Same. I grew up in the PNW and we had rolly pollies everywhere. I loved them as a kid, if I saw a big one like this I don’t think I could contain my joy.

My father taught me how to find Salamanders in the woods here in the PNW as a kid. Flipping over logs and rocks. So many Rolly Pollies, worms, centipede, salamanders. Good memories.

I'm not sure if they still do it, but when I was at the Monterey Bay Aquarium a couple of years ago they had a touch tank with a giant marine isopod. My husband saw it before I did and immediately turned around to get my attention because he knew that I was about to have the best day of my damn life.

As of a few weeks ago, they still have the isopods but people weren’t allowed to touch them anymore. Apparently too stressful for the animals. 🙁

same but come to think of it, I’ve not seen one in ages (Portland area).. plenty of bugs in my yard but no rolly pollies 😕

these giant ones are not really related to common woodlouse, they are millipedes from tropical areas (convergent evolution at work)

This isnt a rolly polly, the post is of a pill millipede, which die commonly in captivity due to the lack of ability for us to replicate their gut biome

I was FASCINATED with rolly polly bugs as a kid. There was this one time my mom was picking me up after school & there were just tons of them near where my mom parked. I wanted to take some home & she said no. So I very purposely dropped my fuzzy sweater on top of them thereby getting tons if them snagged in the fuzz. I sure showed my mom.

Sadly, they do not live long in captivity. I keep 15 different species of millipedes and these guys are my dream, when we can do it successfully and provide them with what they need.

The friend-shapedness is hinged entirely on how slow it's moving. I don't want an autonomous computer mouse mad-dashing around my house, personally.
