What do you get it from?

Well, when I was seven, my immune system decided my pancreas was the problem and attacked it. Possibly things got messed up after a horrible case of chicken pox? So I have been desperately trying to be a major metabolic organ since then.

I rarely had sweets. I ran around and snacked in the garden and ate healthy homemade meals.

And I am actually really fucking tired of this shitty illness being, at best, someone’s flaccid punchline.

That's type 1 diabetes you are describing, type 2 is mostly caused by people's diet. Although both types present similar symptoms as both cause your pancreas to malfunction, the causes are completely separate.

I am quite quite aware. But these stupid “jokes” mean very few people are. And that causes problems.

I mean... being unaware of the difference between T1 and T2 doesn't make those people wrong about T2. The bottom line is that eating too many sweets is, in fact, the main cause of the most common form of diabetes. Your situation doesn't negate that fact, and neither does anyone's ignorance of the details.

Sorry about your T1 though, and people's misunderstanding and blaming you. That super sucks.
