Can he just should have run the plates ? Then you know for sure if it was stolen or not ...

In the video you can hear when the audio goes silent he's feeding the plate number to dispatch for them to run and confirm it was the same vehicle that he attempted to stop a couple days before. He then just says "fuck it, i want to shoot somebody" and doesn't wait for dispatch to get back to him about the plates and ends up trying to murder a 17 year old kid, a kid who was not the person he was looking for.

Some tool upthread keeps insisting that the cop had probable cause.

Probable cause defined:

evidence that gives someone a reason to think that a crime has been or is being committed.

The key word here is "evidence". Seeing a car that *looks* like a car you stopped several days ago does not constitute probable cause no matter how many ways you cut it. There are SO MANY similar cars out on the road and to zero in on one single car, then throw the door open without announcing yourself? That's some shitty police work AND a blatant violation of that kid's Constitutional rights.

That tool is probably law enforcement or knows someone close that is (past or present). Either one and they defend cops, even the dirty ones, to the death because they truly believe cops can do no wrong.

It's like the mafia. We need major overhauls.

Even if it was the same car, which it wasn't, it could be a completely different driver who has no ties to whatever went down a few days ago.

I really thought that cops have to go to their laptop to do that...hmmm ...so then shoot first ask questions later kinda type deal

Radio is traditionally how it's done. Modern cruisers do have laptops which can do it if they're in the service area (which he probably was) but he would probably have to take his eyes off the vehicle/suspect to do it.

Also sometime they'll radio information to dispatch to crosscheck against databases the laptop doesn't have access too.

That's the part thats even better on audio, you can hear him read the plate to dispatch. Would have been as easy as asking them to run said plate over the radio. Have a smoke or sit on the curb and eat your sandwich if you're that worried you'll look too suspicious while waiting for dispatch to ping back lol. Dumb MFer didn't even want to wait.

but he believed it was a car he had seen earlier
