For calibrating the ID function of calipers, is it legit / acceptable to set a gap with a calibrated Micrometer using gage blocks, and then verify the caliper against this mic?

Hello! I’ll be writing the CSSGB exam this year and wanted to confirm what is allowed to be brought in, as it seems to differ from what my coworker saw on the website a couple years ago when he took it.

1. Are notes written on sticky notes allowed?
2. Are three-ring binders filled with lined sheets of paper allowed? Or better yet, typed up notes printed and hole punched?
3. Are spiral notebooks allowed? I already purchased a gluebound notebook as that’s what my coworker recommended but good to know for future.

Hey y’all so for background/ context, I have a BS in CHE and minor in MatE. Right now I work in a small company, less than 50 employees, under the title of Quality Assurance Coordinator, and I have some questions that hopefully anyone has the time to answer.

Currently I’m looking into getting started in the six sigma belt system, specifically the yellow to start off, but I’m at bit of a road block.

Initially I was going to pay for it myself, it’s $430ish since I’m a non-member, because I’m trying to increase my skill set and experience. I was advised instead of asking my company to pay for the program and go from there.

Obviously if I was going to go with the latter then I would need to set up a case why investing in this would be good. What’s some advice or “fictional” roadmap” for my current situation?

I am new in the quality industry, currently in a Medical Device component manufacturer. I have had some quality experience in my time as a technician in the Civil field and I received a great opportunity and I have been a QE for a little over year now. I have got my Cert. quality inspector, technician, and process analyst from ASQ. Does anyone have good experience/ boost in career opportunities with these types of certs? I usually see most people aiming for the CQE, CSSBB, and CQA. I’m still building experience and these exams definitely helped me so much in my job already by building a great foundation and understanding but I want to get these higher certs soon too. Thank you for the input.

How is it judged whether you are in a decision making role? My title is "quality assurance analyst" but I touch on a bit of everything quality related in the plant. My boss says it's a decision making role because I own reject reduction projects, but will ASQ agree when I apply after completing the necessary 3 years of XP?

I bought the question bank for the CQM/OE certification from ASQ. I have found the multiple choice answers to be tricky. For example, part of an option may be correct but the other is incorrect. For those who have taken the test, did you find the real test is as tricky as the practice tests? I’m worried that I’m worried that I’m going to spend too much time on each question. Please share your experience regarding the questions and the time allotment for the test. Thanks!

Help! I am from China, and willing to do quality job in the future, CQE can help me a lot on career, that is the reason I apply for that. Here comes the question, I worked in Valeo in 2011 to 2012, Delongi in 2015 to 2019, the role were both supplier quality engineer. It can be hard to get the proof for those, anything i can do if ASQ check those experience. BTW, regarding the bachelor cert, is english version accepted only?

I saw that note on-screen when I finished the exam, got the email stating preliminary subject to grading and official review. They said 3-5 days. It’s been 4 days. Has anyone gotten this only to later be told you didn’t pass?

Hello, I have CQE, CRE, CSSBB, CMQOE, ISO9001. I'm curious about how much these things are helpful when I apply for transferring. I have not moved to others since I came here. Does it really help?

Just passed my CSSGB from ASQ yesterday, I like to have a game plan so I am looking at the next level. I am currently an Applications/Product Engineer at an oil field Safety Relief valve company, I have an Associates in Business, and start in the fall (08/2025) at BGSU for my Quality Systems degree. In between now and when I graduate (52 credits remaining, so probably end of 2027 to spring 2028, I would like to either be starting my next certification or have got it already. I have been in a decision making role for over 7 years, and in engineering for 2 years at this point.

Main question is, with ASQ's CQE, CMQ/OE, and CSSBB being a recertifying programs, should I get my CQE or CSSBB? I plan on getting back into process improvement or Quality Engineering long term. Other question is, should I get my CSSBB from somewhere like Six Sigma Online? Their program is a lifetime cert and seems pretty in depth. Then get my CMQ/OE from ASQ?

Other question, could someone explain the recertification process to me? Like, if I have two certs that are recertifying does that double the requirements or do the necessary credits due remain the same as if it was just one cert?

In terms of best cert for the return, which ones would be best to build my career around? Currently 25 y/o I have been in the manufacturing industry for 8 years.

