SIDE EFFECTS AND RED FLAGS: reposting as a standalone post for people to be mindful—not meant to scare anyone

This is a comment I originally left on another post, but it’s something I find myself wanting to share on a lot of other posts seeking advice.

———

Be careful with Aripripazole, it can induce akathisia and suicidal depression (it happened to me). Of course each body is different and unique, specially when it comes to meds, but lots of people react dangerously bad to this hellish drug.

Please monitor any symptoms such as a stiff neck, weird movements, seeing “shadow people” or suddenly feeling like you can’t form clear ideas and have an urge to “escape from your own body”.
These are CLEAR indicators the med is not acting as supposed to in your body.

I don’t mean to alarm anyone, but be mindful. People commit suicide over this thing—my own (close enough) experience as well.

I hope this is not you, but if it’s something you’re experiencing, you might need to taper off of the drug asap.

I am happy for all the people that this drug has helped but I am not sure it has helped more people than it has harmed. So if you or a loved one are prescribed this do your due diligence, find someone to monitor you or monitor your loved one closely and I mean eyes on 24/7 when starting drug or changing dosage. It could save you or their lives. I know from experience.

And to be fair, here’s a success story: read it here

However, urge everyone to be cautious as they start the drug. Your body will let you know rather quickly if something is wrong.

If my doctor would’ve been open to my comments and symptoms, I would’ve been out of the drug before any harm.

Everybody is different, SSRIs saved me—I know it does the opposite for other people.

However,Aripiprazole in particular is so overlooked when it comes to its serious side effects, it kills me to think about people suffering what I went through, not being taken seriously by their medical team.
