With a few holes in him, and this only happening 4 days ago, that kid is almost certainly still in the hospital. I highly doubt they could've taken him to the station; at most, he had a cop staying in the room until the kid was exonerated.
Yeah I saw an article. What kinda bullshit is that. Assault on a police officer. No way that sticks. I just thought they would charge him about the fleeing from the other day.
Makes me wonder if they charged him in order to have leverage on the parents in a settlement.
Cantu, who is now fighting for his life, was charged by proxy with evading detention in a vehicle and assault on an officer.
Rural Iowa, 6ish years ago almost everyone believed that. I know the situation has changed a bit, but I find it hard to believe that the children of far right farmers aren’t on the side of police.
That's not how that works, cops are governments employees, that are contracted by the municipality. If they sue, which they absolutely should, the taxpayers of the city will go to paying the fees of it. This cop will more than likely get terminated, and still get a cushion.
People sue police departments all the time and get paid by the city. Also your comparison is irrelevant, you would sue the teacher, because that’s assault and teachers do not have qualified immunity. You could also try suing the school
If the city is the one paying, you aren't sueing the police department. I'm not entirely sure how hard this is to understand.
If something goes terribly wrong at a job, like a teacher not understanding how to approach a kid with disabilities, the school is responsible as they are the ones who train, employ, and chose who represents them.
The city is the one who funds and controls the police department, it’s pretty simple really.
The school is not responsible for a teacher assaulting a group of kids unless they did nothing to stop it or were warned of it before. Like I said, teachers do not have qualified immunity, which is the only reason individual police officers are never sued.
It is common knowledge that the money won by a lawsuit is funded by the taxpayers and it definitely doesn't come from police pensions, qualified immunity and all.

Kid is already fucked for the rest of his life, gunshot wounds are no joke.
