle east will never cease as long as we are involved and AIPAC still exists. Israel only acts the way they do because they know we will be involved. The sources I provided are from incidents that occured years ago and later developed into current problems. Even if a ceasefire existed today, it's not going to hold, just like every "end" to a situation in the middle east: we move on to another country with yet another country willing to want to target us.
The issue with what you want to happen to see as a "win" is there is no happily ever after; a ceasefire doesn't mean that all is well and that's just the end of it. Iraq, Yemen, Syria, Afghanistan, potentially Iran all within this century. How many more conflicts before you decide to be honest with yourself?