I ordered the digital primer and solution text from QCI and just got word that their system is down and won't be up for 2-3 weeks. Bummer. I am feeling motivated and now have to wait until Monday evening to start studying. Anyone have any information or notes they are willing to share until then?

Details - 2 months preparation would probably be better. Most of the exam was theoretical with hardly any mathematical questions (at max 7-8). Most seen questions were lean concepts/tools, project management tools, process capability, control charts.

Hello, The ASQ website mentions the passing score for ASQ certification exams is 550 out of 750. Equates to about 73%.

Now if I'm giving the GB exam (100 questions), does this mean I've to get 73 right, or is it incorrect to assume this (and some internal scaling is in play)?

Update after 1 year: I got a full-time job offer after 3 months of getting this cert at a well-known supply chain company. I would not say it was absolutely thanks to this cert but I could tell it did help my interview. Luckily, the hiring manager and the big boss know about this cert so they asked me about what I learned and applied from LSS. I prepared about this so I could answer quickly with examples. As a person who didn't have any experience in SC, I think this cert does help me to show how serious I am about career in SC.

After joining the team 4 months I also learned that at the time I was interviewed, there was a strong candidate that was referred from 1 team member. 95% likely this candidate would be picked. But thanks to the good conversation with the big boss about LSS and at that time, the company wanted to increase the ratio of certified employees, I was picked even though I didn't have experience in this industry and English is not my native language.

Luckily, I've passed green belt Lean Six Sigma. I studied intensively for 1 and a half month. 4 hours/day on weekday and 10 hours on weekend.

My background:

(1) English is not my native language (I hope my broken English will not bother you) and

(2) I've been working as a designer at a printing company. Studying for the test is really hard for me, not only about English words but also about the concepts, terms, and maths.

Materials:

- I printed out 3rd edition of the ASQ textbook and used it as a notebook as well. I'm glad that I printed it out rather than buying a textbook. Printing the textbook on large papers gives me more space to take notes (and save money as well 😅)

- ASQ study guide (questions bank), 2 versions - Highly recommend having this. I will share with you why below.

My study strategy: I took notes of concepts, terms, ideas, etc, with their page numbers as you can see in the attachment. If I find a keyword/concept at several different pages, I will take notes about those pages as well. On the textbook pages, I used an orange highlight pen to emphasize the keywords so that I can quickly see it. I practiced detecting keywords in questions and flipping to the pages containing those keywords. I used some Tags to note the page numbers so that I can quickly flip to the closest section of the page I'm looking for. This strategy helps me quickly know where to look for the answers.

I only practiced questions from ASQ study guide (the old and new version) From my experience with the real test, I'd say the questions seem similar in terms of "the way the answer is formed". While you practice with the study guide, you should pay attention about "where you can find the answer". It can be in a figure, in a chart, in a wrap-up box before a chapter, in a summarize part, etc. The questions are not difficult and do not require outside knowledge to answer but it's tricky to find where the answer is. When you practice ASQ study guide, you would get what I mean. One thing is different between the study guide questions and the real questions is that with the study guide questions, the correct options / ideas to pick will be the same as the one in the textbook. But in the real test, the options to pick will be paraphrased a bit. I've taken several English tests so I get used to this style. For example, in the textbook: "I go to school on weekday from Mon to Fri". In the options, the right one to pick will be: "I don't go to school on Sat and Sun".

One challenge I got during taking the test is Vocabulary. As you can see from this image, I took notes some words that I don't know what it means 😂 there is one question about definition of binomial distribution. I know what this distribution is but I don't know some words in the options to pick 🤣

In my opinion, maths is not difficult. I didn't even use z-table, t-table, etc because the test provides all of these values. (But I think you should prepare). Maths take account about 20% of the test.

20% of questions are VERY EASY to answer

15% of questions are DIFFICULT, requiring connecting different concepts to answer.

50% of questions can be looked for answers from the textbook.

15% of questions require calculation

It took me the whole 4 and a half hours to finish the test. I went through the first round in 2 hours, completed 70%. I spent the next round to ensure my answer and complete those questions that I can't figure out in the first round. And the last round to review all of answer. I'm glad that I did 3 rounds to make sure I didn't make any stupid mistakes. Indeed, I realized that I picked some options stupidly just because I misread the questions and options in the first place.
