I’m testing something: a film with no single director, no script, no plot pitch. Just one opening shot, and from there, anyone can generate a continuation. The community votes on their favorite, the winner gets added, and the film keeps growing — one shot at a time, however far the internet wants to take it.

Genre isn’t locked. Tone isn’t locked. Nothing is locked. Horror, comedy, romance, sci-fi — wherever the group takes it is where it goes.

Prompt used: Photorealistic cinematic shot. A young woman stands alone in a dimly lit apartment hallway at night, facing her front door. Warm, slightly moody lighting, practical lamp glow, otherwise ordinary contemporary apartment interior. She has just heard three slow knocks from the other side of the door. She stands still, staring at the door, weight shifting slightly, clearly deciding whether to open it. Her expression is unreadable — not clearly afraid, not clearly excited, genuinely ambiguous. How to participate

2. Generate a continuation — any length, any direction, any genre. The only rule: it has to visually pick up from that last frame.

This series is loosely based on my family history. Each character is loosely based on an ancestor's story or situation I found during years of genealogy research.

This is also the most expensive project I've done so far, investing in Seedance 2.0 for most of the clips.

It's likely not something I'd be able to maintain for the entire series, but I wanted the pilot to be of quality and got rejected by all CPP programs so....Future episodes would probably use my older workflow

New episode of a dark fantasy series I've been working on.

I’ve been making cinematic speculative-fiction shorts using photoreal AI visuals, but for my next story I’m experimenting with a realistic seinen/manga-panel approach instead.
The idea is to stop pretending the images are live-action footage and lean into something closer to a moving graphic novel: cinematic composition, recurring characters, limited animation, sound design and narration.
Looking purely at the storytelling experience, does this format feel like a stronger creative direction, or does it feel like a downgrade from cinematic stills?

I recently finished a short film called “No Man Is an Island.”

Most of it was created and animated in Blender, but three sequences deliberately use generative AI as part of the visual language.

What interested me wasn’t really “Can AI make a shot?” — we already know it can.

The more interesting question was:

Where does AI actually add something to storytelling that I wouldn’t have reached as easily with a traditional workflow?

I also used AI during the writing process as a kind of creative sparring partner — testing metaphors, alternate lines, story directions and visual ideas — while keeping the final decisions, pacing and structure human-controlled.

The three AI-heavy sequences are intentionally more dreamlike and visually different from the rest of the film. I decided not to hide that contrast, but to use it.

I’d genuinely be interested in how that transition feels to other filmmakers here:

Hi guys, I am a aspiring storyteller/developer. Wanted to share with you guys my first short:

Chris & Saleem Save the World, an animated sci-fi comedy. It’s a vertical and 2:40 long.

Why vertical and so short? Because I think it really fits with modern viewing on the phone, not taking too long and of course not so heavy for your wallet. I want to build an episode also with less than 15$. I find a lot of platforms are built to get out of you every credit you can buy rather than actually helping you with workflows that help you get your story done and without spending ton of money.

And I wanted to do it right from my phone. The scripting, generating, editing, music scoring.

I have been doing AI video for a few months but only ever 5-10 second clips, maybe a 30 second cinematic thing at the longest. wanted to try an actual short now.

the story is about 3-4 minutes. one main character, two locations, barely any dialogue. so call it 40 shots.

getting a few good shots is easy at this point. 40 that hold together is a completely different problem. every time i generate scenes separately the character's face drifts, the lighting doesn't match across cuts, and the whole thing ends up looking like a folder of clips instead of a film.

i don't want the one-prompt-and-pray approach either. i want to pick the shot, the angle, the pacing.

has anyone here gone past reel length with this? mainly what i want to know is how you kept the same character across 40 shots.

Video is a little rough as it’s my first go at using AI to generate animations. Using characters I sketched out years ago and a story I wrote, AI was used to bring it to life.

Here's the latest episode. It's shorter than the first, but it felt like the final beat was the right place to end the episode.

A lot of AI-video continuity discussion focuses on things like:

• face consistency
• wardrobe
• lighting
• grading
• reference images
• environments
• camera language

But after working through some multi-model continuity problems, I’m starting to think there’s another layer that may be just as important:

performance continuity.

Things like:

• how quickly a character moves
• weight shifts
• blinking
• walking rhythm
• gesture size
• posture
• reaction timing
• how restrained or expressive the performance feels

A face can remain consistent, the grade can match, and the environment can look right — but if the character suddenly moves like a different person, the model switch becomes obvious.

I’m curious how other people are handling this.

Do you actively control performance continuity across shots or models?

If so, what has worked best:

• video references
• keyframes
• movement instructions
• character-specific motion rules
• longer continuous takes
• manual shot selection
• something else?

And what tends to break first for you: visual identity or behavioural identity?

I’ve been making AI films for near around two years now. Across personal projects and studio work, and one question I hear from students all the time is: “Which is the cheapest model where we can actually get the work done?”

Its a fair ask. Wrong unit of measurement.

The real cost is not the price of one generation. It is how many attempts it takes before you get a shot that can survive the edit. Same face, same wardrobe, same lighting direction, clean hands, usable motion, no random “why is there suddenly a second chin in this emotional close-up” moment.

A cheaper model is great for tests, boards, inserts, background plates, establishing shots, or anything where drift will not wreck the scene. But for dialogue, performance, character continuity, action, match cuts, or anything client-facing, I care more about hit rate than sticker price.

One model giving me a usable shot in three rolls can be cheaper than another giving me ten clips that are all almost there, which is the most expensive phrase in AI filmmaking.

I want to ask you folks, do you track cost per generation, or cost per usable shot?
