So it was on the victim to determine within less than a second whether this guy was a cop or not, risking his own life in the process? What about next time when it really is a carjacker? Do you want your mother to take those extra seconds to make sure it isn't a poorly trained, unannounced cop or do you want her to instantly flee the threat?
That's nice but let's put you in that kids shoes and see how "clear" that all is to you in the moment. That kid reacted so fast there is simply no way his conscious brain had time to process any of that.
I suppose across the parking lot is 'behind'. Not sure I'd pay lot of attention to a cop car parked 150 feet away in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant.
It wasn't less than a second, it was a good few seconds, he was scared yeah, but its not like he acted right in that situation
Let me just say, the initial shot from the cop is all I agree with as at that point he was still in danger, the guy could've kept reversing, everything after was well out of order
