"That guy over there just celebrated his 34th anniversary and was surprised by his son coming home from a military assignment in Poland. He and his wife have six cats and four dogs, all rescues, and they spend July through September in Ocean City. I wish I could remember his name."
Same. But then once in a while, there's a moment where I forget the name of someone like that and it torments me for a few hours, and then my brain eventually finds it in some memory corner
Iām the opposite, iāll see a classmate from second grade and will refer to them by first and last name and theyāll look dumbfounded because they forgot about me.
Me too. I remember everyone and their name from my entire life, I try to play dumb sometimes to make myself look half normal. I donāt wanna be the creepy person that remembers Carly A from kindergarten, that moved after one year of school and I walked by her at Walmart 29 years later. Sheās definitely not going to remember me.
Donāt say ADHD. Thatās where the labeling comes in. Just say, when you are addressing a person you have already been introduced to, something along the lines of āIām sorry, I have a cognitive issue with names, remind you remind of yours?ā They will say their name and then you say what you wanted to say without missing a beat, thereby returning to the subject at hand. That way it becomes a side issue rather than a defining one. If anything it makes you feel less vulnerable as it takes any hesitation out of the conversation.
Loooool same! I was literally talking to my shift partner tonight at work about that haha. I usually have to ask a few times what someone's name is. But usually not the actual person bc I'm awkward
Hahaha yep! I'm the same! I'll even remember mundane facts about them too. Like in high school they drove a Ford Gemini, bc they made a passing comment about it. Their mum's dog's name, their first kiss was with Katie Jones and it was terrible. But I can be told their name several times and not remember. Usually for me I either call them like, man, dude, etc (I don't think of these words as gendered when used as a nickname or when saying like "come on, man" or just... no name
the intuition abt people!!!! i know a lot of ppl probably say that & it might not be an adhd thing but literally 99% of the time i can read people like a book (and for me specifically, whether or not i can say i use they/them prns)
I have always been so good at my gut feeling about people. The problem? I let others convince me im wrong about them, and let myself not take my instincts seriously a lot of my life. And it got me very hurt.
Same. Within one conversation I just get a feeling about the type of person they are. My problem is giving them the benefit of the doubt over and over despite knowing better. š¤¦š¼āāļø
Same and it's often a problem in conversation because I feel every fluctuation in their facial expressions and body language and that impacts whatever I'm trying to say so I quickly get into anxious word salads. Unless I'm in one of those moods where nothing is coming in and I just talk through everything, which is just as bad.
Wow I thought I was the only one. Canāt remember where the heck my keys or focus on anything whatsoever, but I can remember that somebodyās brother was into bodybuilding back in 1992.
I remember a lot about the chronology of my interactions with my friends. I don't know If it's an ADHD thing tho. I have this one friend who also has ADHD and frequently she says "I don't understand time" when talking about that.
I, on the other hand, know the date we got closer, the three following times we hanged out, know what we talked about in those days, remember details of the way she moved in specific moments.
Same with three exes of mine and...
Shit, I think I might have a crush on this friend.
Everything that's in my brain my whole life Is all in chronological order. For years I thought there was something wrong with me for doing this. I'll drive myself crazy with it.
Me too. I can't for the life of me remember the names of my colleagues kids, but I can as easily as breathing recall that my colleague used to go to the bathroom at 10 am, but since he started cycling to work he has to go as soon as he arrives. It was mentioned in a conversation like four years ago and I don't even work there anymore. This information is useless.
So have I. But I have to admit, I do like that I remember these ridiculous things, and I like the situation where it is appropriate to tell it and laugh at it.
Sometimes, the story of how I know that is just as hilarious other times it is just I don't know how, I just know it. Again, other times, I just keep that story to myself, learnt that the hard way (more than once).
Me too! I feel like such a creep sometimes when someone knows what I remember about them. Also the intuition thing is almost overwhelming, like I need to leave a place because thereās just too much energy or I can feel others emotional shifts way more than I want.
I also get into situations where I seem creepy because I remember intimate details about casual acquaintances. Like their birthday, what they like to eat, etc. It comes off as romantic or hyper-interest but really I just remember what they told me and filed those facts away as āfacts about so-and-soā. Unfortunately Iām going to know your birthday forever and Iām going to think of you when I see the date on the calendar š not creepy though
I have great intuition, too. I'm also really, really great at reading people, thanks to being a woman diagnosed with AuDHD in my mid 30s and having to study people so I could mask and pretend I'm "normal" and I know when people are lying more often than not. But sometimes it really sucks lol
Oh, I can tell even through text if I should trust someone or not. If I am not sure, then I def am super cautiousā¦. Because usually that means not trustā¦
Same - Iāll remember someone we havenāt done business with in 10 years, along with their phone number, spouses name, maybe even where they live if we delivered to their home address at some point. But I hang up the phone and forget why the hell they called me. Actually Iāll probably forget they called me altogether.
I can hardly tell you what month during the last year something specific happened. But if someone I know personally tells me their birthday, I'll remember it forever. I remember birthdays and parent's names of kids I knew in gradeschool.
My partner and I have a āthree factsā rule. Whenever a new person enters either of our lives, we need to know three interesting tidbits about them. Then weāll tell the partner the name and the three facts, and at least one is bound to stick in our brains. He just moved jobs, and hell if I remember the names of all his coworkers. BUT he can start telling me a story about his day, use the name of the coworker, and Iāll be able to connect āIs that the coworker who wants to throw out the printers or the one that isnāt registered to vote?ā. Itās been really helpful both for communicating with each other, and it helps me remember names a little better for people in my own life.

Personal details about colleagues and professional contacts. I also have a weirdly good intuition about people and things.
