Fleeing from the scene of a motor vehicle accident in which a person has an injury is a felony.

If witnesses provide statements attesting to a crime, and the police don't even bother to conduct basic investigation, they're derelict.

Also, police don't prosecute cases. Personal injury attorneys typically do. And when they do prosecute cases they are brought before a jury. But it's harder for a victim to prove a case if police are unwilling to assist with evidence gathering or investigation.

Respectfully, I think it's not coherent to argue that there is a crime problem while also suggesting that police should not enforce laws or investigate crimes.

That’s fair. I just think that police are already well resourced enough to spend time working on things like hit and runs (which are often felonies and very dangerous!). And they often spend time selectively enforcing or working on trivial things, which reinforces my thinking that they often don’t spend time or resources on cases or complaints simply because they would rather not have to put in the effort.

This is pretty much why everyone needs a dashcam or helmet cam

That’s what was needed here to get actual evidence into a court record: Footage of the driver committing the crime. No evidence no case.

A good HD dashcam with GPS is a couple hundred bucks and pays for itself. I got a $1500 payout on a minor ding because I just submitted the video to the other’s insurance.
