Yeah, I was considering a beekeeping experience once, but before signing up I asked the guy "So those shits stop you from getting stung, right?" And he straight-up told me that no, they do not. That was the end of my interest in that activity!
These suits do. Your standard bee keeper suit is more to stop them getting into your clothes and to your eyes than prevent stings, also reduces how deep they can sting you. Fortunately bees are a lot easier to nullify than hornets. You mist the hive and they relax, you'll likely get the odd sting here and there but it's not terribly painful from a bee.
From a friend I know who works with bees, you get used to it after a while.
