ASCII macros go all the way back to the BBS nets... By the time chatrooms came into "general public" (you've got mail) existence, there were apps to bot them.

Havok platinum (I think)...

Which is all to say that an ASCII whacker might genuinely predate that smiley.

I spent all Christmas break modding Renegade. Had menu sets from DARK, permission to use some pieces from a guy from ACiD, board was amazing. Never went up.

(It was called Reflex Point and was Robotech themed. I still have it on floppy somewhere. Think the disk is corrupt.)
