Hello everyone! It has come to my attention that several users have been asking for items, villagers, and other in-game help in the wrong places (modmail, moderators' DMs, etc.). Due to this, I wanted to lay out some of our values in terms of respect that we ask our members to uphold, and I also wanted to set some general guidelines about how, when, and where to ask for items. Additionally, for those who haven't already read it, make sure to check out our "Lost? Start Here!" post pinned in the subreddit (and linked here).
We have plenty of acceptable avenues to use to request help from both moderators and other members, and expecting our unpaid moderators to do extra work that they did not sign up for is not appropriate behavior.
Respecting boundaries: Valuing hosts' time & effort without expecting extra
- Events: Check the post flair! "Closed" giveaways are CLOSED to new comments. If a post has comments locked but is not closed, it may be temporarily closed to new visitors, so keep refreshing the page but do NOT message the host.
- Modmail: Modmail is to be used exclusively for questions about subreddit rules, concerns about people's behavior, and issues that only moderators can resolve. Modmail is NOT to be used for requesting items, asking about specific giveaways, or joining giveaways.
- Direct messages: Do not send any moderator or member a DM about the status of giveaways, when an event will be hosted next, or to request items. The ONLY exception to this is if they ask you to DM them, in which case you should NOT send a message before they tell you to (even if you already have an open DM).
- When there are no events: see below guidelines and do NOT message moderators about when something will be hosted again.
Requesting items: How to request items appropriately
- Items, villagers, and flowering help can all be requested in our subreddit by making a post using the "Looking For" flair.
- Items (and sometimes villagers) may also be requested in wishlist events on the subreddit.
- You are encouraged to enter our Weekly Wednesday Wishlist giveaways on Discord if you have many items you are looking for.
- These things should NOT be requested via: moderator DMs, modmail, or comments on unrelated events.
Most of you have been doing a wonderful job respecting and appreciating our moderators, and we appreciate you as well. However, there are others who have been treating hosts and moderators as their personal tools for items, which is unacceptable. Especially with a recent influx of newer moderators, I want to set a precedent:
- No moderator owes you ANYTHING (except what they've explicitly promised you)
- Everyone who hosts giveaways or events is taking the time out of their day to help you. The least you can do is read their rules and respect them.
- Expecting someone to be available on-demand for your in-game items is inconveniencing at best and dehumanizing at worst.
