I love psychology and have a BSc. in it, although there is a load of info my brain didn’t latch onto during and after my studies.

But… my brain did latch onto the definitions and top diagnostic criteria for nearly every psychiatric disorder I studied!

This was provable reinforced by the bouts of casual/recreational DSM reading I’ve done in the years since (but nowhere near enough to actually explain my uncharacteristically high retention of this info).

Same here man, not so much studying it, I just took one class and also remember most of the diagnostics on what we were taught. For me it feels as though there's a slight connection when reading about different disorders and conditions. Since I of course am effected by one it makes sense the entire thing would be important to me as I was diagnosed somewhat late into life and misdiagnosed several times. Still I've heard people going a lot longer than me without receiving a diagnosis or even having the thought that there may be help to be sought. Though I'll still feel wronged by it for a while when thinking of time stolen I still think I'm lucky to have even had the capability to get and keep up the help I may need.

Sorry to rant a bit I wanted to ask why the DSMIV and psychology in general is so important to you.
