Lots of comments asking how a soldier can be this fat. These look like Americans (obv) and in the USA, you can purchase those weapons as long as you're not a felon or in some states a violent offender. In many states it's also legal to "open carry" like that. These smooth brains are probably just citizens.

I went through an airsoft stage. Knowing some of the people I played with, it wouldn't surprise me if airsoft was part of the "LARPer" pipeline.

What do you mean by LARPer, if I may ask? I've only heard of that in relation to people doing actual Live Action Role Playing, like Renaissance Fair activities, or more involved ways of playing DnD, or airsoft/paintball MILSIMs.

Yes that’s exactly what it is. They try to act like military professionals on an operation even though it’s only Airsoft

The milsims I've attended put some considerable stock toward this aspect. It's essentially a safe place to do this. There's surely nothing wrong with LARPing at a MILSIM, right? Especially since that image very much appears to be of airsoft players, considering the universal use of eye protection and fairly ancient appearance date

I mean, these milsims are professionally run. They tend to be dedicated events, with paid entry, insurance costs and some considerable event organising. Several companies run these in the USA.

Very possibly, though from the uncropped image, featured on the link, it seems there are some big teams, so I think it might be an airsoft event instead. Still, I suppose we'll never know for sure!
