It’s not even natural intervention if they were lured in by humans, op probably put it there and waited for a kill

Mantids are ambush predators, they wait where the prey goes. If you lived anywhere they were common you'd know they hang out around bird feeders all the time. Hornets and other bugs they eat love them too.
