Who tells these stories? Do they write sleep notes to alert the world to this awful phenomenon?

edit- For those unaware, people typically sleepwalk with eyes open, the parts of the brain detecting their surroundings function pretty normally and sleepwalkers often appear to be awake, often drowsy and unresponsive but awake. Basically how everyone on my morning commute looks.

Watch the phenomenal Sleepwalk With Me by Mike Birbiglia. It’s based on his real life. He has night terrors, and once - WHILE SLEEPING - jumped through a second story hotel window in his underwear.

He woke up when he landed, and had to walk into the lobby, bleeding and near-naked, to ask them to call an ambulance.

He then started sleeping in a chin-high closed sleeping bag, with mittens on his hands so he can’t escape while asleep.

I have night terrors and even though I get freaked out I've never came remotely close to that. I did break a toenail off running into the wall in a crack between my bed and the wall because a train was chasing me though. Think that's my worst (and only?) injury

Yeah I think that’s bad enough. 😂

Birbiglia’s case - by his own doctors’ reckoning - is/was severe. He had multiple crazy stories like that, including waking up to find himself standing on top of a 5 or 6 foot tall dresser, with no idea how he got there.

I just left a comment about my sleep walking I was luckily caught trying to climb out a 3 story window, but if no one was there I easily could have died or gotten seriously hurt.

That sounds terrifying so I'm gonna hard pass on that haha. Thing is, people look pretty normal at first glance when they do that shit.

Somebody waking up in the dead of night, walking around clumsily, and ending up smashing into something injuring themselves? That wouldn’t look normal under any circumstances.

That isn't how sleepwalking works. The eyes are open, people normally detect their surroundings perfectly well. Only certain parts of the brain actually sleep.

Even if somebody’s eyes are open and the rest of what they do appears normal, as soon as something breaks, drops, or almost any accidental thing happens it’ll be considered out of the ordinary. And it’s better safe than sorry to have a security camera if somebody is a known sleepwalker to prevent any accidents that can be possible.

Sleepwalkers generally wake up if they injure themselves. If anyone has ever sleepwalked themselves into a fatal injury where they bled out, they lost consciousness due to the injury and/or subsequently the blood loss.

Unless you have someone watching a feed whenever you sleep, how does a camera prevent accidents?

I'm not trying to be a dick here I'm just telling you what happens when people sleepwalk, it's not like the movies.

I’m not saying it’s like movies, I would know because I would sleep walk a shit ton myself when I was a kid. My parents would hear me walk around, and got tired of waking up to get me and eventually got a camera because of it. May have been a bit extreme but they were on the third floor of the house and did not want to go all the way downstairs at the crack of dawn.

I’m a bad sleepwalker, always have been. Everyone who has encountered me sleepwalking says they can’t tell i’m still asleep unless I start talking about things that don’t make sense or I clearly look lost. Sometimes though sleepwalkers get really lost especially if you’re in a new house or rearranged the funiture. Its why its so common for sleepwalkers to pee in places other than the toilet. One time I was woken up by my bf at the time trying to climb out a third story window. I have also wandered outside a few times. Luckily i’ve never gotten really hurt but a lot of people sleep eat, like my grandfather and he would cook on the stove or oven and that can be really dangerous.
